It's up there for breaking them through to the mainstream, corporate radio and also giving them financial independence - not to mention me as a 10 year old kid, unaware that 10 or so years later I'd hear their debut and You're Living All Over Me from the mid and later-80s, respectively and be _blown away_ by how amazing both (and especially the latter album is).

Idk man like I hate to be this person, but I loved this song in middle school but idk if the guitarist that did the ending solo was really apart of the band because I remember the solo in detail and I feel like they needed to practice the solo and also like idk if live is different but certain instruments loudness were overshadowing the rest of the song. I do appreciate it historically tho, like definitely

My wife still drags me to Dinosaur Jr. And J. Mascis concerts.. 2 years ago in Newtown in Sydney, I left the Men's toilet and there he was, purple shoes, Grey beard and all.. I ran into the crowd where my wife was watching the support act and I just reefed her from the front row barrier and ran her down towards the men's toilet. Her dream was to meet J Mascis and she was within arms reach of him. He was talking with some of the stage crew.. She could have hugged him, called out his name, tapped in on the shoulder or whatever, but she didn't.. She was just frozen in shock and missed the opportunity. I wish I'd done something to get his attention, but it was all so fast and then he vanished behind a curtain.. The show was awesome. It was just him and his guitar.

A friend and I saw J standing across the street from CBGB after he played one of the last shows there. He was holding two guitar cases, waiting for a ride I guess. J is not the gregarious, outgoing, conversationalist type, we came to find out.

Saw J playing an acoustic show at a place called the Met Cafe in Providence RI in the mid 90s. My buddy saw J in the bathroom and had the balls to ask him for an autograph. J happily obliged with a black sharpie "J" on my buddy's hand. Great memory.

One of the best ever. I saw Dinosaur jr on the Henry Rollins show and everyone is bald or grey. I can't believe how fast time goes by. It seems like yesterday to me. I turned 40 this year and my son wants to play guitar. I'm glad to be able to show the great music of this era to him. The 90's!

One day in the early 1990's I was driving along on the LA freeways doing my messenger job, and I realized that there was all this cool new music coming out and thought I should get into some of it, so I decided to go buy a cassette of something I heard on the radio that day. The song I heard that struck me was feel The Pain. I put Without A Sound in my car stereo and let it auto-reverse over and over again for weeks, and became a lifelong fan. Henry Rollins says that they don't have a bad album, and he's right. One of the striking things about this song that is so different from modern music is how the tempo changes, it definitely gives it a human feel, definitely not the way everything is locked to a grid and auto-tuned nowadays.

Yeah, this era is still great and still sounds exactly like Dinosaur Jr. to me. I think it's pretty clear at this point that J is THE creative force behind the band. He writes literally everything. Lou wrote the songs he does lead vocals on, so like, what, eight songs total over their entire career? Two from living all over me and two from each of the three most recent albums. Murph hasn't written anything afaik. Not trying to shit on murph and lou, but let's be real, they are pretty replaceable, lol.

It was Letterman. Back then he had a rule about bands, I can't remember how it worked but he wouldn't let whole bands on. When the Pixies played I think it was just Charles and Joey, Kim and the drummer were there but they weren't playing. I think. It's been a while. I think the drummer might have had a tamborine or something. That was from Trompe Le Monde, which came out in 91 or around then. It was a weird rule so I wonder if that's why there's no bassist here?

crisp bacon -This wasn't really ahead of its time. this is like '94. Now in '86 yeah. Especially considering the transition from Deep Wound to Dinosaur. Lou & J found something sweet. I'd say mostly influenced by 80s hardcore punk style and sound with chord progressions and meter of the Smith's, the Cure, etc. Post-Punk. Punk with a jangle. Hardcore Post-Punk?

This is actually the first song I learned on guitar. It’s surprisingly simple for the most part.

Mick Taylor... of the Rolling Stones, is one that many guitar players share, as an influence for playing the 6-String.

@@PZBrooklynhouse band guitarist are playing the rhythm parts, but without the capo so it sounds a little different. Near the end I’m pretty sure one of them is playing the lead part that you can hear on the record during the last chorus

One of the first alternative rock songs I heard. Who is on second guitar with the falsetto back up vox? That's not Lou Barlow, right?
