What you talk about is so true. It really comes back to honest and open communication. To be willing to really hear and understand what someone is saying is a skill that takes practice. It is so easy to put up barriers to that message and want to defend oneself immediately. At the same time it is a skill to know how to approach someone and have an open conversation without being accusatory and to have an open mind to the other’s opinion. Humbling oneself is valuable as well. Unfortunately, this is becoming a lost skill, and I hope your message sinks into everyone!

It’s ironic the way I have judged (and even pulled away from) the people and religions for their competitive nature and their thinking of “well, my religion is best or better.” Yet, all along, I’ve been holding my own family members accountable for not “maintaining a standard” towards me that I feel that I give to them. This should have been obvious to me, but it took a complete stranger to point it out to me. You truly are amazing, Jen 🤍 Although I’m not really a huge hosiery fan, I do love the seam down the back; you don’t usually see much of that anymore. So Jen, I haven't shared this with you but the wife and I were once close to this couple at the church where all of us attended. Their daughter, our daughter and a mutual 3rd couple that we were friends with...their daughter hung out with our daughters. There was some type of possessive situation there where this couple's daughter started to bully our daughter and we tried to make it stop. All that happened was that a rift developed in our relationship. This couple was well established in the church and before we realized it, they started telling lies about us to the pastor of the church and within our mutual friends in the Sunday School class that we all attended. They actually tried to get us thrown out of the church. Talking about holier than thou and someone that thought they were more "prominent" in the church. It ruined my wife ever wanting to go to that church. So she stopped. I continued because I could not bear to give up being in the choir and music ministry. I eventually left because I had no support from either the church or my family to continue to go. It was a very difficult situation and I have never forgotten it. I had never run into a situation where a family lied so much to make themselves look better to mutual friends and to the pastor and his staff than that couple did. They preached a good game all the time, this husband caught the Sunday School class actually and they both lied so much that it was despicable to be honest. What does one do to get around that situation without destroying families that depend on that teacher that is lying? I have never understood the brokenness that we felt from that whole incident. The only action the pastor would take when we went to him to complain about the treatment, lies and character assassination's that we went through, in the end, was it worth it? And there were other people that witnessed what was happening and it turned them off to the fellowship within the church. Satan was clearly at work. But...having said all of this, this message rings so true in my mind because of what you have said. You're message is so spot on. G
