A few things that have helped to control my hair fall include: (1) I quit wearing ponytails because it causes tension breakage. (2) I started massaging my hair and scalp twice a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while bending over & holding my head upside down to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Covering my head while moving out to safeguard my hair from pollution. (4) Using mild shampoo again from liittleextra only to cleanse my hair.

Hey Rob, first off big fan of the work you’re doing. Was curious what you think of ice cold showers on the scalp. Cold showers have so many benefits (specifically increasing circulation and increasing lymph drainage), but I couldn’t find any research on the scalp specifically. The reason I think the scalp might be different here is because the scalps circulation is relatively different than the rest of the body plus we know that the scalp can calcify and we don’t necessarily know why. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on cold showers and if they might be a beneficial adjunct with other therapies. Thank you.
@PerfectHairHealth

Thanks! I’m sure cold exposure (in the right settings) has some positive endocrine-related effects, particularly in protecting or normalizing testosterone. I don’t think cold showers should be used as a frontline therapeutic for any hair loss disorder, but I certainly don’t think they’ll hurt.

@@PerfectHairHealth just read, thanks. So, inconclusive regarding efficacy in standalone users and needle-depth. I see it suggests 0.6-0.8mm needle-depth, but if I'm reading correctly, suggests that the dermapen can be set to accurately administer that whereas the roller needs greater needle depth to achieve the same penetration. Is that correct? Also, it says that 1.5mm can damage the bulb, which is what I've been using with Dermapen upon other channels recommendations. That doesn't sound good. What kind of damage are we talking about exactly? Is the damage reversible?
@PerfectHairHealth
@PerfectHairHealth 2 жыл бұрын
@@machietheapachie7214 That’s correct! However, this is just our summary and interpretation of the data. When I spoke with Dr. Rassman, he said he believes that damaging the bulge is beneficial to growth. So, there’s a lot of debate here and without better studies we won’t have clear answers. I wouldn’t worry about any damage from a 1.5 mm needle length using an automated pen. Two of the best designed studies used that setup (and sometimes even longer needles) and saw improvements in their microneedling only group with no adverse events related to scarring.

@@PerfectHairHealth appreciate the engagement Rob, I'm sure I'm one of many pestering you for answers lol. Do you think continuing with microneedling can't hurt either way so, and can at worst be mildly beneficial? I'm 42 with arguably a Norwood 1-2, so holding on pretty good naturally. My beard growth is strong plus other indicators suggesting I've adequate DHT levels in my skin, but seem fairly resilient on the scalp so perhaps I'm lucky in that my follicles aren't that sensitive. That said, my scalp is becoming evermore visible under light and when wet, and in a diffuse way rather than the classic horseshoe pattern. I've ruled out nutrition deficiency. That still sounds like AA/DHT or combination? I've also subclinical hypothyroidism but my body hair/eyebrows etc aren't affected so don't think it's that. Thanks bro, you're a great help

I've come to find that protein is actually lacking in many developed world diets. For example someone goes to mcdonalds and eats a large big mac menu and maybe an ice cream, this meal can have up to 2000kcal and at least about 1400 (depending on the options) and just 25g of protein, most of these calories come from simple refined carbs. The WHO points to 0.8g of protein per Kg of bodyweight as a dietary recommendation, for an average American male (90Kg) this comes to 72g of protein. Salads are now all the rage and most of them have even less protein. Since I've increased my protein intake, decreased my weight and took MSM (might be related or not, I took it for joint health not hair) my hair started to regrow and my overall health improved tremendously, I had migraines every other day and no longer do. Not everyone is the same and all that, but, with insufficient protein the body doesn't have enough for everything so something has to go. In the developing world you have famines but not necessarily a bad ratio of protein to kcal intake like in many western diets. Also I don't know if in terms of genetics there will be different protein requirements, but it's not hard to fathom that over thousands of years the tribes that inhabited places with abundant animals to kill and eat might've started to rely slightly more on a stable supply of protein.
@soez_strg6166
@soez_strg6166 Жыл бұрын
Completely false lol "In the developing world you have famines but not necessarily a bad ratio of protein to kcal intake like in many western diets" Why do incels nowadays say stuff like this? You have no clue about the third world. Many countries still face protein deficiency as huge issue such as india. In fact the netherlands are atm the worlds tallest country due to their high protein intake. This will change in the future as many other countries still aren't rich enough so their citizens cant eat enough protein. Also, those tribes you are talking about were all midgets due to their low protein intake. Basically, you made yourself sick by eating like a moron and then fixed it by eating slightly less unhealthy and now you think you can give advice and make stuff up?

Telogen to anagen can take 4-10 weeks but that doesn’t account for the length of time it takes for the follicle to produce visible hair. In any case, finasteride has demonstrated hair count improvements as quickly as 3 months in clinical studies. So, that’s probably close to the answer!

@PerfectHairHealth
@PerfectHairHealth 2 жыл бұрын
Cosmetic degrees of shedding from minoxidil generally only occurs in 15-20% of users, and it's typically most noticeable in the first 1-3 months and then diminishes as hair cycles become synchronized and new growth occurs. While data are far less robust, the general consensus is that massaging shouldn't elicit big sheds either. If this is happening, I think a far better approach is to taper your intensity or switch to minoxidil + microneedling. Have you considered finasteride and/or other DHT reducers?

If hair loss is due to high cortisol, do you still think nutrition cannot help?
@PerfectHairHealth
@PerfectHairHealth 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what type(s) of hair loss you're facing. If it's androgenic alopecia, addressing cortisol should - in nearly all cases - be a secondary target to androgens. If you're dealing with bouts of telogen effluvium that happens to strongly associate with micronutrient imbalances, poor sleep, traumatic life events, significant stress, etc. - that's when targeting cortisol is probably most therapeutic.

@PerfectHairHealth
@PerfectHairHealth 2 жыл бұрын
If the white bulbs are shaped like circles and not rectangles, this suggests the hairs are telogen hairs and that they properly cycled from anagen to catagen to telogen. If they existed the hair shaft prematurely, we'd expect to see no bulbs, a rectangular bulb, or disorganized debris surrounding the base of the hair strand. My guess is that this is one of two things: (1) The progression of AGA (as AGA leads to a shortened hair cycle. In this case, you might need stronger treatments. (2) Chronic telogen effluvium in addition to AGA - which could be the result of dozens of things.

Hi Rob, is there anything to be said about the quality of protein affecting hair loss? I've heard on a vegan Diet, vegan protein sources just don't have the same effects as animal sources of protein. Do you believe a vegan diet that meets sufficient levels of Protein, would be harmful for hair loss?
@soez_strg6166
@soez_strg6166 Жыл бұрын
Nah, if anything a vegan diet is better for hairloss due to more nutrients and anti oxidants. You will only run into problems if your protein is too low for extended periods of times.

I have a question about those studies that you cite on your videos regarding specific Vitamins and/or Vitamin supplements. . Are the studies done with organic, food based concentrations of said vitamins or are the studies done with synthetic vitamins made in a lab? Because man made, synthetic Vitamins have a vastly different effect on human beings than food based concentrations of Vitamins do. For example, Ascorbic Acid, although called by many people and doctors, Vitamin C, it really isn't and it is toxic to human beings. ALL synthetic Vitamins, which most people take, are not really good for you. So, giving large doses to people in a study will not give a positive result. Any study on say, for example, "Vitamin C", that is done with Ascorbic Acid, is not a real Vitamin C study. It has to be done with actual Vitamin C as it is found in nature. In an organic, natural form with all of its components and not a synthetic, isolated component on Vitamin C which Ascorbic Acid actually is. And Ascorbic Acid is made from GMO corn. Not a healthy source to be getting a nutrient from. Synthetic, isolated nutrients, like Ascorbic Acid, lack the co factors that natural foods and organic concentrations of Vitamins have in them that help the body absorb the benefits of the Vitamins. And again, this is just one example of what I am talking about. www.healthline.com/nutrition/synthetic-vs-natural-nutrients#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3

Rob, I agree with your skepticism in virtually all of these recommendations, however, you seem to be comparing bioavailability of food nutrients with synthetic supplemental variants. This seems intellectually dishonest. For instance, the vitamin A actually obtained through eating sweet potato is going to yield much better absorbtion than a synthetic counterpart, and it would take multitudes of that synthetic counterpart to equal the same bioavailable yield as the sweet potato. Seems pertinent to the diacussion.

I’m not as bullish on this as others, but I’m always happy to revise my opinion in light of new evidence. There are many ways to lower DHT: reducing free testosterone, inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, blocking androgen receptors, increasing DHT metabolism…. Sulforaphane targets that last possibility. There is evidence in mouse models that this can lower DHT, but we’ve yet to see a study (to my knowledge) in humans. To be clear - the absence of evidence does not imply evidence against something. I just don’t have an official opinion until I can see more data.

Hey Rob - I’ve been looking into onion and garlic juice for a long while. Many cultures across the board recommend it for hairloss. There’s an older guy who documented years of use with an Onion, Garlic, ACV and olive oil mix for years on his channel. Search Stephen onion juice, he doesn’t post anymore. He saw results with his mix after three months I believe and anyone can make it. I tried it for two weeks but it was too smelly to function in society and quit. Finding people who are willing to apply it long term are rare, perhaps you could make a study on it! Another point which is speculation. Asian cultures and soy. Asian men consume many times the amount of soy as Men from the west. Also testosterone levels are lower(there’s a study on Korean Swedish men to verify that), and anecdotally prostate size is generally smaller. As a person who lived in Asia for ten years I can attest balding rates in men are much lower, but it’s also documented. I believe soy products lower libido which in turn lowers ejaculation frequency creating a better environment for hair growth. Finasteride has a similar mechanism believe. The Taoist books have said for centuries that excess ejaculation is the root cause of balding, so perhaps foods that reduce libido are going to be of beneficial effect. More evidence the studies in Korean eunuchs showed that no Eunuch ever suffered from MPB. No prostate no hairloss it seems. This is perhaps why women don’t bald in this way….Sorry for the mess of words, I get a lot of value from your videos.

It seems like you're not worried about lowering androgens, is that correct? Because if so, why not try a 5-ar inhibitor like finasteride? If you can handle it, it's one of the best hair loss drugs on the market. Also there are better ways to fight hair loss naturally than onion juice. There are methods that have way more scientific backing. Things like standardized scalp massages and microneedling. You can also do things like getting botox injections, or use ketoconazole shampoo. These are not natural of course, but they're not finasteride (if that's something you're concerned about). So why not give these things a try before stuff like onion juice? I'm not saying onion juice couldn't be a potential treatment. You never know, maybe onion juice could have 5-ar inhibition properties. But we'll never know until we study it. So I'm not discounting your theory, I'm just saying that the scientific literature seems lacking in that area as for now.

@@fruitjuice5672 Hello there and thank you for your thoughtful response. I think perhaps onion juice works in a similar way to minoxidil rather than finasteride. A vasilidator rather than a 5ar inhibiter. At least from what I’ve read. Yes I am quite hesitant to take Finasteride. If there is a possibility to use a natural remedy then I would like to find it. I don’t think we understand the long term consequences of Finasteride deeply enough. At least not to the level that I’d start taking it myself. A low libido is not a good thing, for an organism. There are studies on low libido and mortality that concluded people with lower libido live significantly shorter lives. Libido is a powerful life force, I would exercise caution in suppressing it but you should research it and draw your own conclusions. There are also published studies that support onion juice’s ability so stimulate hair growth I believe. This also needs more research. In that sense I’m happy to be a guinea pig. If the borders open up again I am thinking about going to Turkey for a hair transplant. Much appreciate your genuine concern and advice. Thank you again 🙏

@@hellohello-rd1vr No problem, man! Happy to help. About onion juice being a vadodilator, this isn't really the mechanism of action in minoxidil. In truth, the mechanism of minoxidil still remains quite elusive. As far as I know, there are some theories about it but nothing conclusive just yet. Vasodilation may be a part of it, but it's probably not the full story. I'd say that finasteride is quite safe for most people. As long as you don't have some sort of mental disorder, you should be fine. Even if you do, there's a high chance of you being fine still. Sure, there's always a risk of side effects. But people blow the side effects the way out of proportion online. I'll reiterate. If you want to go down the natural route, I would suggest standardized scalp massages, microneedling, and possibly Botox injections (in the scalp perimeter muscles).

@@hellohello-rd1vr finasteride does not necessarily lower your libido. It's not like you take finasteride and your libido is automatically going to vanish. Anyway, there are different strategies to reduce side effects from finasteride if you happen to develop side effects.
