Structurally, this game feels like Zelda meets Warioware.

What an odd game, and the art shift is bizarre as well, was it fun to play?

I think it's pretty fun. Fun enough that I actually wish the game was longer.

Um...is that the fairy from Rayman?

gunsage Yeah. Korean arcade games tend to steal resources from other companies. This whole game was even stolen from an obscure Japanese PC game, which I'm guessing didn't have the Rayman fairy, although I've never played it so I can't be sure.

arronmunroe Yeah, the game that was stolen and copied to make "Shocking" was 幻世快進劇 (Gensei Kai Shingeki), to be more specific. It was made by the now-defunct Compile (yes, the same guys responsible for Puyo Puyo), and was originally a part of DiscStation Vol.12, but later got a standalone release. Though the one thing that the original game clearly lacked was two-player capability, and the bootleggers went ahead and added that, which is a plus. I believe I was the first Westerner ever to uncover the Gensei/Shocking connection (though the Japanese and Koreans already knew for quite some time, just that there wasn't any English info saying that Shocking copied from Compile's game up til this year), and it took a blog post about DiscStation from a Blogspot site called Lunatic Obscurity to make my mind connect the two. I even made an extensive post about it on the HG101 Forums. There's even a Nicovideo playthrough of the original game if you know where to look (typing Japanese required). Compile's game has neat hi-res graphics, and the stolen arcade port is so low-res that it makes it look more like a Western MS-DOS game from the mid-90s.

Fergzilla23 I checked that 1cc video of this game again and it definitely was from your comment that I learned where the game came from. I'll have to see if I can play the original sometime.

arronmunroe Yeah, I had a hard time trying to find either DiscStation Vol.12 or the standalone Japanese version of 幻世快進劇, but I did find its Korean version 환세쾌진극 just fine. I don't think there's any difference between 幻世快進劇 and 환세쾌진극 besides the elimination of all Japanese text and replacing it with Korean (and sometimes Latin characters). I don't understand either language anyway, so...
