Male bears sometimes k!ll cubs in a behavior known as **infanticide**, and it usually happens for a few key reasons. One major reason is **reproductive advantage**-by k!lling a female’s cubs, a male can bring her back into estrus (heat) sooner, increasing his chances of mating and passing on his own genes. This is especially common in species like polar bears and brown bears, where competition for mates is fierce.
Another factor is **scarcity of food**. In times of starvation, a male bear might attack cubs for an easy meal, though this is less common than infanticide for mating purposes. Younger, inexperienced males may also attack cubs out of aggression or dominance.
While it may seem cruel, infanticide is a natural survival strategy in the wild, ensuring the strongest genes are passed on. However, mother bears are fiercely protective and will fight to defend their young. #Bears #Wildlife #Nature #AnimalBehavior #BrownBears
