@CyanidesCinema22 күн бұрын
The yakuza is still very real and thriving. You don’t hear about it because you probably don’t live there. They stopped being a frontier of crime and instead control companies and corporations. You’d be surprised how much of Japan is still controlled by the yakuza
@Kingkongmental25 күн бұрын
Ohtani purposefully lived in dorms most his life and gave all his money to his mom for the majority of his career. It is SERIOUSLY doubtful he is gambling or involved in crime.
@hobokyle750429 күн бұрын
Ohtani's contract is 10 years for $700 ($70M a year) but he's deferring ~97% of his salary ($68M a year) for 10 years so he'll "only" be paid $2M a year for the next 10 years (and only in 2034-2043 will be getting that $68M per year). I don't know, this doesn't sound like somebody with a multi-million dollar gambling problem to me (or maybe he's just gambling away all that lucrative New Balance money??).
@joecha974629 күн бұрын
He also just deferred any punishment due to the gambling scandal

If there was no defer, you wouldn't have received $700 million
@hobokyle750426 күн бұрын
@@oli.y I think it has something to do with MLB salary caps/luxury tax. If he agrees to a deferment, they can get more high value players without hitting salary cap and paying the luxury tax (to punish teams that try to "buy" a world series). I am not an expert by any means, but I think if they pay Ohtani when he's not playing for them they can avoid counting that 68M/yr towards the cap (thus allowing them to pay him and other players more in the long run since they are saving so much by not hitting cap).

His interpreter is a con man. He lied about working for the Red Sox. He got close to a guy that doesnt speak English and was able to talk his way into Ohtani's life and getting him to trust him, even with his money. I can see how Ohtani could've been fooled by him. Look at Fabia and how he got into Diego Sanchez's head. Even Tom Brady's guru Alex Guerrero is shady and i think used Tom. The way the statute was written in the Bank Secrecy Act, "willful blindness" is not a legal defense. Ohtani is legally responsible for his own financial transactions. Plus his accountants, agents, etc, all should have been monitoring his money. Somebody should have red flagged the missing $4.5M.

If you bet on yourself to win, you own the liability of "taking it easy" today for the big bet tomorrow, or risking injury today at the expense of sitting out or taking it easier tomorrow when the winnings are less or void. This is doubly true when management of teams is involved. There are, unfortunately, no ways to allow those involved with the outcome of games to gamble that do not result in conflict of interest.

This dude keeps saying half a million, but Ohtani actually got $700mil. And he deferred all but $2 million each year for the 10 years and then he’s gonna get paid like Bobby Bonilla does from the Mets except way more money each year
