I live in Nazare.. on Tuesday a local farmer brings her vegetables and fruit to our street 5-6 euros buys romaine lettuce, 4 tomatoes, 2 bulbs of garlic, 4 onions, 7kg potatoes, 2-3 sweet potatoes, large cauliflower, seasonal fruit, 10 large carrots...if I need anything during the week the municipal market is perfect...

HELLO!! So great to have seen your post! I was born in Lisbon and at 8.5 months grew up in USA. So I understand Portuguese more than speak it. With youngest son only having 1 year left of high school ….my husband and I are going start looking areas to get a flat and cost of living there! Husband would be able to work when there via internet. So we plan on living there 4-6 months a year in Portugal. With me having my BSN RN ….. I’m just not going to work - too difficult with transition. So glad seen you post!!! This looks great!! We are just in the beginning and really don’t plan to obtain a flat for year and a half or two. Thanks for another great video. I remember about two years ago when Lisa and I first got the wild idea that we might want to retire early and move to Portugal, we watched your 2021 "every penny tracked" video (or whatever it was called) and it was a huge boost to us. We knew then that we would, in fact, actually be able to make it work financially with what we had saved. That's when we put our plans into high gear. And here we are 12 1/2 months in to our new life in Portugal and it has been just as you show in your videos. The real deal. What a great year it's been here in Matosinhos (sorry we missed the meetup, but it was great to see our neighborhood make a cameo in the video). Sick of the rain, though (last Spring was dry by comparison). Our Bolt budget has expanded as well as a result, lol.

Hi Josh and Kalie! I watched many of your videos before moving to Porto. I came from Brazil, so while some US-specific advice wasn't applicable, most of the content was a big help! I've lived here with my wife and two dogs for almost two years, and we were in the Porto vs. Arsenal game, too! I think we might even live somewhat nearby, as I've seen Kalie with Valencia a few times on the street we live on. So, first of all, thanks for all the help! But I also wanted to leave this message because, after a while of not watching your videos, I decided to "catch up" a little bit, and I was wondering about Pincho, who was always so friendly and cute in the videos. My two dogs are getting old (14 and 16), and the older one is having a lot of health issues, so this subject makes me extra sad nowadays! I'm genuinely sorry for your loss. It's always hard, and we never really "move on," we move forward with the pain but also with the good memories that are irreplaceable and more than worth it. I'm sure you have many of these. On another note, it was great seeing how much Valencia has grown and how good she is with Portuguese already! Here's to good memories, friends, family (human and "fur"!), and community! Fiquem bem.

When I visited Lisbon I went to the municipal market(s). The variety was amazing and outside of it there was a farmers market with less expensive produce. I planned meals based on what was available for that day. Besides the produce there was vendors for fish, cheese, meat, eggs, chicken and duck, flowers and a couple of restaurants. The catch is you have to come early in the morning to get what you need by noon. The earlier the better. I could also sharpen my Portuguese speaking skills. I think it was only 5-6 blocks away in Cascais. It was an easy switch to change to the European/Portuguese mode of living. If you get a chance, please do show the markets around Porto. Thank you

You're welcome. @@BrianHutchison I see. I believe that SO has a couple at that price point and every now and then they get something really, really special in and it costs more but in general it seems to be the €45-65 range. If one is type 2 diabetic, do aspects of the Portuguese lend itself to low glycemic carbohydrate diet? Can you buy "keto" type breads made from coconut or almond flour? Are stevia and monk fruit sweeteners available at reasonable prices?
@ExpatsEverywhere7 ай бұрын
Not 100% sure but can say that one should say away from traditional bakeries. In the cities, there are enough specialty bakeries that you should be okay. I see stevia in stores but never paid attention the price. I can't imagine it's too much. - Josh & Kalie

Yes, we have. When we first arrived, Covid had stopped services and there were few but over the past couple of years, the scene has started to change. Hi Lacy, we're very sorry to hear that we never or hardly ever answer any of the comments that you take time to post. A couple of things are at play that I'd like to share. The first is that when we post on a Saturday, we are usually out and about living life offline with our daughter. We try our best either on Saturday evening (like right now) or Monday to get to the questions that came in over the weekend. After 48 hours or so, we're on to the next video and trying our best to prepare that one and depending on the nature of the comment and if we see it, we'll respond. Being 100%, I've not seen your screen name before although just recently KZbin changed how they're displaying names to creators vs the public view so I'm not sure I've ever gotten a comment from you before. I hope you have a good weekend. - Josh
