If you ever do a label comparison, you will notice the ingredient list for Aldi is shorter with more natural ingredients then a national brand. Case in point-Cheetos had MSG, Aldi does not. Lucky Charms has Red dye #4, Blue dye, etc. Aldi marshmallow and stars does not. Those are just to name a few.

I am from The Netherlands, and I can tell you there is one other big difference than just the price difference. ALDI doesn't use poison in the food. Where other supermarkets sell A LOT of products that include aspartame (or as another commenter already said petroleum based stuff) ALDI doesnt use it. So next to saving a lot of money, you are also going to be healthier. Also, I see some people complaining about the quality of vegetables. These are a thing called fresh vegetables. If you want to have perfect looking vegetables you are looking for frozen vegetables and GMO food. Aldi doesn't sell GMO. It's a German company and most of the unhealthy stuff that is legal in western countries, is either not legal or not preferred in Germany.

So, the main takeaway is that even when there is a somewhat recognizable difference between Aldi vs, name brand, the difference is so slight that unless you are doing a side-by-side taste test, you likely wouldn't know. And sometimes, Aldi actually wins! For the rather notable price savings, this is a no brainer. I used to be an Oreo snob and now I'm hooked on Aldi's version at half the price. Like John, my initial reaction to the store itself was not that great but once you get past that, it's easy to grow to love Aldi. John's just being a stubborn poopie head about the shopping cart and bags but at least he recognizes the savings aspect. GREAT job, Cathy!!! I'd like to see a round 2 taste test in the future.

I've been shopping at Aldi's for a long time, and if the food was no good, the savings would not matter. However, there is virtually no difference between Aldi brands and the national brands. I spend half as much at Aldi's than what I used to spend at the chain supermarkets. Also, Aldi's produce is second to none.

Damn, you stole my usual shopping style for a car or the back of my 4x4, load stuff into laundry baskets in the back of the vehicle from shopping trolleys, etc. LOL But when I am on the bike, I park it close to the ADLI exit doors, wheel the shopping cart over when I have finished shopping, and fill up the saddle bags, top-box, and the stuff sack on the pillion seat... And then, when I get home, I have to get the laundry baskets out to the bike to transfer the groceries from the bike into the house. Of course, I have 3 ALDI laundry baskets and an ALDI laundry basket trolley to cart the groceries from the bike into my kitchen. But generally for groceries, I am an ALDI shopper. If I try something that is 98% of the taste but 50% of the price of a big brand I will get that. But I have also tried some of their other groceries and found that they were way better and also usually half the price of big brands. It's a matter of taste. And I have bought a bunch of ADLI non-grocery "themed" stuff. I love their twice weekly "themes". I have bought so much stuff from them:- from camping equipment; tools; motorcycle gear; gardening; laundry stuff, and the list goes on and on.

Growing up there was a huge store called Budget Chopper that my family shopped at. We spent less than $75 a month on groceries. We bagged our own groceries and had to pay a deposit to get the basket. And honestly we usually bought the store brand AND that was when store brands were very noticeable. BUT now my little family shops generally anywhere. I have recently found Aldi and love it.

I remember budget chopper, we had one by my house as a kid, this was about 30 years ago, sometimes my aunt would give me & my cousin $3 each & let us go get our school lunch for the next day, we would buy our lunch & buy a stupid toy with the left over change, back then slap on bracelets were popular, strips of aluminum covered in fabric you slapped on your wrist and it wrapped around your wrist. Good times. lol

I love Aldi I made the switch about 4 years ago and honestly I don't think I'm switching anytime soon. What I like about Aldi is how affordable it is and quickly they check you out. Also the reason they don't have bagger and cart person is because the other employees get paid more since there are less employees. I do like the bring your own bag helps with reducing waste. I have a couple organic totes and that fits all of my food. Tbh atmosphere has never matter to me I am used to shop in Asian and Hispanic stores so honestly Aldi feels like a normal supermarket to me.

The process is why the product is cheaper, not the product. Items on pallets, bring your cart back for your quarter, bring your own bags, and bag yourself, keep cost down significantly, and the saving is passed to the shopper. Great video's!

This 2 part video has to be the best I've seen yet. Nous avons besoin d'une partie deux pour inclure Rachel, putting the high dollar chains & CO-wal-U-mart-GH. I was happy to see the bonus items after the items Cathy & John shopped for. That's what gave me the idea for a Partie Deux. One last thing. I remember back in the late '60's/early '70's we had a Payless Shoes open in a bldg in the downtown area from the turn of the century 1800-1900's. That's what Aldi reminded me of when I first saw one, years ago. A new start store thrown in a rundown retread bldg. Glad to see their products comparable to other brands. Ok, one more, one last thing. If ya go to Kroger/Dillon's and get Milk, Pop, Hamburger, 2 boxes of Spanish Rice-a-Roni and 2 cans of Chili Ready tomatoes, a jar of Tostitos Medium Salsa, and 2 tubs of Vividly Vanilla Ice Cream, & use self check out, you're goin to bag it yourself. So what's the beef with bringing your own bag? WRT store carry-outs, I did that in HS. Great way to meet girls! Plus, it employs people who might not have a job otherwise. Gee, I used one more One Last Thing, huh? 😉 Thanks again! Keep these vids coming!!

I agree with John, Aldi (at least my local Aldi) doesn't have everything I need and I always have to go to another store as well. However, I am on a small fixed income and have plenty of time, so it is worth it to me to take the time to go to two stores. The dairy aisle alone saves me huge amounts of money. It also helps that my Aldi is very close to my home, less than 5 minutes away. If I had to drive far to get to an Aldi, I wouldn't bother.

I'm normally a Kroger fan and shopped there for years but then we moved to a home right down the street from Aldi and the Kroger was 15-20 minutes away. While I still occasionally make the trip to Kroger, Aldi is now my store of choice. We host board game parties on major holidays where we have to feed 12-18 people for lunch, dinner, and snacks. I shopped my last one at Aldi and only spent around $65 for chicken tacos, chili, and snacks for 15 people. I would have spent at least double that at Kroger.

The reason I could do chicken tacos so cheaply is Aldi has chicken breasts for $1.89 per lb pretty much year round without a sale and they can get even cheaper during certain sales. Kroger only runs $1.99/lb a few times a year and generally they instantly sell out so you have to be quick. I don't need a whole row of icecream if it means paying 1/2 price or less for my groceries.

By the way you can buy a plastic "key" on Ebay which you push in the trolley lock, this unlocks it then you just turn it to the side and the key pops back out. We have to stick a $1 or $2 coin in otherwise.

Thanks for the tip on the plastic “key” I have never heard of that.

I do shop at Aldi's but I am not one of those shoppers who believe their quality is on a par with Premium brands as such. My opinion is the 30 / 70 proposition they offer, which is indeed compelling. That is you pay 30% of the price of premium brands and get 70% of the quality. I shop every 4 months at a non Aldi Premium supermarket to remind myself of this and it becomes very apparent. Still they provide a great value proposition.

That was such a fun couple of videos! I really enjoyed them. We probably do 80% of our grocery shopping at Aldi so it was heartening to get a little validation. We have also picked up some unexpected deals on their "insider aisle". Everything from an electric chain saw ($29) to Dutch bulbs. It is sort of 'catch as catch can ' which is fun. Thanks for the taste tests!
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I enjoyed doing them. I knew Aldi would be cheaper but I was surprised how much cheaper it was. I love the “insider aisle”, we talked about it our shopping video but it was so long I cut it out. I bought patio furniture their last year. I love seeing the new stuff they have every week!

I shop at Aldi for my main shopping. Then go to Kroger for what I can't get at Aldi. The money I save is worth going to Aldi.
@grlblamb93055 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Also I like that they are not selling 200 types of ice cream (or whatever). Too many inane decisions that take up too much time in a grocery store. More time in store = more $$ spent.

Have you tried any Dollartree stores or do you have them, kinda like Dollar General but everything is only a dollar at the dollartree.
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
We do have Dollar Tree, but have never tried the food. We might have to try that.

A much more fair comparison of the two salad dressings would be the Aldi brand versus The Craft brand since they are almost identical.

Good review we have a couple of Aldi's in VT. I have to eat gluten free, celiac disease. Their gf products are pretty good, baked beans yuck. I like that Aldi is getting some organic food, food allergies. Appreciate your reviews!

I like Aldi . They have the best Ranch and Bacon Chunky Chicken Salad I have ever had in my life . I tried the Chipotle Chicken Salad and it didn't come close to the Ranch and Bacon Chicken Salad . As far as their fruit goes , you might want to wait a few weeks before you try to eat it . It seems , they pick their stuff early . I even read that online too . Other than that , I like Aldi . Try to buy boneless skinless chicken thighs any where else under $ 1.69 a lb. , I haven't been able to find it under that price - not even close actually .
@2centchick6 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to try that! Thanks!

Awesome video!!! I have never been to Aldi and have had similar judgements as John towards the store BUT you have absolutely changed my mind! I've got to do some grocery shopping and I'm going to Aldi. I hope my experience is as good as your video!! Thank you for enlightening me!!

My husband has the same sort of complaints... For the absolute basics, stores like Aldi but specialty items or for better selection then you need the more expensive grocery stores for selection.

They put a Aldi right next to our local Walmart. I'm a Walmart person but I'm going to try Aldi for sure

Yeah, after he realized their brands are just as good he was less negative. Thanks for watching! And I appreciate your comments! 😀

I _LOVE_ Aldi. We're on a pretty tight budget yet we eat like kings thanks to Aldi. I'm currently doing the 21 day fix diet which means TONS of veggies, fruit & lean meats and thankfully I can afford to do it with Aldi's products. I agree with the lady with the pink sweater (sorry didn't catch her name) Aldi's chips are way better than name brand. Their BBQ chips have way more flavor than even like Lay's KC Masterpiece chips. My husbands personal favorite chips are their cheddar & sour cream potato chips which are way more cheesier than Ruffles.

I love Aldi too! I guess I can see why some people don’t like it....the cart...the bagging...fewer choices. I say those are small things to get past for the money you save. And a lot of the food is better, like the chips. Good luck with 21 day fix! I did the workout a few years ago, I wasn’t great with the eating 🙁 but I followed the workout. I’m on my second round of 80 Obsession now, the workouts are awesome! Thanks for watching!

After watching this video I sure wish I had an aldis, ya bagging your own groceries could be a pain, but for the price I dont think you could beat it. Great video. Hope you have a great new years.

My Aldi is crossing the street from Walmart, I go to Aldis first and then stop by Walmart for whatever is left in my list. I love Aldi, I never tried a bad quality product from them, yes few items taste different, but thats expected as they are different brands!

We love ALDI. Personally, I like the coin-released carts because it keeps them all corralled and prices down. I also like using my own bags because WAY too many plastic bags are impacting our environment. I even like bagging myself because I can pack according to where each item will be stored once it is home. We have a specific list for ALDI (not a fan of their meats and the produce at our location can be dodgy) and we buy a month's worth at a time. Thanks for making this video so other skeptical folks can feel better about trying ALDI!

And I like the deposit on the shopping cart and bagging my own groceries. Those 2 things is what makes it where the aldi workers make decent money and I don't pay a lot for my food. Most times the aldi brand tastes better because they don't use as much crap in theirs and a national brand does.

They only have one resturant left , I think in Ohio, , they are suppose to build one up in Noblesville , Indiana, but I think its going to have a bar an grill attached. Noblesville, Indiana is where they opened their first store .back in 1964.
