You'll probably learn that making things yourself, like mashed potatoes, will be cheaper and stretch for more meals if you make them yourself instead of buying kits. Also, eating healthy doesn't have to break the bank. It breaks the bank when people try to do complicated recipes with unique ingredients instead of using the true healthy options of things that came off a plant or out of the ground.

Yes, the counter was covered with a huge amount of processed foods. Kids learn to eat as adults what their fed as children. I purchase very basic groceries, with very little processed foods. For the cost of instant mashed you could buy a large bag of spuds at Costco. Make your own French fries, have baked potato night, scalloped potatoes, oven roast and potatoes, mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes- My mom made potatoes to stretch the $$$’s. Also give up the chips and give kids fruit slices or carrot sticks instead. Processed foods have so many additives, processed cheese slices are mostly oil. And most items, cereals, pop tarts and such are loaded with sugar. You can also purchase large bags of frozen veggies and fruit at Costco- My grandkids love eating frozen blueberries as a dessert- Sugary desserts should be for a once a week treat or special occasions. Let’s teach our children to eat nutritionally-

You guys are making such a huge difference. Your willingness to be vulnerable has relieved some of the shame in our massive debt. That shame keeps the cycle going for sure. HUbby and I have printed the debt-free sheets, prepared a budget, and are beginning to climb our way out of debt, all since watching you guys bare your financial souls with us. We have been talking about it for a long time, but your videos gave us such motivation to get serious about it. I've already begun coloring lines (on our sheets) and envelopes as we unbury ourselves. I'm thinking you guys could seriously get a "get started" kit together! With Cullen's artistic ability and Katie's level of detail orientation...you're sure to keep this going! I seriously watch your videos to keep my self motivated! IT WORKS! Your vulnerability is the real deal. THANK YOU!!!!

Aldi has been a life saver for us. We learned about it back when the one in Decatur, AL was the only one in this area, and we'd go once a month to restock our staples. Then we took a massive pay cut the next year, and it has been our only grocery store since. It's the only place I've been able to make feeding four people with food sensitivities on a budget of about $80 a week possible without just living on beans and cornbread.

Long time subscriber here to say thank you. Your struggle, your life? It’s changed ours. My boyfriend and I (still not married, but some day!) should have been in crisis much sooner than we came to it. We just did the best we could to ignore it. We are in a combined $80,000 in debt, just over half of which is student loans. Up until you started posting your debt videos, we just stuck our heads in the sand and let things go to collections. Today, we downloaded EveryDollar and are going to start FPU next week. We make plenty to cover our everyday expenses, but we literally blew it on dumb stuff. Thank you for your honesty. 73% lean isn’t the leaner ground beef. It’s the fattiest. The highest fat content my Kroger sells is 80/20 (80% meat 20% fat) and you’re at 73% meat and 27% fat. It will make a good burger though.

For laundry detergent you’ll want to price per wash load rather than per ounce. Some brands are 2 or 3 times more concentrated so they only use 1 oz. per load, others use several ounces so you’re paying for extra water and giant containers.

We use powder detergent and it stretches soooo much further! 6 months ago, I started an experiment and would mark the powder box with a sharpie every time I did a load. Then I bought a thing of liquid detergent and marked that one too... I did the math for both and calculated the cost per load. Powder came out WAY cheaper than the liquid and lasted me three times longer. You can even mix the powder with some water before putting it in your washer, if you feel funny about putting straight powder in it.

Well done Cullen and Katie. I’ve never shopped at Aldi, maybe I’ll give them a try. I signed up for WalMart grocery delivery. It is a splurge. I have some health/mobility issues that make trudging thru Walmart shopping for 5 adults + 1 little, getting it all home and put away pretty tough for me some days. So I find the benefit to me worth the cost of delivery. I do think I’m spending less because I’m not browsing thru Walmart, picking up this.... grabbing that..... and throwing the other.... in my cart. You guys seem so energized by all the successes you’re having along the way as you set up your budget and envelopes, sell stuff, and close the gap on getting current. It’s really great to see. I won’t speak for others but will just say I’m here to support you, not to wonder about how you spend your $, or to judge your grocery choices. I do think most subscribers feel the same way. Because of this video, I am going to shop at Aldi's THIS WEEKEND! The only reason I hadnt is because I like convenience/ close to home. Thats being lazy on my part! We have 2 "fairly close by us. I am continuously told how awesome it is and how inexpensive it is. My sister in law is married to a Country Music singer, I won't mention his name, but I was with her yesterday for birthday lunch, when she dropped me off at home, she said she was headed to Aldi's to some groceries, I said "AT ALDI'S"??? She said heck yes, ABSOLUTELY, they're prices are the best and the produce is really good. (Now, She could actually afford to go where she wanted to, but she is the most thrifty shopper I know)! Im discovering, the secret to having and keeping any amount of wealth, is not about how much you have OR make, it's about how you handle it! Period!! Just because you can afford something OR THE BEST of something, doesnt mean its smart to do it. Its smart and MORE ADMIRABLE to show how much you can get away with NOT SPENDING IT!! It's kinda fun to see how many days I can go without spending a red cent! I'm trying to give up Amazon shopping, the drivers know me by name, that's a sign, not a good sign!! I'm following some of your Budgeting methods from your vidoes!

I love Aldi! We're a family of 5 (my kids are 1, 3 and 5) and we shop once a week. We used to go every 2 weeks, but I found it to be cheaper going once a week (we spend around $100-$125 once a week so monthly is about $400-$500). . We go through fruit and veggies so fast so this works great for us. Plus, we meal plan one week at a time which saves us a ton of money. I recommend getting their paper towels (the ones compared to Sparkle are cheaper and just as great). I also like their disinfecting wipes. The kettle cooked jalapeno flavored chips and white cheddar popcorn are ADDICTING!!!! The pancake/sausage on a stick are also really good. I cook up ground beef and freeze it quite often. I don't add anything to it most of the time, just cook it and freeze it so it's ready for whatever I want to put it in. Occasionally, I will add onion to it so if I want to add it to a casserole, the onion is already there. Also, I don't fry my ground beef in a pan. I put it in a covered glass baking dish and microwave it. 3-4 minutes, then drain and chop up a bit, then about 2 minutes to finish it up. No mess on the stove!

I used to buy the store brands of laundry detergent. I have found that I spend less on laundry detergent by buying Tide Pods on Amazon. It's about $21 for 96 pods, and that container will last us between 2 and 3 months. This is more expensive than liquid store brand detergent, but it cleans better by far, and we never use more than one pod per load of laundry, so with the amount of detergent controlled, it's predictable how long it will last.

Just curious, has your views gone up since starting the debt disaster? Does it help with ad sense? I hope it does because I’m enjoying these videos so much

You can go back and look at all three views, they definitely have gone back up a bit. I've even stopped skipping adds cause i think that helps give them more money!

Aldi is wonderful!!! We save SO much money by shopping there. Just read on the news that Aldi is going completely preservative free in the near future so it saves money and is healthy.

Okay, the 5lb ground beef is great. You can even put it in your instant pot and cook it that way! I do this all the time. I cook it all, drain off the fat, and then divide it into 5 ziplock bags, so it's about a pound of meat per bag and freeze it. Then I use it for whatever I need it for. When I'm feeling really ambitious, I will make the whole 5lb log into meatballs and freeze them. So good, and WAY cheaper than meatballs from the store!

Yay Aldi! You did awesome. I go there every 2 weeks and get all the groceries for about 200$ for a family of 5. Tip keep your list on your notes on your phone of what you got, if you go back before the 2 weeks add the items to your list that you went back for. Then the next time you will have just gotten more of the items you ran out of so you won’t run out that 2 week cycle

Razors and detergent I use the Krazycoupon lady website and compare. Most of the time the coupons will be linked there. CVS also does cash back once you start spending more there

From today.com - While most us associate "frosted flakes" with the one and only blue box featuring a roaring - but friendly - striped tiger, it's actually not a trademarked cereal name, meaning that General Mills is free to call its new cereal "Frosted Flakes," too.

I love these vlog styles. 73 percent lean ground beef is one of the fattiest ones, 96 percent lean is the leanest 😃

I find it helpful to make a two week menu and buy nearly everything at ALDI. I do have to go on my “off week” to get milk and a little produce but it saves us so much.

I need to make an Aldi run tomorrow. I love their oranges. I juice them and then blend it with a box of strawberries. It makes a great juice.

Katie- I make a yummy soup with the Rice ramen. Cook some chopped onions in a pan, then roughly chop some baby bok choy and stir fry. Also put some skinless chicken in the oven to cook. Then fill a pan with water, add some chicken boullion or veggie, the stir fried veggies, some soy sauce, some essence oil and salt and pepper to taste. Then add 3 of the Ramon cubes. Let cook for about 15 minutes. Place in a bowl And add sliced chicken on top- I keep in the fridge and eat for several days. Hits the spot!

One thing that I learned about in the last year is zero waste stores. I am all about helping save the environment and produce less waste. I found a zero waste store in my city where you can bring your own container and fill up your laundry a dishwasher detergent. I filled up my laundry detergent back in the middle of October. I filled a giant Costco sized jug half way full and cost $32 which you might think is expensive but it is a high concentrated detergent so you only use a tablespoon per load. I have only used a small amount of it and we are into February. I predict it will last me through the summer before I need to fill up again. And I do usually a load a day (all the workout clothes). Something to maybe look into in the future

If you have a dollar general around you they have great coupons for laundry detergent. Tide pods, $2 off comes out to $2.95 for like 16-20ish loads. You can also double coupon if you can find extra. Plus $5 off $25 on Saturdays. 😊

I always buy the ground meat in bulk like 10 lbs tubes and I pre cook & season then freeze in smaller bags and it’s super quick to pull out and make tacos spaghetti or even lasagna. Great haul!!

I always forget about Aldi, will have to check it out again! Our grocery is always more expensive because our daughter has a ton of food allergies so anything that's not fresh for her is expensive!

Katie there are websites that already link the coupons to the grocery items at various stores. Like the couponingcouple.com. They also tell you where you can print coupons from the web. Don’t forget Publix also has online coupons too. The app flipp will have various ads available for you to help compare sales prices when shopping.
