That blue stuff is actually referred to Mystic Energy which is something that the Dic dub added to censor the blood. They even came up with lore which is basically, if you lose too much Mystic Energy, you can't be a Saint anymore. It was also common practice for English Dubs(at the time) to replace the music. One of the reasons is that Dubbing Companies get a master tapes that have both the bgm and voices sync together. So it's easier to just mute the audio and make their own recording. Another reason is because there's this assumption that the soundtrack won't appeal to Americans.

@@edgarcervantes1287 Yes there's two. The first uncensor dub is the ADV dub. It was made around the same time as this dub. It's hard to find full episodes and they didn't complete the entire series but there's clips on KZbin. The other is the Sentai Filmworks dub also known as the Netflix redub. You can still find full episodes on Netflix and the entire 80s series is dub(although they haven't dub the movies as of yet). I also uploaded a couple of clips if you want to see the general quality of the dub.

Being blind didn't weaken Shiryu too much, his quality of life became shit, but he was still perfectly capable to fight. Probably because he's the one who received the best training among the 5 protagonists.

Make yourself a favor and watch the original scene in Japanese... one of the greatest scenes of all time in any shonen anime. By the way, besides the lack of blood they also removed the impressive OST. They destroyed Saint Seiya in the USA

You realize that the DIC dub of Saint Seiya ruined its popularity in the US. Sailor Moon survived but Saint Seiya suffered a massive blow because of the fucking dicks at DIC thinking this was fine. If only Funimation got Saint Seiya instead of DIC and ADV, Saint Seiya would probably have performed better in the US.

This English dub is disgusting they ruined this legendary anime. DIC Entertainment is garbage company they dubbed 30 episodes of Saint Seiya classic in English but they censored a lot of brutal fight scenes and changed the story. They ruined this anime's reputation in front of English speaking countries. Not only they ruined with the horrible dub... THEY REMOVED THE ORIGINAL MUSIC!!! Saint Seiya has the greatest music ever written for any anime (this is a fact, not an opinion) and they thought it would be a good idea to remove those masterpieces and replace them for generic synth chords. Just in this scene Sad Brothers should be playing, one of the greatest songs ever written for any form of entertainment. They destroyed Saint Seiya

DiC actually dubbed 40 episodes (but only 32 aired in America and only 28 were released on video and DVD here), and it's a fitting slap to the face that DiC's version ended right before the Twelve Temples arc, aka *the best part of and most iconic arc of the Saint Seiya franchise.*
