When they let me collect things I had to do it in a mad dash and could only take 1 bag and couldn't go into the areas with water. I just do not understand the weirdly aggressive comments like yours. If it hasn't happened to you, don't judge. Even if it has happened to you, no two situations are alike. She cared enough to try and save it, paying for this service knowing it might not work out so yea, she cared.

I buy such bags all the time and cleaning them is not as hard as most think it is. Most of those bags survive very well in a washing machine on a gentle cycle and then I soften the leather by kneading it. If machine wash is not possible then vinegar works very well removing the mould and the odour, the lining can be pulled out to have a hand wash by soap and once the bag is dry (usually several days to a few weeks) I apply conditioner and color leather care. Cheap, works and no "secret" products.

@@BitzTrix I do this ONLY outside, in gloves and do my best not to inhale it, always consider the wind directions well. I take a cloth, wet it with vinegar and wipe the leather well including all the crevices and seams - this is where mould loves to live. Same with the lining. Then I dry the bag for days (if it is very hot outside) or for weeks if needed. The shape needs to be supported, consider the straps to be over some sort of wide pipe so they do not get any traces. Fill the bag with papers (I use ads from shops) so the shape is supported better. Or you can use lemon juice instead if you prefer and have access to a lot of cheap or free lemons.

@@lilo2226 Some of the bags I washed this way looked better after the wash :) It takes a bit of effort to get them back to shape but it is possible, just need to use common sense, nothing extraordinary. BTW, my wife uses one of those bags and she loves it.

@@HandbagClinicOfficial I've done this with several leather bags. I dry thoroughly while stuffed with towels for shaping and then condition it. They have all turned out great. No water marks. Some previous water marks even faded a bit although they didn't disappear which is what I hoped for.
