Honestly to me, for behind the scenes revolations, David Arquette asking Booker about the world title was a real eye opener. You could tell it was all down hill from there.

Many answer about "who killed WCW" after I watch that documenter series : - AOL Time Warner - Turner Corporate - Turner Sports - Brad Siegel (Kevin Nash mentioned him) but Brad Siegel says "WCW killed itself" - Eric Bischoff - Vince Russo - Vince Russo says "business decision is killed WCW" - Hulk Hogan?

Weird Hogan said it was a last minute decision the evening of the event originally it was Sting. He was approached when the outsiders were gaining steam and he turned it down initially. So Hulk says they came to him with the idea and Bishoff said it was Hogans idea.
@Hyde_Hill

Hogan also said he said he needed to turn heel years before on the Rogan podcast which is poppy cock. Your timeline is the correct one, they left some stuff off the cutting room floor here. As Bischoff was only there with Hogan to ask him again to be the third man.

There is a comment during the show that stuck with me 'Death by a thousand cuts'. Some people like to point to a single moment or a single person, when in reality it was a bunch of different people clashing, including the executives who were battling against it from day one in a way that I feel that a lot of people didn't know about, along with a bunch of decisions and moments creative wise by those people that just added up to 'Death by a thousand cuts'

Bischoff actually wanted to turn Heel earlier, but Hogan said no. Thunder was Ted Turner's idea. Bischoff couldn't say no. When Bischoff went to TBS, they said they didn't have the funds to spare for the show. So he had no choice. If you haven't watched it, Bre actually admits that Goldberg warned him about the kick & they show 2 angles. In the 2nd angle you can see Bret get his hand up to block the kick. Bret knew exactly what was going on.

good list. I would bump Russon up though. When Russon came in during Oct '99, WCW declined a lot but they still had a great roster of talent and needed to rebuild. Russo continued to burnout fans with his crash TV and he did a lot of other damage especially when he returned in April of 2000. He got wrestlers hurt with all the stunts, the flip flopping storylines made the wrestlers not care. He also only cared about ratings as he said. He ticked off a lot of advertisers and people supporting live shows. He didn't care about ticket sales and he said so in the documentary. He did help a few lower tier wrestlers get more screen time and it wasn't in great shape when he got the book. I just think that it could have still been salvaged even if they couldn't top WWF at the time

What else would you have done in that situation? You definitely can point out Bret's stubbornness,but at the end of the day he went to WCW,because he didn't have a better option for himself. That's why I think he is especially bitter about WCW. He wanted to stay with WWE forever, but was forced to go to WCW,where he knew he would be wasted and he definitely was. I would be bitter as well

Something briefly mentioned was Ted Turner lost control of his Turner assets as the company grew due to mergers. Along with WCW, his other "toys" like the Braves and Hawks were also sold. The local TBS channel in Atlanta was also sold and TBS became a cable only channel. It is impossible to own private interests in a public company as more and more shareholders come in.

Vince McMahon is smarter than that. He got close to ECW to kill it. He got to get close to their talent, and when TNN made the deal with ECW, Vince McMahon had TNN replace ECW with WWF Raw. Vince McMahon had people in the inside screwing WCW. WWF took top ECW talent, and use that fan base to help him beat WCW in the ratings. Every time ECW got a talent, & let them shine, Vince McMahon would snatch them. He took Austin, Foley & Lita from Paul Heyman. If Heyman had the Money he could've ruled wrestling. He just needed to make the adjustments the WWF and WCW were trying to do. Not like Vince Russo, if you watch the Documentary, he did lots of trash TV. And getting the Title right after Arguette had it, hurt the lineage of the WCW Titled even further.

Uh no.... Towards the end of WCW, they was struggling to the point where they had Vince Russo & David Arquette win their World title. That had nothing to do with Vince McMahon. WCW was on the decline at that point.

Man y’all still believe that conspiracy of McMahon sending Russo to kill WCW. Here’s the problem with that claim, WCW was already struggling and on their deathbed before Vince bought it. Yes he ruined a lot of the talent there because he’s a petty and egotistical pos but WCW already had gone downhill once the finger poke of doom and Warriors return happened.

@@dmercy8477 Maybe it could've done better had Russo not gone there. He did too much trash TV. Even though I think if someone helped McMahon, it could've been anyone. Nash, Hogan, even Bischoff. They did their stuff there, but the booking Nash did, the money that was thrown away, & the chaos the wrestlers caused, politics & so much more.

Let’s he honest , nitros ratings are what raw was getting in the late 00’s, WCW died because of a corporate merger . The huge losses were a shifting of corporate finance , you cannot tell me WCW realistically lost more money in 2000 compared to WCW in 91,92,93 who didn’t draw at all

Who Killed WCW, in my opinion, is probably one of Vice’s weakest docuseries. I might watch the Bash At The Beach DSOTR episode over Who Killed WCW. Nobody would ever listen to who killed the company. It’s AOL Time Warner’s bigwigs and Jamie Kellner were the guys responsible for killing the company. Everyone (outside of Bischoff, Bret Hart, Booker T, Sharmell, and DDP) were nothing but liars. Vince Russo should never work for wrestling company again.

The merger killed wcw, if they wanted it, they would have kept it. If rich people liked wrestling, wcw would have went on. But truthfully they don't. Wealthy people could have taken wcw public just like vince took the wwf public and made money hand over fist

When Vince said he was better than 80% of the roster…he meant as a performer…not as a talent in the ring. And I can’t disagree with him. Majority of the wrestlers at the time and the majority of the wrestlers in wrestling today have no character and can’t cut a promo to save their lives. Look at Bayley. Y’all gas her up and she’s a terrible promo. But at least she can put on 5 star fake matches tho😂

I say what killed WCW was when Crockett sold it. They were completely devoted to pro wrestling. After that, it was all built on a fractured foundation.
