Shlomo Mintz is the second violinist that I've heard who plays the scale at the end all on the G string. The timbre of the G string gives extra brilliance. It is also very exciting to play and to watch. The only other artist I have watched who plays the scale this way is Soo Been Lee at the Menuhin Competition.

Soo Been Lee is great. Should've won the 2012 Menuhin Competition in my opinion, but now, she's way better off than the actual winner.

This is the music of Saint Säens and this is violin playing. Christian Li should be watching this as well as Repin.. Either you over - decorate it or you have no Fantasie.. I LIKE the Heifetz, Oistrahk, or Vengarov recordings..S. Mintz is truly in this tradition.. He has the hands and musical intensity very similar to Isaac Stern... Fantastic Recording

I saw Shlomo play this live in a very small theater in Washington, DC, when I was much younger. This recording just doesn't cut it. he misses so many notes and is out of tune so often I don't recognize his playing. I don't know why he uses this recording specifically on his site. compared to his other recordings, this is quite a let down.
