Hey music friends, I hope you're all doing well. Maybe - at some point - you asked yourself what the difference is between all these hundreds of reverb effects out there. I thought it would be cool to have an ultimate guide to these beautiful sounds as it could help you to better understand what you're actually looking for. This video took me about two weeks. That's the reason why I didn't upload new content sooner. Sorry for that. :) Enjoy! (And don't be too distracted by that long red hair below my left ear. XD )

Great job, Kenneth! I know you must put a lot of time and effort into these demos. I prefer these deep-dives rather than the short demos so often found on KZbin. I especially like your personal observations on the nuances of the settings. The only reverb pedal I have (not counting the Boss ME-50) is the Hardwire Supernatural. I would love to have the Empress but cannot afford it. I will probably "gift" myself the Ammoon Pockverb for Christmas, as it has a lot of options for about $60. It is not a sure thing as I have my doubts about Ammoon durability; I bought an Ammoon American Sound and it died after one year of light use. But I love reverb so I will be bargain hunting during the next few months...anyways, thanks for the great--and unique--content!

Thank you so much for these kind words. Means a lot to me. I just can recomment these Zoom MS pedals as you can experiment with a great amount of cool effect and learn a lot about reverb sounds you might have already looked for. I got my MS70CDR for 60 bucks used. Never regretted getting one. :)

Weirdest thing going on with the sound for me - When use my bluetooth speakers your voice is fine but the demo's are barely audible; that is until I pan the volume left or right. then I can hear the music. Some sort of phase issue going on perhaps?. Weird thing is it only happens through bluetooth - Laptop and headphones are fine.

A couple of questions. What is you favourite always-on reverb? And, I've always though that room and hall are similar - if you set room with a long decay just that not just make it into hall almost?
@berlinshoegazer3 жыл бұрын
You're right. Room and Hall are very similar. The definition for a Room is just a little smaller than a Hall so basicly there should be a difference. But with the development of reverb effects those two reverb names got used for almost the same sound effect and acoustic size impression. On the Empress (for example) comes Room first and is followed by a Hall. So there must be a difference. Empress gave their Reverb pedal the option for a almost endless Hall reverb tale. The same thing goes for the Plate reverb. The RV7 by Digitech is very limited in it's decay time although it has the same setting names. Anyways, I think there was once a difference in the size impression of these effects. But it's hard to tell for sure. My favourite "always-on" effect is Plate with a pretty long decay. :)
@stevemackenzie1003 жыл бұрын
@@berlinshoegazer Thanks for that. I use EHX Cathedral Reverb and probably haven't experimented enough with Plate but will give that a try.

Would you still need a delay pedal if you used the Empress Reverb? Some websites list the pedal as a “reverb + delay”, which is confusing me. I thought it was a fancy reverb pedal only.
@berlinshoegazer3 жыл бұрын
It has a reverb-delay option but I'd always recommend using an extra delay pedal as it's a bit tricky to use it seperately from the reverb sounds.

Hi there man. Thank you for the infos about reverb. Im really a fan of yours here from philippines. Especially for making a huge and weird effects which i like most. Just want to ask where do you prefer to place the reverb? reverb to delay or delay to reverb?
@berlinshoegazer3 жыл бұрын
I always switch the positions as I need it for a specific song. But in generell I'd start with delay into reverb as I see reverb as the finial room I create sound in. A delay is more a creative copy machine for melodies in my playing ...so it goes befor the room/reverb. Hope that helps.

SHOEGAZER thanks for the advise. i think your right positiong and playing around with it maybe depend on the song that you would playing to get the right sound

try a hall/church reverb with loooong predelay and long decay. If you can run your effects loop and dry sound in parallel, I think it'd be easier to recreate with a low feedback digital delay and your reverb of choice.

Finally i found (shoegaze); Thank you for this one (shoegaze) never knew before. Why it called shoegaze?
@berlinshoegazer3 жыл бұрын
During the late 80s and early 90s, when some creative rock musician started to perform music with a huge amount of effect pedals, they were mainly gazing at their pedalboards (shoes) because they had to concentrate on changing sounds. English journalists called it "shoegazing" with a negative intention as these bands weren't performing like cool rock stars. It appeared boring and shy to them. But the sounds they were creating were massive and new at this time. That's how the term Shoegaze and Shoegazing got around. But it was and still seems to be a "scene that celebrates itself" :)

The Zoom sounds artificial and bad in every capacity. The empress is trebly and plucky and not my bag. The Digitech is warm and balanced and does these effects properly.
@arthurpiccio79063 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree, but the Zoom is not necessarily bad. I kind of like it with an always-on EP booster or analog delay after to make it less digital-sounding. With either of those things after, I can tolerate and enjoy it enough to not want an upgrade. The real problem I think is the lack of an analog dry through and its terrible ADA conversion.
