I remember vividly the first time I heard this song (Kate's first single). I stood, transfixed, unable to believe what I was hearing. I fell in love. Then I learned that Kate was just 19 and had written the song herself! I bought her first album on its release and was blown away, not just by the voice, but by the writing. This was a teen girl? Amazing. Kate has been with me ever since.

This is a great reaction series friend, I'm a 45 year long Kate mega fan, it's amazing seeing people discover her because loving her can be kind of a singular experience, growing up know else I knew even knew who she was, but I was 1000pct entranced from the first song. You're comment during this song that she commands your attention with her voice is a perfect summation of loving this artist. Her visuals are absolutely a part of her being though, she was making videos and productions in the 70s for every song she did, theyare not just song marketing or MTV friendly. Can't wait to keep on this journey with you

The following is a previous comment that I posted to another person who was reacting to "Wuthering Heights" for the first time, it does repeat some points that have already been mentioned in comments, but I hope that you will find it to be interesting nevertheless. Also I'm really enjoying your deep dive into Kate Bush it's very much appreciated... A while before Wuthering Heights was written, a younger Kate managed to catch the tail end of a BBC adaptation of the Emily Bronte novel Wuthering Heights when Cathy (as a ghost) was outside a window of Heathcliff's house wanting to be let in. Kate shares the same Birthday as Emily Bronte and when she was young she was referred to as cathy. In order to get a feel for Cathy Kate read part of the book, interestingly when she did get round to reading all of it after finishing writing the song, Kate noticed certain phrases from parts that she hadn't initially read had ended up in the Lyrics anyway. Kate said that when she sung this song, she was Cathy, she was channelling the character. Kate's vocal performance is a single take with no edits. Kate had to fight her record company to get Wuthering Heights to be her debut single, EMI had chosen a completely different track from her "The Kick Inside" album, in the end EMI released Wuthering Heights because they thought that it would fail and teach Kate a lesson, instead it became a worldwide smash hit. Hitting number 1 in Australia, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and the UK. It was at least a top 10 (or better) in nine other countries. A single chart performance that would only be surpassed in 2022 by "Running Up That Hill".

What an amazing run of tunes it was today. I saved this one for the last reaction to watch as it's crowning everything. Just imagine an unknown singer bursting into public view with this song - and spending four weeks on the top of the (British) charts in early 1978. I was too young and living in the wrong country to be aware of her back then, but I caught up in the 90s. I've read both the German and the English versions of the novel more than once since then, always a pleasure. Also great to hear how Kate turned it into this haunting song.

Hi, and a really enjoyable reaction video. This was the first KB song I heard, on her first TV appearance, and for that reason, I guess if I can only ever take one of her songs with me through my life, this would be it. A few things about it always come to my mind, the first is the fact that this entire vocal performance was 1 take. The second is the way Kate deviates from convention and instead of rising up to the chorus or treating the chorus as a crescendo and builds up to it by way some kind of a pre-chorus or bridge or whatever, she actually descends into it, which always brings it to my hears with an even greater impact. And then there is the way the guitar solo begins as a drone in the distant background before moving forward from the mist, only to retreat back into the mist once more (I know that it was remastered a few years later to bring the guitar more forward in the mix, and I love that too, but this seems to really fit particularly well with the "white dress" version). If you decide to keep going with this album, the next song "James and the Cold Gun" is the song that the record company initially wanted to use as her first single, but she fought for and won the argument to have "Wuthering Heights" as her first, and the rest is history. But in saying that "James...." is an absolute belter of a banger of a song!

March 1978, this knocked ABBA's Take A Chance On Me off the number 1 spot and then blocked Blondie's Denis from getting there. It was a massive hit in the U.K. and cemented her position as force in British music - not bad going for a teenager's debut single. ALWAYS listen to the song first. Too many reactors are focussed on the video and end up reviewing the packaging rather than eating the bread.

One of the most unusual number 1 songs ever, and it came out at a time when disco & punk ruled the charts. It was so out-of-the-box that Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols became an instant fan. It's a shame that David Gilmour didn't play the guitar solo, it would've suited him perfectly. But Ian Bairnson did a fantastic job.

Ian Bairnson formally from Pilot and Alan Parsons Project did the guitar solo. It was mistakenly thought to be Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) but Floyd co-produced the track and 'discovered' Kate Bush. The other musicians included the rest of Pilot, Singer/Bassist David Paton and drummer Stuart Tosh.

My friend and I agreed that this was the first modern #1 hit song, whatever that means 🙂 It came out in the middle of punk, and although musically it seems like the opposite of punk, a 19-year-old singer-songwriter singing and dancing about a Victorian love story was totally against the grain. As far as your presentation goes, I love your unique style. Doods watching vids has got a bit old. Having said that, you should do a few video reactions, eg. this Kate Bush song.
