They do make outdoor flex gas line but that's not it but for that unit there is no reason to use it

WOW, That shit is crazy! Looks like the lowest bid won kind of job before. How the hell does the manager or owner not do anything about these units! He paid all that money, the least he can do is take care of them. Hopefully they hire you to maintenance them from now on.

That is INSANE. Now, your response about mounting it on the unit... I think it is technically fine, I would practice never doing that because of other bad practices that may end up happening. But that has got to be the wildest garbage I have seen in HVAC.

Keeping fasteners from removed/trashed equipment? I would. Take a compressor power connector to test port/terminals for meter and supply power for diag. Use power probe work?

Ive seen 208 3phase disconnected laying flat on their back, cover missing and full of water, and they had been that way for years! even the gfci curtesy plug was full of water
