Shanice Wallace I don’t think that stems from racism from most people, bc what matters to me is that the live action character resembles the characters we’ve come to know and love. I also don’t like when they use big stars, like Emma Watson. We know her as Hermione so I can’t see her as Belle. Wish they’d stick to what the characters actually look like, and use lesser known actors. It kinda feels like a cheesy Disney channel movie otherwise. But on a plus note, at least it’s good for little black girls who live in predominantly white communities to feel represented. I’m just saying the viewpoint I think a lot of people have, which doesn’t necessarily make it racist.

@Derek Adjei first off I'd like to say this. Her whole reaction was never "where is my African ancestry from though". Her reaction was always "are they saying I'm white?". She is giving impartial treatment (even if it is verbally) and is obviously biased towards one race. That is the definition of racism. Her reaction was racist.
@jinmause2065 жыл бұрын
@Derek Adjei "other people do it too" isn't a reason. Its an excuse. She posted this herself and left herself open to whatever criticisms come her way (although the bullying is NOT criticism). Please, before you make an ass of yourself elsewhere, know this, no matter the context, backround of a person, or ethnic origin one stems from, racial bias is still racial bias, and is thus racist. people treat racism as if it was rampant like in the 50's and before, but it's not. It is through the minds and voices of racially biased people like yourself that segregation is perpetrated. No matter what, what you just said was (marginally) racist.
@jinmause2065 жыл бұрын
@Derek Adjei also, it is not a case of "Whites vs. Blacks" where the "Whites" are offended, moreso the fact that she had been so vocal in her politics and equality, but she seems displeased that she is even remotely of "European descent", where is she had truly practiced her preach, she would have been pleasantly surprised to know her ancestry was so diverse (albeit a bit shocked) she has no excuse for her attitude, not even "Oh I never found out my African ancestry" because that is not the issue, the issue is her obvious racial bias (which again, means that she was being racist, though not intentionally)

Her shock is warranted. She's very clearly, a black woman. Finding out your lineage is so European that a test can't detect African ancestry is very surprising, specially considering that she grew up black with black parents and grandparents. Her disappointment however, cannot be justified. She made a fool of herself on the internet, over reasonable expectations, but still, I cannot believe she didn't anticipate being made fun of.
@vytah Жыл бұрын
The test she used couldn't detect any African ancestry if her mother's mother's mother's mother's mother's mother was European, as it only looked at mitochondrial DNA, which is passed on by females. The rest of her family tree is irrelevant for this test.

We have four grandparents and out of every four of them one would carry a non-African mTDNA/Y chromosome in that lineage. It’s still possible for Nia to trace her African roots of her mom’s dad, dad’s dad, and dad’s mom by having a living male relative by taking the MatriClan and PatriClan tests for her and to see her efforts are not in vain. I understand her disappointment in learning there was a European forebear in her family tree and this because I also happen to have two percent European DNA on my mom’s side of the family yet African Ancestry still traced my roots back to the Tuareg people in Mali 🇲🇱and was able to find out my paternal lineage is from Africa among the Fula people of Guinea-Bissau 🇬🇼.

I don’t blame her for feeling upset that her maternal lineage is traced back to Europe, not Africa. I’m awaiting results from African Ancestry after taking the test back in May. I’d encourage her to reach out to her father to do the MatriClan and PatriClan and see if it traces back to Africa and that she’s still African deep down despite what other non-black folk have to say.

Getting a job to a large business, over another more qualified job candidate, because large businesses have government regulations where they have to hire at least a certain percentage of minorities. I heard a pastor preaching about being happy with who God created you to be. He said sometimes people will say "I wish I was born in a different time", or "I wish I didn't have red hair". Just 2 examples. He said that we should never question or be unhappy with who we are. God made us. Being unhappy with who we are is being ungrateful to God, and ungrateful to the ones who have since gone on to their reward. I've had my dna done, and was extremely surprised at some of my ancestry, since it didn't go along with all I'd been told. It was exciting!! It was a privilege to learn things about my past that my grandparents wouldn't know until they met God face to face. The color of our skin, and where we were born won't matter to God. What will matter is how we treat people, and did we love our fellow man. God will look at us in the face and ask "who'd you bring with you". Ancestry, and all of this dna is fun, but what is in our hearts is what really matters. Be blessed.

Because it only measures one strain of DNA, the mitochondrial DNA, witch only gets passed from mothers to daughters.
