I thought high speed adjustment was for controlling the choppy, chatter stuff that creates high speed shaft movement, and low speed was for g outs, jumps and lower speed shaft movement? Do I have it all wrong?
@Joe2Jock4 жыл бұрын
Same, for my mountain bike suspensions high speed is for big quick hits like if you drove straight into a curb. Low speed would be for rolling whoops. When I had ST on my X3 and I wanted the chatter to be softer or more plush they said to soften low speed compression since the car wasn't moving as fast. It worked, but I'm still more confused than ever because I would have thought bobble head rocks and washboard stuff was high speed compression and rebound. Not sure what's right at this point.

Ok question about ride height. You said you set that particular car at say 16 inches. But what does that pertain too? Different size tires or longer arms will change things. So how bout how much droop or drop in percentage of suspension travel. Do you want the car to sit at 2/3rds the amount of suspension travel or half or are you only worried about ground clearance. This should pertain to any off-road car buggy truck or sxs doesn't it? Thanks.
@ShockTherapyllc4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Yes we are ultimately trying to set the suspension in a droop/compression spot. We tell people in the spring kit instructions to account for tire and long travel by adding 1/2" more ride height to the measurements for each 1" of tire height over stock. Add an 1" in ride height for long travel. The reason we don't give a shock shaft measurement or a percentage of droop for people to set up is because it is next to impossible to measure this on the car. Springs and dividers are in the way and 1/4" of shock shaft can be 1" of ride height change in the front on some cars. It is just easier to measure the ride height and account for tires.
@Joe2Jock4 жыл бұрын
So two questions - in simplest terms does adding preload and therefore ride height soften or firm up the ride? And if the crossover gap between the divider and crossover increases (from say 2 or 2 1/2" as recommended to 3 1/2") does that soften or firm up the ride? I set up my 2018 XP Turbo with Walker Evans shocks dead on the recommended settings, and ride height is close (slightly high in the rear) but the crossover gap is 2+" in front and 3 1/2" in the back when putting them 5.25" and 8" down as recommended. So should I just lower the crossovers to match the gaps you want?
@ShockTherapyllc4 жыл бұрын
More pre load equals more spring tension and ride height. This will firm up the ride quality. If your cross over gap is too large the ride will be softer for a longer time through compression. It basically can cause bottoming out if it’s too large a gap. If your ride height is good then run it. If it bottoms out too easy then adjust your compression adjuster. If you end up with most of your adjustment put into the shock and it still bottoms out then lower your cross overs and start over with your compression adjuster. Hope this helps.

Does the rebound circuit also have a popoff for compression in it? I have read that in some shocks the rebound adjuster also has an effect on compression. Was that shocks from years ago or are some modern shocks still this way? Or is that just some nonsense internet info I have over 1,000 miles on your x3 steering rack and it still feels like the day I bought it, stock rack was junk almost immediately. Thank you!
@ShockTherapyllc4 жыл бұрын
Great question. Most shocks today have a rebound adjuster that is basically opening or closing an oil passage in the shock shaft. This port is free flowing both directions (comp and Reb). Because of this you can say that the rebound has an affect on compression but it is minimal. With the rebound adjuster open you would see more slow movements in the suspension just like a low speed compression adjuster would control. With the rebound closed you would see less boaty movements in the suspension on the compression side just like closing off the low speed comp adjuster would do. How much? Well the affect of rebound all the way open or all the way shut on compression is about the same as one full turn on the low speed compression adjuster. There are shocks that have a one way check valve of sorts in the rebound circuit. Fox RC2s have this so that any rebound adjustment does not affect the compression system. We actually made our own nut on the end of the shock shaft that has a one way valve in it so we can run this on any shock to isolate the rebound. We run them on our race car (Fox IBP) and on other shocks for customers too. We saw a difference but it is minimal. Hope that helps with your question. Thank you with regard to the X3 rack. I am so pleased you like it. They really are bullet proof. Have a good one.

This may be a dumb question but....: I'm buying a 2016 RZR 1000. I have an enclosed trailer, so the height is going to be crucial. He measures it at 80.5 inches and my doorway is 82 inches My question is, can I adjust the shocks easily to lower it another inch if necessary? Also, would I gain another inch if I deflate the tires a bit? It's sitting on 32s.

We have the bottom in midding of 14 clicks the top we loosened all way and only went in 4.. at 6 the thing was way too unresponsive to chop ect rocks in New Hampshire trails. I know they ain't the baja 500 grade but seems like the setting at reservoir less clicks the better..
