Hoovie, I just wanted to drop you a note. I'm a tech at a dealership. The blown head gaskets most always lead to bottom end issues. The issue you talked about running crapy on startup, could mean coolant in the cylinders not as a vapor but liquid. This could be bad for bearings, very bad, but not noticed until too late. Please have these guys at Wizards check the rod bearings and if it was at my shop I'd check for rod damage. This could be a very costly and bad situation if not checked, but only a couple hundred bucks to be sure all is good. I watched this video last night and its been bothering me ever since. I've said my piece, thanks for the video, keep them coming.

I love it how the Wizard's garage actually takes engines apart and works on them. It's awesome to see, they're not just replacers, they're actually mechanics.
@chash7335 Жыл бұрын
The cylinder head nuts were loose because the engine was over heated, causing the head to expand and be crushed by the nut. When the engine cooled, the head is now less thick so the nuts are loose. I've seen this on Mercedes and Rolls/Bentley engines that had never been apart. Sometimes the head studs/bolts will also strip-which can be a nasty surprise when re-assembling the engine. Good luck.

I could be wrong but to me it doesn't look like a headgasket failure either. Headgasket looks to have been damaged while removing the head, the damage does not appear to travel from the coolant passage through the firing ring or through a oil passage. Cylinders don't appear cleaner or have less carbon buildup on the bank with the failed gasket compared to the other bank. The plugs appear to have water marks above the crush washer, meaning they were sitting in water rather than coolant/water being in the chamber. Possibly this is the miss and the overheating issue was related to something else?
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
Bingo! I've also see engines get so overheated it anneals the alum heads, turning them into soft junk.
@epi2045 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Amateur diagnosis on Hoovie and pals part. The engine was a turd before the loose bolts. Because of the pre-existing problems, loose head bolts maybe true but saying it was the mechanics fault… very short sighted. This is what you get when you buy junk or bottom of the heap examples. I have owned Ferrari and Aston’s and have the complete opposite buying habits. I don’t look for the bang for the buck high mileage sketchy stuff. All engines are very complicated to work on. The more cylinders, the more complication. This why when I am working on engines, I don't let anyone come up and start talking to me ( like Hoovie😂). Even in a simple oil change, you can miss one thing and ruin a motor. Those head bolts have to be tightened in a certain pattern and that pattern could even be two phases of completely different bolt tightenings too. This is just one crucial part of many crucial parts of a great engine rebuild. Also, once the engine is run in safely for 600 miles or maybe 10 hours, those head bolts have to retightened again. Valves may need to be readjusted. Many other bolts tightness may need to be checked. In a certain pattern. In a certain way.A new engine is like a balloon. It grows when hot and then it shrinks when cool. They are designed to allow for that but necessary torque settings on everything in the engine have to be obeyed to let any engine survive that. In low powered engines, these procedures are usually much simpler to complete but in high powered engines, they are mandatory. All of them. There is no short cutting the mechanic or saving the cost of the follow up engine rebuild maintenance procedure. These head bolts will back off and this kind of head gasket issue will happen. And most of the time, as soon as that coolant starts scoring the cylinders, a very expensive engine disassembly and repair has to be done. With ALL of the crucial steps to have to be done all over again. Having this kind of mechanical lack of attention happen on a piece of artwork that is a Ferrari engine is truly sad to see but it proves that every great mechanic is worth his or her weight in gold. That black Ferrari is simply gorgeous. Definitely on my lottery list if that ever happens. I'm not holding my breath.😂

That is one thing I learned when buying a car, even from family. Just because a coolant overflow tank looks healthy, it doesn't mean the coolant inside the engine is. I change my coolant here in Wisconsin every couple years just to be safe. Letting old coolant turn nasty eats at stuff and can eventually cause internals to rust. Particularly when people in an emergency throw regular water, which often has a high mineral content in to get them going again and forget to remove all of it with fresh stuff. Point is for those who don't know, now you know...

When the Wizard said, "I deffinatly need to raise my rates.", I was eating and nearly spit out my food. LOL

You can feel the utter contempt Danielson has working on that W12 Phaeton. No hesitation when Hoovie asks him if he prefers wrenching on the V12 Ferrari. Despite that being A HUGE ASS job that you need to be very meticulous about. The Ferrari just seems like it is logically laid out and maybe doesn't suffer quite so bad from the "10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag" like the W12.

NEVER show a vendor you paid more for something.

Well he didn't pay more for something. If you listen with the ears on your head he said he didn't pay full shop price lol.
@ermias75ermis2 Жыл бұрын
Even so he paid almost double than the Wizard . If you used your brain you would have understood a discount can only go so far. Therefore he was still robbed by them.
@grabsme Жыл бұрын
@@ermias75ermis2 he literally said in the video he DID NOT pay the amount it said on the invoice. Also he didn't get it fixed there. He did the shit that it took to get him back to Kansas. The rest of the work will be on the wizard. Do you guys all have a problem with your ears or?
@ermias75ermis2 Жыл бұрын
@@grabsme It´s a scam.Nevermind he didn´t pay the whole amount.If i charge so much a fraction at the end is still too much.Get it? It´s the principle that counts. You make it sound that he dodged a bullet when it is the exact opposite and aart from that the Wizard is still expensive.

I love Dan's t-shirt! When my friends and I were racing Fiats, we joked that Ferrari's symbol was a prancing horse, so ours should be a begging puppy.

That manual swapped 599 is a real treasure. If you had to pick only one of your cars to keep, it would be the one for me.
