He's an older fan of Metroid probably since the NES, he played the Prime games and has known about Project Dread for 15 years. To see it finally come back must've been so insanely gratifying.

I was 10 years old when Metroid Dread was announced in development for the Game Boy Advance (which was soon moved to the Nintendo DS). I’m 29 now, I never thought in a million years that this game would ever see the light of day. Metroid Dread was rumored to be in development for almost 2 decades.

When they said "Another new" I was kinda like "Damn, I wish they dropped the trailer before talking, but hot damn, that's still fire. The cutscenes with the robot have oddly low frame rates, but the rest is clean and smooth. Here's to hoping it has the speed running potential of the classics with these new movement options. The offensive melee and slide look like they'll be great for speeding through it on replays, looks super fun and sick!

So I'm pretty sure they only said what it was before they showed it because they wanted to do everything in their power to not confuse this with Prime 4. You'd think people would know there's 2D and Prime metroid games, but r/NintendoSwitch has a lot of confusion over thus.

@@danielstuckwisch9343 Lol, that doesn't surprise me. When games have 2D and 3D variants, people tend to only pay attention to the 3D games, unless its Mario. Even Zelda 2D games are seen as the "lesser" experiences. And, I mean, when the 3D games start being multi-hundred hour experiences and the 2D are 20 at best, I can understand how people may get that idea of more value in the 3D in their minds. So yeah, I know why they did it, I just wish they weren't so explicit. Like if they led in saying "We don't have Metroid Prime 4 to show today. However, we do have this. *snap" I think that would've been good, cause we could've debated if it was another remake or a new entry until the title card or something that makes it obvious to fans that it's a new game shows up. But that's basically a nitpick compromise, so it's whatever

Real Nintendo fans play Metroid. You so called Nintendo fans that been skipping Metroid need to get off your asses and support this awesome franchise, it can't always be just about Mario, DK, Zelda and Kirby.

They're not true fans. They're soulless casuals who don't care about anything but cutesy, fluffy, cuddly challengeless games. They run out and buy games in mass and then get bored after a week, then they turn around and sell them or they collect dust forever completely forgotten. I still have my copies of Fusion and Zero Mission almost 20 years later! As a matter of fact, I still have almost every game and system I ever bought. I'm sure most people reading this can say the same. But there's a silver lining to all this. While I would like for the Metroid community to grow, I'm very happy that the community is filled with true fans and people who truly love it and not other people. While I'm weary of the fans who came into the fandom due to the Prime Series, at least they seem to care about the franchise overall, even if they don't know much about the continuity of the OG 2D games. So I say keep them away and keep them out. Those that want to give the franchise a chance, will join and will come to see why those of us who play the games love them dearly. They're fantastic fun games set in a very interesting world that actually has continuity unlike so many other Nintendo franchises.

lol i was the one who said "METROID 5 PLEASE" at the beginning. i havent played any of the spinoff series but i binged 1, 2, super, and fusion last year and fell in love with specifically that saga, so this announcement was nutty. the aftermath of fusion with the thing that happened in sector 6 and the GF is so bleak and samus is so alone, god that game has been just begging for a sequel, i cant wait!
