I went to Uman in 2017 to visit the Sofiyivka Park while I was travelling in Ukraine. Had no idea about the Hasidim presence there and it was crazy to walk though and see more Hasidic Jews in one day than I'd seen in my whole life. Went to visit the synagogue and honestly the garb of the people in there was absolutely bizarre to me. Like one guy was wearing this tiny 2d cardboard cutout of a black hat. Anyway, I'm happy that I got to visit and see this slice of history.

You need a lot of courage to take such a young child into a country at war… I hope you both of you got home safely. Greetings from Oradea (Romania). We had a big Jewish Community before WW2. Most of the coummunity that survived is located in Brooklyn, NY now. We remember those who died in The Holocaust in schools, museums and special events, even though most of us are Christian Orthodox here.

@@ShloimeZionceI’ve asked the same on twitter but you didn’t respond. I’ll try again here. In your back to Poland movie you didn’t mention anything about Jews that still live in Poland and have their communities there. I’m one of them. I live in Warsaw. I think you’ve made a picture in which Poland is framed as one big cemetery where no Jews live. It’s very harmful for people like me. And then at the end you went to Hungary to show how amazing Jewish life is there. Could you tell me why?

Curious to know your opinion on the notion that going to uman for the holiday instead of staying with wife and kids is seen as wicked in some sects. They believe that Rosh Hashanah should be spend with family and not partying in Ukraine. I know it may be different for single yeshiva men as they don’t have a family yet but I’m curious to understand the perspective of the other side.
