Shogun: Lord Toranaga Negotiates With Jesuit Father Dell’Aqua And Captain Ferreira On The Black Ship

Shogun: Lord Toranaga negotiates with The Jesuit Father Visitor Dell’Aqua (Alan Badel) and Captain Ferreira (Vlaydek Shebal). Lord Toranga explains that, of course, Lord Ishido is trying to kill him, as are many other Lords. Toranaga offers a Cathedral in Yedo, Japan, in exchange for enough muskets and ammunition to deal with the situation. But the Captain wants next year’s Black Ship Captaincy whether this year is successful or not, and he also wants Anjin-San. Toranaga agrees.
Shogun, The Millions-Of-Copies Sold Novel, was written by James Clavell. The Masterpiece Television Mini Series was Produced by NBC and Paramount Studios, Directed by Jerry London, Screenplay by Eric Bercovici, Director Of Photography Andrew Laszlo, Production Executive Frank Cardea, with Production Designer Joseph Jennings. Shogun starred: Richard Chamberlain (as Pilot-Major John Blackthorne), Toshiro Mifune (as Lord Yoshi Toranaga), Yoko Shimada (The Lady Toda Buntaro Mariko), Frankie Sakai (as Lord Kashigi Yabu), Alan Badel (as Jesuit Father Visitor Dell’Aqua), Michael Hordern (as Friar Domingo), Damien Thomas (as Jesuit Father Martin Alvito), John Rhys-Davies (Portuguese Pilot Vasco Rodrigues), Vladek Sheybal (as Portuguese Captain Ferriera), George Innes (as Ship Hand Vinck), Leon Lissek (as Portuguese Jesuit Father Sebastio), Yuki Meguro (as Kashigi Omi), Hideo Takamatsu (as Lord Toda Buntaro), Hiromi Senno (as Consort Usagi Fujiko), and Nobuo Kaneko (as Lord Ishido Kazunari. Many people were involved in the making of this classic masterpiece. There was an A-List Cast, an A-List Director, an A-List Musical Score from Maurice Jarre, and A-List production quality with amazing sets and intricate costumes, detailed for that time era. Narration by the famous and powerful voice of Orson Welles.

True...but he would have in this situation. It was a change which was no change. Blackthorne was well aware there was no real loyalty from Toranaga. Everything was about worth, position, and face.

That is not correct, Lord Toranaga never sold the Englishman, Blackthorn to Captain Ferreira in the book in return for muskets; this is a dramatic innovation in the TV series.

I actually think it works pretty well. Toranaga wouldn't want to, but he also knows that he wasn't given much choice in regard and his position and him trying to become Shogun would be more important than Blackthorne. I did like how Rodriguez saved him at the last minute and therefore preventing from Ferreira from getting Blackthorne while Toranaga gets off scott free.

There’s the question though, why Rodrigues feared for the life of Blackthorn and thus throws him overboard so he could swim to the galley. Maybe there was something true about Toranaga giving him away in the deal. He didn’t care about nobody’s life.

Hai, Paul9601EX-San. Rodrigues may have wanted to repay his "life debt" that he owed Blackthorne, because Blackthorne had saved Rodrigues when he had fallen overboard. Good Comments. Arigato Gozaimashita.
