Stauffer System looks like a Greaser for the bearing, hence the Brass ring. That cap unscrews so you can fill it with grease. German mining equipment ETC.

What a wonderful charity that takes care of the kids in hospice. It shouldn't matter what their condition is they should all experience a wonderful Christmas 🎁⛄. Prayers to all those kids going through horrific illnesses. Hopefully they will get the greatest gift of all. Life. It does happen. 5 years ago I was given 6 months to live due to terminal cancer. I got my Christmas wish. It wasn't easy but eventually was granted. Don't give up on these kids. The power of prayer.

🎄 Merry Christmas 🎄 I was curious about that Stauffer system 2 ,,,, And I found them on Wikipedia search , And that it is an axel bearings with and a rubber seal and that other little writing that is on a rubber seal is for the size of the axel goes through it , With gear cogs on the end of the axel , The stem that says Stauffer system 2 is a lid that screws off to fill an oil reserve that keeps oil on axel as it turns , And those 2 screw holes are for support mounts ,,,,,,,,,,, I always enjoy history and technology from the past years ago

That Stauffer piece could well be the center of a pillow bearing. That "wheel" has a belt groove on the outer diameter of it. Possibly off an old industrial sewing machine. Too bad the Sappers could not have disarmed that Kugel grenade. That was a real ripper.

The Stauffer No 2 is basically a greaser or an oiler. They are filled with grease or oil and used to lubricate bearings, line shafts etc, etc, or in this case probably a stern tube or rudder tube by tightening the cap a little bit every so often.

The hood ornament isn't from an Austin. They used the "Flying A" on the A30 - A35 and A40. The closest I can find is the 1951 - 1952 Chrysler Imperial. It's not identical, but pretty close especially when you consider erosion.

I think your battery may be a 18650, (4.2volts) Very common in torches and other high drain electrical gadgets. Believed to be responsible for setting a cargo plane alight and killing both pilots.
