Its crazy how I was listening to some '94 music and my feed started popping up live on late night show performances and I realized that the super underrated bands all had huge hits that year. Meat Puppets-Backwater, Dinosaur Jr. do Feel the Pain, Sonic Youth Bull in the heather, and now this. I give huge props to the late night producers who had the musical knowledge or taste to showcase bands like these who influenced so many of the bands who did go mainstream/superstar. Mid 90s was the era of alternative. From '93-97 you couldn't miss with an alternative hit.

It's mostly just an age thing (I happened to be college-aged and had the disposable income of my student loan) but 1994 was the year I saw more bands and bought more records than any other. Although it was the year Cobain died, I still think of it as the best ever year for guitar-led music. So many great records came out in 1994.

@@chairmankaga101 They're a band's band. Listening to them fuck around is a reminder of your own band fucking around, except, like, better. Also, long sets are cool. Catalogs are cool. Fucking off on blow dried Jay Leno's show to his douchey uncomprehending audience is cool. Pretty much every other band ever on that show tried to win a grammy. What more do you want, really.

@@joshstrike actually giving a shitty performance on a show that no one forced you to be on makes them look like poser douchebag. They are basically saying "We don't care what anyone thinks - and we really, really want you to know this".
Music isn't part of my upbringing, but in retrospect how is Pavement and Yo La Tengo the only indie Gods that made late night. And pavement of all people with appearances littered all over the place.
