This is one of my favorite films and my favorite of Lugosi and Karloff teaming up. The entire cast is great and the story along with cinematography and sets are fantastic.

Love this one. Enjoy it better than Bride to be honest. Great countdown this year! I had no idea about the Inner Sanctum films, so I've been able to add a lot to my watch list. Always appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to the season. Wouldn't be October without you.

Thank you for watching. Glad to introduce you to the Inner Sanctum. They're fun!

SON of FRANKENSTEIN is one of the best horror films. One of my top five favorite horror films of all time. Four great horror stars, Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, Lionel Atwill, and Bela LUGOSI, who steals the picture. If it wasn't for the rerelease of both FRANKENSTEIN and DRACULA in 1938, this film would never have been made, and the universal horror films would continue into the 1940s.

It's a dream cast, no doubt!

Great movie - one of Lugosi’s and Atwell’s best roles. I can’t believe another October is almost gone. 🎃👍

The narration on this one has a real good style and energy. The Doc has given us a great countdown this year.

Thank you. Everyone seemed to really enjoy this year's theme. Lots of classic horror fans out there still, which is great to see

Hi Doc! Heard you on WPLN on Monday with Khalil Ekulona. I believe I've heard Bela Lugosi Jr. say Igor was his father's best acting job. Also, it was great to see the Sir Cecil Creape marker go up this year in Nashville, due in large part to your efforts.Thank you!!!

Thank you! That interview was a lot of fun, and I'm really proud of the Sir Cecil marker.

Easily a 5 Skulls for the cast alone! Plus the return to a more serious attitude toward the material. I'm a huge Bela Lugosi fan, so his Dracula will always take the No. 1 spot for me. He defined that character and despite many actors of quality doing the role, it is forever his. Boris one more time? Yes! He and Bela together again? Yes! Lionel Atwill in his defining Young Frankenstein inspiration? Yes! And I'll watch Basil Rathbone in anything. He's my definitive Sherlock Holmes. Nuff said. 5 boney craniums up!

That return to a more serious attitude is a great point.

@ drgangrene - I just rewatched Son of Frankenstein last night and you're right about Bela's performance. He proved he was an actor of great range and talent. His Dracula is so iconic, but Igor was a much richer character which required him to use his voice and physicality in ways that were completely different than his own. He knocked it out of the ballpark.

I thought it was a really good film; saw it a few years ago on Turner Classic Movies and was QUITE impressed with it. Superb casting really sold it.

Indeed! That's why I love TCM.

This is also one of my favorites! Lugosi, Karloff, Atwill, and Rathbone? What's not to like??
@drgangrene6 күн бұрын
For some reason I never think of this as a Karloff and Lugosi film, but of course it is. Great choice! Probably would be mine, too.

I'm one of those that subscribes to the theory that Peter is the middle name of Wolf's son. His full name is Frederick Peter Frankenstein. He has the right hair style.

Yes! I love that and it would work, timeline-wise.

I feel disappointed that my favorite horror film actor, Vincent Price, isn't featured in the countdown this year, though Dr. Gangrene mentioned that he reviewed The Invisible Man Returns more than one time in his countdowns. Wonder what he will show tomorrow for Halloween because, for me being a Vincent Price fan, it isn't Halloween without the mention or the video of a Vincent Price movie.
@thaisstone51927 күн бұрын
Well, Mr. Price only made 24 horror films.

Well I covered every film he ever did in the Fantastic Films of Vincent Price serious so you can always go back and binge those to get that fix! I'll try to get him in next year depending on the theme.
@drgangrene6 күн бұрын
Yes, but he was barely "seen" in it. Only The Invisible Man Returns, in which Price is on screen for only a few seconds at the end. But you do hear his voice throughout.

The only thing that would have made this film perfect would be the Monster throwing Una O'Conner from a tower of the castle. Someone CGI this. Please.
