You should be careful with solder. Work in a well ventilated area and be aware that it has lead in it.
@Shmoxd7 жыл бұрын
ooooh! I didn't even take that into consideration :S Thanks for getting my back!
@stolenzephyr7 жыл бұрын
Happy to help! There are lead free solders out there, but no matter what, ventilation is important especially with that quantity. :) Super cool project though!
@HistoryHighwithLisaMarrie7 жыл бұрын
To avoid the use of solder you could try melting down pure copper, sterling or fine silver wire. You should still have proper ventilation but it's not nearly as toxic ad solder.
@blueorangeblossom7 жыл бұрын
Yes also, the spoon may have aluminum or a coating of some kind that would be toxic if burned off...enamel paints are also pretty toxic. The paints wouldn't be so bad, but the best thing to do would be to cast it in a crucible or even a homemade set up like sand. You can easily melt sterling silver jewelry or flatware for small projects, but you have to clean it with a hot solution called a "pickle" to clean off the dross...you can easily use copper with silver bc they work well together copper is the same, you can find it and melt it from other objects-it just turns green on the skin

@SakuyaLuigi7 жыл бұрын
I was just about to comment this. So true! I love that I found this, lol
@audreyh66287 жыл бұрын
Yeah - because that's what works. Enamel pins need to be made with industrial equipment and super high temp materials. But go ahead - try making it like this and see how it turns out. Oh and don't forget all the safety equipment you need that he forgot to mention so that you don't get cancer :)
@bubbahotep3807 жыл бұрын
Yeah duh! Whats wrong with you people? Its way better to give your designs to a Chinese manufacturer so they can pump out a couple hundred pins for you, keep the mold, and pump out a hundred thousand for themselves. Whilst all the while hyper polluting the environment by using substandard materials and equipment, undercutting the market, and destroying our economy. Or even better, you can give your design to a pin producer (AKA Fukkin pin vulture) pay at least double to get your design made by the same manufacturer. Only to have both the producer and the manufacturer steal your design. Thats whats up.
@krissydiggs6 жыл бұрын

just dont use any solder which contains led for this. wouldnt be very healthy. also if it contains flux dont breathe in the fumes it creates while it melts. again not very healthy. doesnt the solder bend quite easily? i feel like that could happen and cause the paint to chip off.

You might also want to experiment with metalclays like silver clay , you still get to use your blow torch and a lot less problems that the solder! :) do post if / when you try it though as I would like to see!
