Many people don’t realize it’s the follow-up to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Shock Treatment has some fantastic songs that often get overlooked. With standout tracks like “Bitchin’ in the Kitchen” and "Little Black Dress," it’s a quirky, bold musical that deserves more love. Thanks for the entertaining review-it was a fun to watch! I will be sure to recommend more soon :)

One interesting thing about this movie is that there wasn't much of a budget. There would have been more locations in the movie, but the SAG strike of 1980 forced production to take place in a UK studio. This is why the film takes place in a studio as opposed to having various locations. IMO, this worked as it hints at how TV (commercials, reality TV, etc) can shape our lives and make us confined to "social norms" or acceptance from popular shows. Also, the budget did not allow for getting Susan Sarandon to reprise her role as Janet. With her career taking off and the movie's low budget, there was no way to lock her in. As for Barry Bostwick as Brad, he had other filming obligations at the time, so he couldn't do it either.

Being a huge Rocky Horror Picture Show fan I couldn't wait to see Shock Treatment. No nearby theatres ran this movie so I had to wait until it came out on VHS. What a disappointing wait. My assessment of the two movies is completely opposite yours. I love, love, love RHPS. I have been a member of a shadow cast (not a fan of that aspect) but I was fortunate enough to be double cast as both the Narrator and Dr. Scott at the Midland Center For The Arts production of the stage musical, The Rocky Horror Show. I have 24 variations of the RHPS soundtrack and Rocky Horror Show cast albums. I have several copies of RHPS on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray. I collect books, posters, comix, lobby cards, bootlegs, etc., etc. But I despise Shock treatment and its music. Sidebar: Since the original stage version of RHS opened in 1973 it has been in continuous production ever since. Just as the movie is the longest running film shown weekly in theaters since its release in 1975. Somewhere in the nation (and worldwide) on any given weekend you can see either the stage musical or movie.

Rocky Horry is not a movie you watch, it is one you experience in-person, in the theater. I was shadow cast for may senior high-school year, as well as a few years after that. Met some great people, and still talk and see a few to this day ( 25+ years later ).

I reckon subconsciously your enjoyment for this movie was heightened by the lack of a deadpan Susan Sarandon
