Im female and started to lose my hair at the age of 17, the hairloss was so hard that my relatives noticed I didn't have thick hair anymore and the reason was unknown. I didn't take any vitamins at that time, I always thought it because of the puberty then coz of pregnancy, but after 20years I have made a blood test. It has shown that i have very low d3 and iron. My daughter started also lose her hair at the age of 10,and the doctors say that her blood test is excellent. She lose hair, coz of spring))) So now this video helped me to understand what is the real reason for our hairloss. Dr.Berg, thank you!

My theory on why Vitamin D works to stop hair loss is due to Calcium. Vitamin D increases the absorption of Calcium by 20x. I took 10,000 IU per day for 5 months and it did nothing. Its only when i started increasing my calcium intake that my hair stopped shedding. Calcium is imperative for healthy hair growth as : It aids hormone and enzyme secretion, including biotin enzymes and androgen hormones responsible for healthy hair growth. It also helps in absorption of iron which is strongly associated with healthy hair.

@@Toronto4evr you shouldn’t be really supplementing calcium unless you show that you are calcium deficient on your blood test. A healthy diet gives sufficient amounts of the calcium our body needs any excess will end up in places you don’t want calcium to go to like your arteries. That’s why we have to take K2 and Magnesium to make sure the Calcium goes into our bones and not anywhere else. Lot of doctors are stepping back from prescribing calcium as our diet these days is plentiful in calcium. Any excess of any vitamin is not good except for vitamin D3.

So basically you need vitamin D3 and magnesium. In France where I live the vitamin D3 comes in oil form in a glass dropper bottle. Being fat soluble it actually works, I couldn’t find the same type in the UK or the states. Be careful what supplements you take, some won’t actually work.

As a fellow health KZbinr, I just wanted to commend you on this insightful video, Dr. Berg! The connection between vitamin D and autoimmune diseases, particularly in relation to hair loss, is often overlooked in discussions about hair health. It's fascinating how many people are unaware that hair follicles are living structures and that their health is influenced by various nutrients. Your emphasis on the importance of the right blood tests to identify deficiencies is crucial. Many individuals may not realize that conditions like alopecia can be linked to nutrient imbalances, and your video sheds light on this important aspect. Additionally, I appreciate your mention of magnesium's role in enzyme function related to hair health. It’s a reminder that a holistic approach to nutrition can significantly impact our overall well-being, including hair growth. For anyone watching, I encourage you to not only consider the tests mentioned but also to consult with a healthcare professional to interpret results accurately. Thank you for sharing this valuable information, and I look forward to more content that empowers viewers to take charge of their health!

I started losing all my hair slowly at 18, and I'm much older now, so I was virtually bald when I started using a laser comb on combination with 10,000 IU vitamin d3 daily and the difference is shocking. You’re almost 60 with a healthy head of dark hair. You definitely know what you’re talking about by example. I know childhood classmates that started having receding hairlines in their late 20s and 30s. My dad has been trying to grow back hair in the center of his head. As far as know we don't replace iron deficiency by taking Iron but LACTOFERRIN (Many studies show that there is a consistent relationship between iron levels and chronic diseases, etc.) 2nd. I am 39 and I had a lot of hair loss just during the last 6 to 9 months. 8 month ago I did a blood test and I noticed that my ferritine (458) was too high (Minimum: 30.0 | Maximum: 400.0), also my Iron saturation (50) was too high (Minimum: 20.0 | Maximum: 40.0) but at that time I did not know about the correlation of that to my hair loss. Last week I got my vitamin D tested and it was very low (8 ng/mL). now I can understand the correlation. Thank you Dr Berg!

There are a whole host of factors that go into every system in our bodies. Many times we are deficient in one aspect in relationship to a specific system. So in your case, iron was playing a role in your hair loss. I don't think taking vit d3 daily had anything to do with your issue. Vit D3 is vital in preventing a whole cascade of issues from alopecia to cancer to osteoporosis. But we cannot rely solely upon the reported blood levels, because it is in 2 very different systems.

ChatGPT is strongly against taking 10k units (not to mention 20k units) of vitamin D daily: While sun exposure can lead to the body producing large amounts of vitamin D, it doesn't work in the same way as taking supplements. Your body has a natural regulation mechanism that prevents it from producing excessive vitamin D from the sun. So even if you're in the sun for long periods, your body will only produce as much vitamin D as it needs, then stop. In contrast, supplements don't have this natural limit, which is why taking too much vitamin D in supplement form can lead to toxicity. Spending a lot of time outdoors isn't harmful in terms of vitamin D production, as your body self-regulates. However, you should still take precautions to avoid sunburn and overexposure to UV rays, which can increase the risk of skin cancer.

But nothing saved me from going almost bald! Now I'm taking Iron and within a month I've noticed a drastic changes, my hair falling is now almost 0. 10-15 shedding per day when combing hair. Interesting video and a lot of good points are brought up. There's no doubt a vitamin D3 deficiency could be the cause of many symptoms and disorders like hair loss...among many, many other causes (like shampoo with high levels of sulfates and parabens or fluoride in the water). When recommending or starting a magnesium supplement regiment, one should check into what type of or combination of magnesium you should take. There is something like 6 or 7 different types of magnesium and it's important to know which one does what and how with some types not being recommended at all.

You could use a juicer or just cut an onion in half, score it with a blade, squeeze and put the onion directly to the skin until you've exhausted it. I left the juice on on for ages if I wasn't going out, but the advice I saw was wash off after 20 mins. Really good video! I will be sharing this with all my hair fall friends. I did notice you mentioned dry hair associated with low zinc but previously you have mentioned oily hair. Zinc also requires a natural ionophore like quercetin or foods high in quercetin to transport it into the cells. This is why a lot of people take these together when they are sick.

Lab Results: • B12: 1667 • Magnesium: 2.3 • Vitamin D: 109.0 • Ferritin: 162 My B12 has always been high, even though I’ve never taken B12 supplements. I was anemic for many years, which I believe contributed to significant hair loss. After reaching menopause, the anemia resolved, and my hair loss stopped. Based on these results, I decided to stop taking vitamin D3. However, once I stopped, the hair loss issues returned. I suspect that stopping vitamin D3 might be the cause of the hair loss returning. I thought the body would maintain adequate levels for some time after stopping, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. What do you think, based on these lab results?

IT'S JUST GENETIC LUCK - 59 year old male here. My grandfathers went bald. My father went bald. My younger brother went bald. I lucked out and still have a full head of thick dark hair. I have no idea why my hair didn't fall out.

I believe the video editor has recently learned how to use zoom effects. However, there is excessive and abrupt zooming in this video. Please understand that my intention is to provide constructive feedback for improvement. I regularly watch Dr. Berg's videos and appreciate the content.

Dr. Berg, hi 👋🏼 I’m a huge fan! Thanks so much for your videos! My daughter and I have upped our vitamin d3, our magnesium, our zinc/copper, and our b complex we just stared, but are wondering when we should start to see results regarding our hair? Thanks for your time. S.

Depending on which magnesium supplement you are taking, you might not absorb most of it, glycinate has the highest absorption rate (around 80%), others are in the single digit percentage wise. Dr Berg has a few videos on magnesium you might want to check out. In this video he recommends at least 20'000 iu vit D daily... a rule of thumb is 100mcg K2 per 10'000 iu vit D. Autoimmune disease might also be helped with more vitamin D. Hope you will get better!
