He could have had a $200 million contract if he had waited till 25 to sign? Man, shows how much he really wanted to start playing in the MLB. Pure passion for the sport.

A consideration was that he was already big in Japan and making significant income from endorsements, so he wasn’t as concerned about making less money in the MLB when he came over and signed with the Angels. Given what he has done this season, I only imagine he is making even more money in Japan now than he was making before this season. He signed a contract extension with the Angels covering the 2021 & 2022 season paying him $3M this year and $5.5M next season. He was eligible for arbitration and he may have gotten more money from an arbitrator had he gone that route, but he chose not to do that because maximizing every dollar he can get isn’t his primary motivation given the money he us making in Japan. So, it us without question that he has a passion for the sport, but his financial situation is different than other players who have come over from Japan.

It should be noted that Babe Ruth, who Ohtani is being compared to, only hit & pitched for parts of 2 seasons (1918 & 1919), he only hit & pitched for approx. 200 games over those 2 seasons. So, even Babe Ruth wasn’t a full time hitter & pitcher when he did both in those 2 seasons. Prior to 1918 Ruth was a full time starting pitcher and from 1920 (his 1st year with the Yakees) and after Ruth was a full time position player (outfielder). The great Babe Ruth didn’t do what Ohtani has done this year, which makes Ohtani’s record as a full time starting pitcher and a full time hitter even more amazing.

This video is not mentioned why Ohtani decided to enter Fighters. So, I add that. The GM and Manager suggested that Let's try playing as 2way. It was so innovative and surprising idea for Ohtani and Baseball society. So, there were a lot of critical comment from baseball people. "No good", "Impossible", "Crazy", "Never let do", "Don't insult Professional Baseball" so on. But they did.

Thank You for the added information and that info corresponds to the reported reason that Ohtani signed with the Angels, as they were the only team that committed to let him both hit snd pitch while the other teams he was considering only said they would consider letting him do both. In his contract extension he signed with the Angels covering the 2021 & 2022 seasons, the Angels even put in writing their commitment to let Ohtani hit & pitch. The Angels demonstrated commitment to letting Ohtani pursue his dream of hitting & pitching in MLB and Ohtani is a loyal and honorable man, so I believe that the Angels and Ohtani will agree to a long term extension of his contract before his current extension expires at the end of the 2022 season in the same way the Angels signed a long term extension with Mike Trout before his then-existing contract expired. Trout’s contract will have him on the Angels until he is 40 years old. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ohtani and the Angels agree to a similar length contract.

The Angels should Make Ohtani A Outfielder
@dorothygale1104
@dorothygale1104 3 жыл бұрын
@@kennybegeske8824 Are you saying that he shouldn’t be pitching or are you saying the Angels should have play outfield and pitch? FYI - the Angels were the only team thst committed to let him both hit & pitch when he first signed while the other teams he was considering only said they would consider letting him do both. That was a primary teason he signed with the Angels. In his 2-year contract extension that covers the 2932 & 2022 season, the Angels even put that commitment in writing. Ohtani wants to hit and pitch and, if playing the outfield means he doesn’t pitch, it is unlikely he would go for that, especially given that he is the best pitcher on the team. If the Angels had good pitching maybe Ohtani would consider not pitching. While everyone marvels at Ohtani’s hitting (and rightly so) last week in an interview on the Rich Eisen Show (video is on YT) Hall of Famer John Smotlz said that Ohtani has so much pitching talebt that if he were a full time pitcher, he would be every bit ss good as Jacon deGrom. Coming from a Hall of Famer, that makes that statement believable. Even now, excluding Ohtani’s 1 bad start against the Yankees 2 weeks ago, his pitching before and after that game put on the level of top pitchers in the game.

I'm a fan of Shohei Ohtani, but I think this presentation is a bit weird and cheesy in approach with its artificial voice quality in the narration and funky way of reading certain text. (For example, the narrator says "zero to one win-loss record" instead of "Oh and one win-loss".) It also jumps around too much from early play to present day in the MLB, and has a lot of rather insignificant information about the Japanese baseball stats that just seems like useless trivia. It does contain more relevant information as well, so it's not a total loss. Quite a bit has happened in his MLB career since this was created, too, so it seems like this should either focus on true biography more than trying to portray his 2021 season performance. As a bio, there's a lot left out about his "life story," so the title is deceptive. It tells little or nothing about his early life outside of baseball.

Ippei (His translator) states that he’s single in the stadium food video at around 4 min into the video. I’ll put a link for that video. But that was 2 years ago and there are rumors that he has a girlfriend right now but it’s not decisive. The girlfriend is a former Japanese volleyball player, her name is Kano Maiko. I highly doubt their relationship cause honestly they’re just rumors with close to no evidence . All this talk and comparison to Babe Ruth but I think many have forgotten if Ruth had of been injured like this kid there was no "miracle" elbow surgery back then. Surgery which can be argued actually improves a pitchers career. Back then Ohtani would have become a fielder of some sort never to pitch again. In my opinion he has a long way to go to be considered in the same conversations as the Bambino but if he stays healthy? Truly a special player that doesn't come along often. Remember also Tiger was a slam dunk to crush Nicklaus career major wins but that didn't go quite as planned.
