I worked with the largest companies in the home warranty business, the customer is the real problem… we set it up that any uncovered items were paid with cash or certified check BEFORE the work was done. You should have seen their expressions when we told them that!! So we went over it at least four times before we ever set foot back on the job. Please do yourself a favor and set some standards for dealing with these people.

Also what I noticed with some customer they think whenever you are a single guy, you should not charge the same way as the big companies. Here where i am its the opposite.Florida. We have hvac people trying to rip us off badly. I called because needed new fan. They wanted $1700 and not a penny less. I bought it for $75 and was done within an hour. I even showed them the part for $75 at grainger and showed labor is 1 hour for thay job. How the heck can someone try to charge $1700 for one hour and $75 common part?. Wish we had good reliable hvac people around here. I had to learn to fix it all myself so i dont get ripped off by someone with about same knowlege as me. They know florida is hot and always try and take advantage knowing people are sweating badly and want ac.

This is the reason why I will NEVER go back to residential HVAC. I had my own company for 8 years and people started getting to me. I walked away from the business. Worked for a few companies before I started working for the company I am with now and have been for over 10 years. I LOVE Commercial HVAC. None of this customer not wanting to pay the bill bullshit ! Yes, you can still get burnt on commercial jobs, but when you do work for big corporations, instead of a individually owned businesses, it's pretty much guaranteed you get paid. When I am done with a job, all I have to do is walk into the retail store, have the manager,or assistant manager sign my invoice,AND I AM OUTTA THERE ! Another GREAT thing about commercial, there are absolutely NO HELICOPTERS hovering around you . They're NOT gonna follow you up a 40 foot ladder to check up on you. ANYWAY, I am happy you got paid. I started yelling at my TV ( your customer), hypothetically telling him how much I'm gonna rearrange his face if he did not pay me ( you ) LOL. I was cheering you on ! If you read this and respond, what parts of the country are you from ? Just curious. My work area is Pennsylvania ( Center City Philly) ,NJ. You truly have a great gig going for you . God bless , Howard H .

So thats why no ac company returns my calls when i ask for a tech to come replace the gas valve and orifice tubes under the warranty because its only pushing out enough gas to ignite the flame then keep cycling and it blew apart one of the orifice tubes from the delayed ignition., called 5 different companies who service goodman or amana and told them i already tested gas pressure before the valve and its within spec so the tech will only have to replace the valve under warranty. And that’s how you do that. The Home warranty business is full of scammers, got to watch out. But it’s called theft of services you can’t agree to the cost of services then not pay on completion of said services. The contractor has the right to take his parts back or disconnect them or put a lean on the property. If the homeowner gets mad and calls the police stay and tell your side the cops will side with you after seeing the paperwork so remember if you don’t get the money upfront at least get the homeowners signature on a company invoice stating what has been agreed to before starting the job to ensure you’re within your rights when pulling that disconnect and putting a lock on the box.
