You never punch up You always kick down What do you mean there's no choices Of course there's choices just look around You can try your best your whole life Watch your loved ones die Because they just couldn't afford to live Or you can get lucky as shit Marry someone else rich And buy a nice big house in the woods So it can echo that much more When your loved ones die of something you paid Thousands of dollars to find on an MRI Or you can opt out and die You always kick down You never punch up Even though you of all people Should know how bad it sucks You know how bad it sucks so Fuck your face Fuck your dad Fuck every feeling that you ever had Fuck your heart Fuck your bones Have fun eating shit forever in hell alone I don't have to read anything you ever read or wrote You're not special just for torturing the poor You unoriginal spineless monster it's been done before If I could kill myself with no collateral damage I'd do it for something great I'd do it to help people I'd do it to save I'd fucking punch up How dare you kick down The thick dripping arrogance to even have this as an option Astounds anyone worth a shit And you're worth less than nothing so Fuck your lungs Fuck your mom Fuck your whole bloodline and your bitter tongue Fuck your brain Fuck your head I'd fucking kill you if you weren't already dead Watch your back you fucking clown 'Cause I'll spend eternity hunting you down Eat my shit Eat your blood Come to my house and I'll eat you for lunch No one has to listen to anything you ever read or wrote They all have important thoughts and feelings You're a monster and you don't You're not fucking special just for making people weep You're just like every other disgusting little creep Do me a little simple favor when you get to Hell tonight Take Nixon's dick out of your mouth for a second and cry

Honestly this song helps embody the feeling of knowing that even as an 18yr old. not sure if this is reassuring but generally speaking, you will always be a bad person to someone. but their perceptions cannot define you, you just have to keep trying to be a good person. hope they change their mind, but recognize they might never-- and that's not your problem. it just boils down to not defining yourself by other people. just keep doing your best to be kind and all that. good luck, internet stranger.

I am pretty sure that this song is about capitalism,racism,homo/transphobia, antisemitism, ableism and the other stuff that oppresses a good amount of people and how people will constantly try to get to the elites or the oppressive class by hurting people of the same minority or people who are already being oppressed. Like some queer/trans people will get close to conservatives to be “one of the good ones “ by bashing people of their same community or how some poc will play in the colorism view points or state that other poc are drug addicts and their “culture “ is violent but that they aren’t bad because they don’t practice their peoples “culture “. Or how some Jewish people will take conservative Christian rhetoric to target other marginalized religions to be more palatable to evangelical Christians.so I think this is a song about saying “ you are just as bad as the people people who are oppressing them when they are doing the same to others and we shouldn’t be tearing other people down but instead unionizing together to change the whole system together.

what happened to my comment I put with the lyrics (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ did youtube take it down because it violated guildelines or something I guess I'll analyze the song instead. note: I can only focus on one thing for a couple minutes so I'm gonna constantly be editing and adding on to this Penelope is addressing the shooter throughout the song when she says "you," but I don't think it's someone she knows personally, because the song is called "shitty song to listen to after a shooting," implying it's towards any shooter, regardless of who. although this isn't a theme within the song, something important to note is how our culture tends to be fascinated with shooters, they make tv shows, things the killer created are worth thousands, people read their works and analyze them, trying to find some way to rationalize of explain or humanize someone who committed an atrocity. this is sung in defiance of this fascination. "punching up" and "kicking down" mean two different things. the shooter kicks down, but never punches up. punching up and kicking down are both responses to pain, but kicking down is underhanded and hurts people where punching up is selfless. she's saying the shooter went and hurt people instead of doing something else. "what do you mean there's no choices, of course there's choices, just look around" shooters will often act like this was their only choice, that it had to end in death, but the world is so full with things to do besides committing a shooting the next few lines talk about trying your best, living a life, setting up the contrast between the shooter and the speaker, Penelope, because this is a more general "you" about how anyone could live their life
