6 for 6, 3 homers, 10 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, 20 total bases, 10 runs, hitting almost a cycle. All on a night when he clinched 50/50 for the first time in history with Dodgers making the playoffs. Setting a team record for HRs. All this when he is also a regular a starting pitcher. And the 51st homer came when all the others were already accomplished. Possibly the greatest single individual performance in a game in MLB history.

I bought my father father replacement Dodgers hat last night and ohtani broke the record. I told Dad it was his lucky hat. My head is still in good shape and so is my son's. Our family has been Dodger fans from Brooklyn to La. This was awesome. I am going to keep the receipt to that hat as a record.

Ruth didn't have the option to DH on days he didn't pitch. Ohtani is great but he hasn't put homered other teams quite yet. As far as I know, Ohtani hasn't played defense which is a key part of the game. Great players different eras. Ruth averaged more triples per 162 games than Ohtani has.

Pitching winning percentage 667 vs 671 (close). Pitching record 38-19 vs 94-46. Finally home runs 179 vs 714. Seasons with 50+ homeruns 1 vs 4.

We always are comparing players separated by 2-3 generations (or more) of players. Shohei is the only reason I got interested in baseball again. There have been many comparisons to Ruth over the years and the comparisons have all been great players themselves. The one stat the everybody (including this show) is batting average, especially lifetime batting average. However Shohei has stolen more bases in the last 3-4 years than Ruth had in his career which of course generates runs much like a 2 out single does, sometimes. Great show today.

He needs to do this for several years before people start talking greatest ever. Ty Cobb averaged .366 and hit .400 twice. Ruth averaged .340 and had 714HR. Lots of incredible stats from great players (some of whom like Ruth could dominate at multiple positions) not even counting the steroid era. Ohtani is amazing and is setting up his own corner of Baseball legacy, but let's not put him over guys with WAY better numbers until he actually gets there. He has the POTENTIAL to be the best.
