And here pp. 54-55 the continuation: In 1946, the Bobover Rebbe arrived in New York via Italy and England, and settled in Manhattan. Barely 300 Bobover Hasidim had survived. At the time, there were so few Orthodox Jews in his Manhattan neighborhood that his son was sent out into the streets to look for a minyan. Shlomo Carlebach visited the Bobover Rebbe on the first Sukkot that the Rebbe celebrated in America (October 1946). Shlomo was very impressed by the Bobover storytelling at the ceremonious rejoicing of Simchat Beit Hashoeva despite the fact there were “only twenty people present.” The Rebbe later moved to Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn and developed kindergartens, schools, synagogues, and Talmud academies as his father had done in Eastern Europe. He aided displaced persons in coming to America, arranging job training in watch repair and the diamond industry. He encouraged his followers to enter the business world. When the crime rate rose at the beginning of the 1960s, he relocated to Borough Park. An estimated 12,000 Bobover Jews live today in Borough Park, and at the time of the death of the Bobover Rebbe in 2000, there were an estimated 120,000 members internationally. Eli Chaim and Shlomo both maintained a very close relationship with the Bobover. Shortly before his wedding in 1972, Shlomo traveled with several followers to the Rebbe to receive his blessings (see below, Chapter 11).

Please note that the first part of what is written above is taken verbatim from Lawrence Joffe, “Obituary: Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam: After escaping from the Nazis he revived an entire Jewish sect,” The Guardian, London, Sept. 2, 2000 (cited on pg. 54 of my biography of Reb Shlomo).

As a bobover we've never heard of the ready rescuing babies from the actual camps. No idea where Shlomo took this from. Although true that he was disguised as a Polish/ German officer at times, he had no position supervising any of the camps. Let alone smuggle any babies out. The camps weren't run that way. They didn't allow it.
