And I was totally down for that idea. But that is not what we got. By any means. And I'm so incredibly disappointed. Like using actual kids for this movie is fucking abusive and I'm disgusted. I legit do not understand why ANYONE thought it was appropriate to use children for this. I haven't seen any footage uncensored and I feel like I belong on a watch list just for seeing the censored content. I don't think you should be disappointed in yourself for wanting to defend a movie you honestly believed would have a heavy anti-CP/child exploitation message. As far as I know the director went out of her way to take care of the mental well being of the children. Bringing in counselors and mental health experts to look after them during filming. I'm sure those girls were made aware of exactly what they were doing. Children in the entertainment industry tend to grow up mentally quicker than other kids as they are exposed to the darker side of humanity early on.

B Marti They were aware only what the team told them, which we have no idea what was said so they totally could’ve spun it to make it seem okay in the kids’ eyes. That doesn’t really excuse the fact that chances are that the nasty men who watch this movie and like what they see if extreme enough could come after these children and stalk them. This movie is forever. It will be posted on terrible sites and that’s just a fact and terrible people may come wanting to do things to them. The director, parents of the children and that doctor she brought in are complicit in the hardships these children may face in the future because of this film. Also the fact that children mentally age quicker in the film industry isn’t concerning to you? they’re KIDS and it’s a job they likely didn’t choose. Soooo many child stars are scarred forever because of their jobs. You can’t make a film claiming to be about the implications of child exploitation then literally exploit the children in the movie.

This movie could have easily be made really well and actually achieve its intended purpose. I don't understand anyone thought this was a good idea. The plot is just lazy in itself. With proper character/plot development and without all the excessive sexual shots, could have really worked if done well. Like, we get it, the girls are being super sexualized and abused. We don't need to see it the entire movie to get the point across. I would even be fine if it was one scene. It would have done its intended job.

@@highrise This movie displays sexualized dancing acts of kids. Like any other "beauty" contest with kids. Normal people feel disgust by the reaction of the audience at the end of the film and some commentators here can't distinct between movie storytelling and reality. Like any polarizing piece of Art this should start a discussion(My intent is not to defend the movie or the way the story is transported). And by that I don't mean shouting loud "PEDO" and then move to the next video. Most likely all of you have at least one piece of clothing that is made by children or drink coffee picked by children. This kind of exploitation, no schools, no clean water, a marriage with 12, etc. is what we should do something about. We all are part of the problem and no one wants to hear that or talk about it. And yes, Nicole, I think like you, that nobody would have needed this film. However, the discussion is long overdue and: ... only morons kill the messenger.

Honestly, I think it's more accurate to say that children can't give _informed_ consent, especially where sexual matters are concerned, because they aren't developed or experienced enough to fully understand it. Though for all intents and purposes there's little difference when we're talking about this type of thing. I'm just cautious not to imply that children can't make any decisions about their future, because I know there are some people who believe that too and I disagree. What I want to know is what self-respecting parent could have thought this was a good idea. I can't believe they were _all_ trying to exploit their kids for fame, nor do I think they were all completely ignorant. But maybe I'm giving people too much credit.

"She meets new friends at school." You mean she sees girls she finds cool at school. And when she finds them rehearsing in some junkyard, they throw rocks at her and end up hitting her on the head. And the next day they make fun of the bump they made on her head. This movie is such garbage in every form. Become friends with those that are abusing you. Yay! FML

exactly, the ones defending it using gender and race don't care that it's sexualising kids, they are only using it as a weapon for their views. Then you get the % of media that are so far out the "Darling! show me something different, I don't want to see the type of movie, shock me me me me!!!" that they back anything that's different, even if it's stupid.

Speaking as a hypersexual that started off that way as a kid, I 10000% agree with you. I'd actually murder someone for filming even a child actor playing my childhood during those times. There's a difference between telling a story and making what can best be described as softcore porn about it.

You know if this was adult women, it would just be seen as kind of tasteless trash, but when you do it with LITERAL CHILDREN, then that's when you get to the point that no one, not a single soul should defend this.
