I could tell it was your horse simply because his feet were well groomed from his last shoeing. I love the name Tabasco too!
@livetotell1002 жыл бұрын
I'm shocked the horse just let him do that. I don't know much about horses, but that was impressive. I didn't realize that much work went into shoeing a horse. And even I could tell how skilled the guy doing it is.

Why are some hoofs look nice and smooth when your grime and others come of in bits. Like brittle? Is it the age of the horse?

Why do they cut that v shape into the hooves ? Is it for keeping the hooves clean for a longer period ? Or am i completely wrong
@IsaVarg2 жыл бұрын
They don’t cut the V shape, it’s there naturally. It’s called the frog! Very cute.
@critterisgrey2 жыл бұрын
i've always been confused/curious about when you're shaping the shoe; i assume you're shaping it to fit the hoof? but if the hoof isn't right in front of you for reference are you like.... doing it from memory or something?????
@michaelkelly12672 жыл бұрын
I've seen a few of these and the shaping of the shoe with the anvil is indeed the really mysterious bit.
@Lowaver2 жыл бұрын
It takes a lot of practice. Plus you got a few methods. You can hot shoe and see where it lines up. You can also just use a soap stick and see where the lines go. It's what I do. You just have to make sure it's a little bigger than the hoof so there is some growth room.

@Youre_Right2 жыл бұрын
Farriers make this look so easy. Trust me it is not! You can’t use brute force to move a horses leg into position. If that horse doesn’t want to do what you want them to. Then you’re out of luck. A good farrier builds a trust with the horse and has a way with the horse.

You can see that you’re hurting the horse
@kiara54012 жыл бұрын
And I can see you know nothing about horses. Cleaning and shoeing a horse does not hurt it as long as the farrier does it right. Horse hooves are made up of Keratin, same as our fingernails. So it’s like clipping our fingernails but of course with a lot more steps as thick hooves differ from thin nails. There are no nerve endings on the outer areas of of horse’s hoof. Meaning that as long as the farrier does it right the horse won’t feel anything when the shoe is applied and nailed in place. And even if it did hurt, believe me. That horse would’ve let that farrier know right away and you would’ve been able to see the reaction. However, the horse remains calm and does not show any signs of pain. So therefore no harm is being done here
