I can't thank you enough for your videos. I'm a mom who has put her dreams on hold to raise my kids. I went to design school and your videos are giving me the knowledge I need to start my new career. I'm so surprised at how similar drafting shoes and clothes are. I can't think you enough for these free videos🥰🥰🥰🥰

Andrew, Watching your videos which started with Choosing a Last and continued to this lesson 5 was not only instructive but exciting to see the end in which you cut the leather, put it together, sew it and then complete it with heel and staining and polishing. I am bummed you stopped at lesson five. please, continue. I want more of your videos. Thanks, Ben

Hello Andrew! Thanks for the videos. You are more than a leather craftsman, a true teacher like those from the past who taught practical crafts. Many arts are cloaked in secrecy. The last could have been called a former or mould. If it were up to me, you could be conferred with knight hood. This is complex geometry explained sincerely. I could not find anything amiss with your lessons or your personality. Thank you!

Thank you for this extremely helpful series! I'm currently making shoes without lasts but recently purchased a pair. I can't wait to sew my first lasted pair of shoes.

In case any viewers are looking to acquire one, the spur-like stitching wheel you used is also called a “pouncing wheel” /“pounce wheel”, “pattern wheel”, “tracing wheel” or “dart wheel”. I have several that are used regularly as a part of my sewing and patterning kit, and signmakers often use them, along with chalk, to transfer a design from one surface to another.

These lessons have been absolutely fascinating! I have been making cloth shoes and want to try a leather shoe. Where can I find leather shoe making supplies? I have many of the tools already. Leather for the upper and the sole is where I am a bit lost.
@AndrewReesonLeather3 жыл бұрын
It would depend on where you are. I would talk to a leather supplier and see what they recommend

What is the cutting board you use? HDPE or LDPE? This is a super helpful video, as are all in this series. God bless you.
@AndrewReesonLeather3 жыл бұрын
I bought a huge sheet of HDPE to cover my workbench. It works pretty well for cutting, but I use a separate board for punching holes to prevent the big sheet from being destroyed

can you use the right pattern for the left shoe assuming that the shoes design is symetrical on both side of shoe. i mean its pratically a mirror pattern or do we make two standards? cheers.
@AndrewReesonLeather3 жыл бұрын
I only make one and use it for left and right. the final shoe might look slightly asymmetrical, but not enough to matter.
@voiceofonecrying-20244 жыл бұрын
If each side of the shoe and vamp are different, do we make two standards to make it work, or do we still use the technique used in your video. The lasts I have are smaller on the inner side than the outer side. Please respond.
@AndrewReesonLeather4 жыл бұрын
You can use one standard for both sides, but it will be more accurate to make two standards. I've never bothered as the finished product looks good regardless

Hey, Andrew, I'm following the process you demonstrate now and goes very well so far, but I need to ask why do you use the half of the shoe pattern to duplicate the other half when even on the shoe-last the two sides are not the same? Do I miss something? Really looking forward to your answer to carry on my project and is really appreciated
@AndrewReesonLeather4 жыл бұрын
Well spotted. It is better to make separate inside and outside pattern pieces, but for this video I chose to simplify the process. The end result is pretty much the same
