Thanks so much for doing this! My favorite-ever Dio song. I have an amazing story about it too. I was 21 in 94 when this tour came to Houston. I was in the front row and kept hollering for this song and about the fourth song in Dio looked at me and said, "Later my friend". They ended up playing it! After the show I met him at the tour bus, he looked right at me when I walked up and said, "You know that wasn't in the setlist tonight but I could tell you were a real fan." Fast forward six years I got to interview him for an hour in his dressing room in New Orleans. At the end of the interview, I said, "I know you'll never remember this but in 94 on the "Strange Highways" tour I kept hollering for "Give Her the Gun" and you played it." He looked right at me and said, "Chester you know it wasn't in the setlist that night. I played it for you." He explained they were alternating that one and "Hollywood Black" and it was the night for "Hollywood Black" but he changed it. I have met almost all of my heroes in music and guys like Paul Stanely and Alice Cooper and Jon Schaffer were great but none like Dio.

Dio's heaviest album. This song is super raw. Dio cared deeply about and even helped put together a charity for street youth, abandoned, and abused kids. You can hear it in the lyrics of his other songs Invisible, Rock 'n' Roll Children, and especially the track Throw Away Children too.

Yeah T....this is my first time hearing this particular Dio song too. Well at least the studio cut anyway, because I saw him perform it live back in the 90s at the legendary Hammerjacks nightclub here in Baltimore, Maryland. That's the night that I had the blessing of meeting Ronnie and his wife Wendy. What a humble, friendly, and personable couple they were, spent about an hour talking with them. Super cool guy, no ego whatsoever, I'll never forget it, R.I.P. Ronnie. The lyrics are definitely a stark departure from his usual Wizards and Dragons writings. But the point is loud and clear. Can't say that I disagree with the message either. Harsh? Maybe. ....but. .....I guess that he felt that there's no redemption from doing something so sick, depraved and heinous, especially to his own daughter. And if left to proceed with his ways, he would do it again, possibly to a younger sibling or a friend, maybe her future child. The only permanent way to end the abuse. For good. Excellent track, and reaction as well, the look on your face when the context of the lyrics hit home was exactly what Ronnie intended when he wrote them. Dio was a lyrical master, and all of his songs are intelligent and thought provoking, sometimes painting otherworldly images in the minds of his listeners. Definitely one of a kind, never to be duplicated, truly a voice for the ages.... he is sorely missed from the metal world. As always, Peace and love from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A!

Avid dio fan. 1st time hearing this track, but from what I've come to love and understand about his music is that he paints a story with a clear picture. I'd be willing to bet that this track refers to a specific incident that fascinated him. In reference to other dio songs, I absolutely love his stuff. Rainbow in the dark, holy river, heaven and hell, die young, killing the dragon... are all some of my favorites of his... @@jasonrichardson1208 Agreed 💯%. Dehumanizer is by far Sabbath's most underrated & underappreciated album ever. No album has been as good as Dehumanizer and received less fanfare. Nearly every song is a straight masterpiece. From the opening Computer God, which sets the tone. After All (The Dead) - Heavy grinding jam Letters From Earth - the Dio Sabbath version of Into the Void (my opinion) 🔥 Master of Insanity - uptempo, melodic, doomsday theme 🔥 Sins of the Father - uptempo, blazing guitar, sick ass descending riff toward the end 🔥 Too Late - vocal masterpiece, thoughtful lyrics, sick ass guitar solo that goes on forever. 🔥 I - just a straight banger, Period. Possibly best overall song on the album. 🔥 Buried Alive - Heavy af. Intensity builds with each verse. 🔥 *It took a minute for Buried Alive to grow on me, but I fully appreciate it now that I'm older. If I had to pick one Dehumanizer song for T to react to, I think it would be either "I" or "Master of Insanity", but only because I believe those 2 would have broader appeal.

I always jam out to RJD. Ronnie always was on a level above anyone else. For me personally, there are no bad tracks when it comes to Ronnie. He painted so artfully, in lyrical imagery, whether it was in the DIO Band, in the Rainbow band, in Sabbath, and even in ELF there were budding elements of what was to come from Him in the aforementioned bands. I can never forgive the critics in the record business, first they berated Ronnie for "being a dinosaur, always singing about rainbows and wizards, why doesn't DIO ever sing about something else?" So, Ronnie kept that in mind, wrote songs that weren't about wizards and rainbows and what did those same critics do? "Oh look, DIO has dropped his sword! What happened to all the rainbows and wizards ?" I'd have told 'em all to have a frigging hike off a short pier for that crap they pulled. I love His heavier sound, but I am in the minority of the fanbase most likely. Then again, I adore anything Ronnie did, I even go hunt up the one time from the 80s when Ronnie did a take on Rainbow In The Dark for Budweiser. Yes, really! (it wasn't uncommon in the 80s, to do jingles by various artists for things. We had beer commercials with dogs. Look up Spudz Mackenzie or Alex from Strohs for examples) You really need to go find some of that DIO Doowop, don't have to do a reaction if you don't want, since the songs are usually less than three minutes in length. There's even a version of Mr. Misery Ronnie sings all in Italian, I will find a link, hold on : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIXQipV_q5xnhLM Yes, GHRG (Give Her The Gun) is intense, but Ronnie was very passionate about the horrors of child abuse and bringing awareness to it as often as possible. While Ronnie personally never endured abuse, but being from a close knit Italian American family, He clearly felt very strongly about it with regards to others who did and do endure it.

If you like to just jam out and not pay attention to the lyrics, try a band called Age of Nemesis. They are from Hungary and if I remember correctly, all their songs are recorded in both English and Hungarian. I heard one today in Hungarian and since I don't speak it, I had no idea what they're singing about, but it doesn't matter because they are just tearing it up musically. Also a Russian band called Aria that's all in Russian; no English. But crazy mad music. There is also another Hungarian band the name of which escapes me. I'll post it if I remember it. When I listen to these guys, I just think of the vocals as another instrument so the actual words don't matter.

JoeHell67 I don’t own Angry Machines either. I’m told it’s Dio’s “worst” album, which is odd because it’s the same guitarist as Strange Highways, and I LOVE Strange Highways.

@@josephbarr1659 Even Ronnie said that Angry Machines was a mistake. It was something experimental. Strange Highways was heavy. It was a vibe he carried over from the Dehumanizer album . It doesn't come close to being as good as Dehumanzier IMO.

@@larrym5120 Oh, yeah I totally agree with you about that. Strange Highways can't touch Dehumanizer, for sure. But then again, not many Dio albums can, IMO. To me, Dehumanizer is just THAT good. Speaking of which, I had a chance to see them on the Dehumanizer tour, and I blew it. Something I will regret for the rest of my life. Anyway, I'm not disrespecting Tracy G. His style is certainly a bit different than what most of us were accustomed to at the time, but there were several good songs off Strange Highways. I especially loved Evilution. As far as Angry Machines is concerned, all I will say is that nearly every band has at least one "stinker" album in their career, so I won't hold that against Dio. Heck, look at Sabbath. They had Forbidden, which was terrible.

Not everyone's cup of tea, I'll give you that. It's a steep departure from his usual style, and Tracy G has a very "raw" sound on guitar. *Funny note: Also from this album is one of my absolute favorites called "Evilution". When I first played it for my brother (also a tremendous Dio fan) he said "it sounds like it came straight out of the pits of Hell". 🤣👹😈
