Nice presentation of data.👍👍👍👍👍 I have been traveling to different parts of the world for work. I meet the local people and most of them Would love to settle down in US ... this is ground reality. I have lived in Europe and it's damn expensive. A McDonald burger is 2 to 3 times in other countries. Fine dining in Europe is only for wealthy. A 2800 sq feet of single family house in Toronto will cost you at least $1.5 and upwards. Car insurance in Canada is more than double of what we have in US. And if you are a nature lover like me then the entire US is full of National parks. Off course it is expensive to travel in US that's why Americans go to Mexico or other counties. But overall living in US for 32 years my take is Feel good and happy. Living within your means is the key to happy life even in Hell or Paradise. Professor do you live in Arlington, TX. I have been there several times to Arlington and Mansfield and have American friends who are big time farmers but not doing farming and have leased their land to oil firms.

Not so easy to live in America if someone's born in India and takes the merit based route (F1, H1B and then cycle ends due to discriminatory GC country caps for Employment). There is a hidden factor regarding Canada, Australia and Singapore. They have trade agreements with US which helps in getting a work authorization. Canadian citizens are eligible for TN visa, Singapore has H1B1 Singapore(5400 out of 65000 H1B visas) and Australian citizens have E-3 visa. So after getting citizenship in one of these countries, it will be much easier to work in US and then retire in above countries. These countries have free healthcare(Singapore also has private healthcare if needed) so you don't need to worry about your hospital bill. Education is also good. So instead of being stressed regarding visas in US you can work for maybe 10-20 years in US on different visas and then retire in these countries which have very high QoL.

I am sorry, but I disagree with this analysis. In my opinion most of the statistics/result are biased since the scale is tipped towards the US just on the basis of numbers. A city of 1000 will have more jobs than a city of 10 for example. So a fair analysis would be with a ratio of per million population per say. Having lived in the USA and Germany, I'd definitely prefer Germany in terms of quality of life, free education, lifestyle, excellent healthcare, job security, amazing travel avenues and the obvious direct path to naturalization if you decide to settle there. Not to forget, an environment conscious and smart population. Let's take simple things like commuting for example, here the public transit system is great and you do not need a car. Even grocery bags, no plastics!, I remember the days of 10s of plastic bags I get from a regular Walmart run! I have a lot more discussion points, but I would say at the end it all evens out and comes down to personal perception. I value certainty of variables outside my control (like healthcare, immigration topics, and being considered resident not just for 'Tax Purpose'!!!) p.s. Hello from a UTA alumni. Australian employers look for permanent residents (already there are plenty of people)and citizens than hiring a person, who’s on open work visa. Most of ICT jobs are outsourced to Indian tech giants like TCS and Infosys which leaves a small portion of ICT Jobs for which employers have to go with LMIA for hiring a international graduate. Furthermore, ICT and other white collar jobs are based only in metros like Sydney, Melbourne , and Brisbane, which makes job hunt a daunting task for most of the international students.

And you can get PR in Canada easily as compared to us after 3 years. So 3 years earnings in USA = 3x 100k = 300k In Canada, you can work forever after getting PR. So 70k x throughout your life = ? Thanks for such an informative and detailed video Professor 🙏 However, I would like to include one essential point and that’s the settlement. The USA is highly uncertain in terms of permanent settlement. There’s a strong reason why Australia and Canada attract so many international students. The number itself tells the whole story. Everyone knows US has better education and job opportunities, the only thing it lags is permanent residency. People want to settle down and live a quality life Canada and Australia provide high quality of life, no wonder I’ve never seen a US city in the list of top 10 most liveable cities in the world. Apparently you would always see Melbourne Sydney Adelaide, Vancouver Toronto Calgary in the list.

Ridhi Arora I agree Job’s are not the only source of income having a certainty and a status allows you to have access all the other benefits that the country have to offer which US clearly doesn’t and if we look at the statistics the population says everything , the lesser the population lesser the job in number but that doesn’t mean the job availability is less , I don’t think the main factor to look at is the total no of jobs in deciding if it is feasible to have a job in any of these countries instead what is important is to check the unemployment ratio and that will tell you everything and also the rules and restrictions that comes along with staying on a visa and having a permanent representation .

What about Job stability ? What about the ratio of international students entering to each country and the number of international students returning back to their homeland (within 7 years of graduation) ? That’ll give you a clear picture. Also, what about the average time to get a PR status in these countries ? What about Work life balance ? Australia and Canada top the charts and have the most livable cities in the world despite whatever numbers you’ve presented. Job opportunities will only be good enough when one can eventually and in a timely manner, settle in that country and have that peace of mind.

There are some hidden realities I think you have missed to highlight, it doesn't matter how big is America - if it is not serious on international student policy, uk, Australia and other countries are trying best to attract international students but USA is giving wrong signals by creating hassles for international students by its uncertain policies. Visa issues, H1B and other visa issues, statements like cancellation of OPT training for students etc. After investing the big amounts of loan and debts there is no guarantee of the returns. At least a masters student can get PR in canada after completing studies.

Dear Professor, I am a third generation American and I have spoken to my grandparents about their process immigrating here from India. My grandfather told me the American embassy wrote to him saying that the US needed engineers, and he picked up his green card on the day he landed in the US for the first time. While your data is correct that the US has more job opportunities, I think there are several important factors that you left out that would make the other countries look more attractive in comparison. I have watched enough of your videos to understand that getting a work permit in the US as an immigrant is much less simple than the process my grandfather went through to pickup his greencard at the airport. My grandfather did not even have a job offer when he immigrated. Thus, the number of foreign born professionals is inflated because it contains people like my grandfather who immigrated when there were less restrictions than there are today. The old immigration system is not at all representative of the current system. Additionally, the US might have more universities, but American universities also thrive on the Australian model of charging foreign students more money. US citizens are eligible for government subsidized loans and university financial aid packages are more generous for American students. Due to the high taxes and social-democratic governments of the other countries, the cost of an education is much cheaper in Europe/Canada. This is an important selling point for any student, especially ones who might not want to take on lots of debt. This is also useful to know because having an American degree does not provide you preferential treatment in the green card/visa process. The H1B lottery doesn't discriminate between American and Australian or even Indian degrees for that matter. Finally, in countries such as Australia and the UK , having a degree from that university in country provides a direct path to permanent residency and eventually citizenship. While there are more jobs in the US, many international students are limited by their lack of work authorization so having more jobs isn't really useful to an international student that can't legally take them. In the UK, as a result of Brexit policy changes any graduate from a UK university at a bachelor's or higher level can legally work any job for 2 years after graduation, without restriction on pay or industry. Australia has a points based immigration system, so anyone who speaks English and works in an occupation deemed needed by the Australian immigration authority will qualify for enough points for automatic permanent residency without any time spent in the country. There is no doubt that the US is a great country for immigrants, I just think your video highlights the advantages of the US without paying as much attention to the advantages of other counties.
@gulammohiddin57474 жыл бұрын
Your comment is on point. I am one of those students who is facing difficulty getting a job because of my F1 visa status. Contract jobs are not easy to get if your visa status is F1, also most Full time jobs turn your application down when they come to know the visa status. Most contract jobs even mention that they only prefer candidate with a Greencard or US citizen in their job postings. This is a common sight since the current govt has started to vilify immigrant workers for the job losses of American citizens. Most students end up in some consultancy where their experience is faked to procure a contract job and those consultancies will take advantage of the student visa status to underpay their employees. This goes on until you get your H1b visa. Many companies just don't want to get involved in the immigration paperwork coz it costs money to apply for the visa status change. If US can't provide a hassle-free continuous valid work status to the students who spend a fortune in US education then there is no point for the struggle. Best bet for students is to look for a country where they don't have to spend a fortune on education and have above average job prospects..

Very many Americans have more than one job to make do. How did you take that into account in your comparisons? And you mentioned that many of the jobs in the US have very low qualifications and probably earn very little. Do they still have benefits like healthcare like every job in Europe? Why should that kind of job be of interest for somebody who went to college?

Been watching your videos. You make some great points but you miss out a a very important one. In canada you can easily obtain PR then citizenship and then move to the US as a Canadian citizen under the TN visa which way way easier to obtain than H1B. Also you can freeely travel to the US (as a visitor) as a Canadian without even needing a visa. Lots of my friends came to canada as international students became citizens and are now working in the US. Now yes, green card is still a long wait (if you were born in india) but you can live your entire life on TN visa in US which is very easy to renew than H1B.

This analysis is flawed despite coming to sound conclusion. Raw amount of population doesn’t mean anything, if that’s the case. Go live in India or China. Same with amount of people employed, that’s a factor of the population, a better stat is employed vs total population (or active workforce). All stats must be applied with consideration to the population of the nation in question and other factors that influence the job market and economy.

Thanks for sharing this. I see some people disputing the data but I think the intent of this was just to point out the general trend of things. Immigration/settlement are important things that these 'other' countries offer but just like in a game of poker, you play a hand that you get right! At a young age, with education from a reputed american university, I am okay with risking a few things for a chance to get better global exposure. IMO it's when you're in your thirties when settlement starts to become more important. Hopefully by that time you have a good enough global network that you can find a job in countries that offer an easier path to permanent residence. Again, like a game of poker, if you know how to play your cards right.

Please don't blame only Australia. We all know that US also treats their education as a business. It is not unknown that the US education is the costliest among all. Recently, I forget the exact name, may be UTD proudly announced they can manage to provide unlimited number of admission. Now more number of jobs doesn't mean more opportunities. How many out of those 5 millions are allowed to hire international students? Due to the H-1B visa issues, many companies are shifting towards Canada, Ireland etc.

Professor. Although I am 58 years of age I always do watch your videos for my inclination to know about the current scenario in education abroad, employment opportunities and subsequently settling in for the gen next. I do always share your videos with my children for sheer goldmine of information you share. As my daughter has already decided to move to Australia but due to covid situation plans got delayed for her. However my son wants to pursue MBA in finance post his MCOM degree from Mumbai, so this video will definitely help him and us to decide where to go. But still dilemma is still in play as to PR and settling down in USA Canada UK or Australia. Nobody wants to come back to India post spending time and sizable money in the country. I must say that I was very much against sending him to USA after watching your earlier videos where you have honestly said that PR and citizenship is 15 to 20 years and 200 hundred years away. On a lighter note, I am not holding you responsible. Ha ha ha . You are thorough gentleman and an honest person who wants to help fellow humans. God bless you. Stay safe. We have visited USA and enjoyed the country site too. It's a wonderful country. Next time if we visit I will definitely say hello to you. Good night.

one thing of India will beat all this advantages of USA, canada, Australia, UK and germany. and that is "aatma gyan". gyan of our real self and how this universe govern and law of karma.... only in India your kids will get real understanding of life... and in all other countries there is materialistic life. People are less developed in these countries than india in terms of soul development. They are living in illusion. and neglecting rebirth and law of karma. this only thing is beating all luxuries. bcoz suspence is that "Happiness" is in our vision (in आत्मा-our real self)... not in any material of this world

A very good description but sir, i believe there are lots of things to consider. You are using absolute numbers for jobs n others. If u use % or Ratio, its more relevant. Also Pls consider Pay differences, unemployment differences. I am not sure how true is fact but i heard if someone earns below $120,000 in Palo alto, its close to poverty line. Better thing to see is to use PPE tool which shows that 15 lacs in bangalore is close to 100,000 USD in USA and relevant to other countries. Overall, it was very interesting. Thanks for sharing

But being honest the main issue is settling down also, as at the end that's the main goal. If I come to USA I might get a better paying job, but I'll have to think before buying a house like you said in other video, starring your own business is difficult and there are high chances of me moving back to India than any other country, which means a big deal when u end up paying so much for the university fees.
