Shocking Story: Corporate Bullying or Unfortunate Circumstances? Brinscall Moors in Lancashire used to be home to 50 small but thriving farms packed into an area of just 5 square miles. Families worked the land for decades through some of the harshest conditions, but that was all about to change. A typhoid breakout in the South East of England led to some dramatic changes.
As each family left, the authorities tore their farms to the ground to avoid any reoccupation!!
1960 none of the farms were occupied.
Were the families driven out on purpose by the authorities or were they simply victims of circumstance? You can decide, but in this episode we go for an explore and see what we can find of the farms today.

Another really interesting video, you guys are smashing it. Great to learn about long-lost local history and the drone footage really adds to the high quantity production of your videos. Keep it up 👍

You sure are finding some really forgotten and off the beaten path places! Wonderful to see that patina over everything.

Thanks for that! It was quite the patina but then with so little sunlight reaching the places due to the tree cover we suppose moss will take over. 👍

Hi Sue and Elliot, thank you for sharing your latest vlog. Really enjoy watching. I'm with Sue, I don't like ultra modern flat roof houses 🏘️ they have there place but not in the middle of an old village. It's a shame the paper mill burnt down. It's also a shame to see it left in that state. Thanks once again for taking us along. Take care and stay safe. ATB.

Thanks Yvonne. Withnell Fold is lovely, we’re really pleased we made the effort to go back and have an explore. As for the mill it’s a crying shame, such a history and now look at it! Thanks again 😍💃🕺🏽

Dear Elliott and Sue, You guys out did yourselves with this video, two thumbs up for the work and adventure. What a life the residence must have lived. Such a hard life never knowing and always relying on one another. Sue, having Charlie must provide you with some comfort at times of need. Hope you take him for walks lol. When we read, or hear, of families, in the 1800s or 1700s, that have a dozen or more children, it can be overwhelming to imagine. Remember that in those days infant mortality was common and children did die as well for different reasons. In addition to that it was not uncommon for men to have had two or three wives, not all at once, because women would die during child birth. Therefore if a family truly did have a dozen little humans they could have come from more than one wife/mother. Can't wait for next weeks adventure. Mark Alberta, Canada

Hey Mark - thank you for that, your comments and encouragement are appreciated! We didn’t know what about the wives situation, although we were aware of the broader ‘have lots of kids so at least some survive’ theory. Hope all is well all the way over in Alberta and the snow is starting to subside? Thanks again 👍

I just thought of something, with all of those families where was the local church and churchyard/graveyard?? We have sunny skies and + temperatures for the next week. Cabin fever is setting in bad lol. Big hugs to both of you Mark@@ExploreTheUK1

Thanks Mark. There are two churches we think, both at the top of the village so a bit of a stretch. You don’t think they could have had their own mini hidden cemetery do you?

Good afternoon fellow Josh owners, great video as always, well done. Whoever designed that Cathedral or whatever it was clearly had a sense of humour. On all the towers is the same thing as you put on chicken legs when you put it in the oven. Those white paper things with the frilly tops. Also, congrats on getting damn near 1000 subs on this channel. Take care, Peter. x

One of my direct ancestors came from there. In the 1841 census the family are at "Moor Edge", one of the Lost Farms. A couple of entries away at Rattan Clough is another family of the same surname. Both families were headed by weavers called Thomas Bennett who were aged 55-59. In the 1871 census my Ralph Bennett was in Bolton, and his place of birth is written "Brinscow", which is exactly how the locals would have said it!

Oh wow, how cool! It must be very satisfying to have been able to trace that trail of family history? They managed a decent old stint age wise especially for the era?? We didn’t know about “Brinscow”!

@@ExploreTheUK1 My Thomas Bennet had moved across the moor to Anderton by 1851, then headed towards Bolton. Ralph was a printer - of cloth - and there were printing works all over. The works at Brinscall were one such. He never married my ggg grandmother, but is named on my gg grandmother's marriage, by which time Ralph was living in Coppull, and working in the print works at Birkacre.

90 years old and still farming wow. Hard life and especially with twelve kids a farm 🚜 and farmer husband to care for, can't be a nice life back then. Trevor the done well he flies good nice footage. Is Sue going to knit a nice coat for Charlie sorry couldn't resist... So green in that area such a boggy environment its do wet everywhere after so much rain. Didn't see the plane lol. 😊 Those farm building ruins were still viewable. Wonder if they used to have the animals on the lower floor of the house and the family would live upper level they'd get the warmth from the animals rising to the upper living part then. Just s thought. I love these videos so educational... Kev the first and only brinklow kayaker😂😂😂😂😂

Just remembered seeing your pictures after your mountain bike accident.... So young, looking ..... Yup weve discussed before ... My wife is glad i dont ride like a mad man on the black trails and jumps etc i had too many injuries but the collar bone injury put an end to the risky stuff. Kayaking is safer but it breaks your back carrying transporting kayak, and you can drown. 😮 Still got my road bike stork and my OnOne single speed. Might wear my planet X beanie hat for my next video 😅😅😅😅😅 Kev

Not sure Simon although some viewers have ancestors there and have managed to check back through records and see that their families were on certain plots at certain points in time which is very cool indeed!!
