i was 13 in 1970. didn't have a radio or anything or even a stereo, never mind money to buy records. Knew nothing. But I built a crystal radio (AM) and with just a single ear plug, no amplification or electricity of course, I could get the local AM radio which played pop songs between commercials, and heard this

This song has been nr 1 three times in Billboard Hot 100. Shocking Blue's original version went to number 1 in february 1970. Stars on 45 (Starsound) got to number 1 with this song in 1981. And Bananarama's cover peaked at number 1 in september 1986.
