Shokio Hopefully Nintendo turns this around, but I see your points and this was exactly bottled in my opinions and thoughts all year long. I wanted to stay passive and give Nintendo a chance, but their moves and "Please understand" concepts is kind of asking their fans to kiss them a little bit more without any returns. Not many Nintendo fans see that of course, but at this point, it has to be felt and worded out at least. They still have a bright future of course(Nintendo), but hopefully they handle things and get through things well. Overall, I am a very disappointed early adopter of the Wii U, definitely should have waited for a price drop where they were forced to from low sales, negativity, and especially PS4 being 50 bucks more back then. I wonder if they would make an ambassador program or something like the 3DS to make up for those early adopters, but that's only a dream right now and probably ever.

Nintendo is either never going to change or will change too late. They CONSTANTLY refuse to listen to what fans want (account system NOT based on hardware, new installments in IPs like Star Fox or F-Zero for example, achievements, lackluster hardware, open world Mario platformer, taking away Swapnote, etc.). Their Mario games are churned out on a yearly basis and they're just not as original or fun as they used to be (the last Mario platformer that blew me away was Galaxy 2). It's to the point where I look forward to Zelda and Metroid more than Mario, because those franchises at least try to innovate. Now 3D World might blow me away, but I'm not crossing my fingers. Nintendo is a mere shadow from what they used to be. They don't care about being number one or it's fans. It's really a shame that Nintendo is going to probably kill themselves because I actually love Nintendo and their games. But Nintendo either needs to evolve or die. Because there's a reason why the majority of gamers are excited about the PS4 or Xbox One while many of them ignore the Wii U. The competition doesn't have to kill Nintendo, because they're killing themselves.

Their Mario games are not yearly. They're managing two platforms and are trying to put out as many games as they can on them Nintendo's games now are better than ever. The stuff they made on the 3DS is leagues ahead of what they made for the DS. Its their third party support that needs to pick up. If they have to "survive" by conforming to the bullshit the rest of the game industry does these days. Their horrible practices, they dont deserve to be around anyway. The industry is that fucking bad right now. You have no idea. The PS4 and the Xbox arent the future. The future is about to take this industry and make it is bitch. Look here's the reality, Yamauchi appointed Iwata to head in 2003. After the Gamecube failed. With Yamauchi's sole parting advice as Nintendo's last CEO to him, he spearheaded along with the DS and the Wii Then he introduced the 3DS and the WiiU, which are extensions of their last consoles with added features that enhance games. Whle the WiiU also bring something new to a lot of gaming genres and playstyles it also serves as something to streamline your games.To make it all the more intuitive. What did Iwata do while prepping for the new gen? Expanded their work force(no where near enough) and more, but alas their marketing head from the Wii era departed. See Iwata did what Yamauchi did, he took reins of the company and he structured it so he could lead effectively. The management that used to be here during the Gamecube era and back? They dont work at Nintendo anymore, they're all gone. Iwata came to NOA and got rid of the dead weight that was sitting on the board over here too. Now he's running NOA himself.

I'm not denying that there is numerous things that need fixing at the company, but why insist on doing things that would make them be seen as sell outs towards others (like IOS development, something Square Enix and Capcom are getting flanked on for when they're fan favorite IP's are on there more than the consoles).

If Nintendo doesn't respond to any of these problems I'm switching to an Xbox One. Microsoft responded to their fans after the released the DRM, judging from the fact that Nintendo don't want to accept changes I don't want to support a company stuck in the past.

Microsoft fans had to push hard to change Microsoft's direction. Microsoft must have noticed the videos on youtube that state their worries about the rumors stating that Mircosoft and Sony might have DRM on their consoles. It is rumored today that Sony decided to change their mind about DRM when they saw the outcry to the rumor; Microsoft did not. It took gamers weeks to change the DRM policies.

Microsoft didn't respond to the fans after the DRM fiasco, it's because they knew Sony were going to implement it too, but seeing the backlash Microsoft's plans got, backtracked and said they wouldn't directly support it. ***** I well a lot of people are misinformed in what the PS4 is actually capable of doing. The PS4 is system with a better hardwear, while Xbox is a system with better softwear and based on cloud gaming. The PS4 is built to play games better but that won't fix the extremely bad community, Microsoft have bought enough servers to give gamers a better online experience which is something I that interest me, all the exclusives I actually care about like FF XV and KH3 is coming onto Xbox One which is something I'm good with and I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer so having it as a all in one entertainment box is good enough for me.

This is actually one of the best videos you have ever done Shokio. You made a ton of great points. I really do think that it is time for Mr. Miyamoto to step down because Nintendo is really stuck in the past. If it were not for the success of the 3DS, I do think Nintendo would be alot more worried about the low sales of the Wii U. But as long as their handhelds sell 100 million devices each generation, Nintendo really seems to be complacent with their home Consoles.

Actually Miyamoto is part of the problem. Even though he has created the best games of all time he has also done some things that make Nintendo's systems not user friendly to everyone. The N64's controller was designed by him to work with his Mario game. Chances are he also designed the Gamecube controller and Wii and Wii U controllers. And even thougth those controllers were built to work with his games, third party games, fighting games, and sports games, Nintendo's controllers suck playing with.

I know it's difficult to criticized and Nintendo being stubborn (mostly due to haters spouting bullshit.) *Online Chat* I wanna chat without using a built-in camera so I don't have to see people or let others see me if I don't want to. I wanna be able to chat with other people when I'm playing the game while others are playing a different game from me especially on Virtual Consoles. Because I hate trash talking (and I hate my teenage years for doing so,) *Online Play* IMPORTANT! Especially with Virtual Console if I wanna play with someone co-operatively multiplayer online, especially the Final Fight games. I can't go outside and make friends. The only purpose to go outside is by myself or with someone part of my family since there is barely anyone that I wanna talk to. IT'S NOT EVEN THAT EASY, IT'S TOO GOD DAMN HARD TO FIND FRIENDS IN REAL LIFE! As long as the games are good, it's not always a bad idea nor a good idea to make a powerful console. I don't hate on Nintendo because I honestly don't care if the game is "childish" or the graphics are "bad," or that the franchise is "rehashed." If Nintendo were to make such bad decisions, that deserves to be criticized.

Games like CoD or even Uncharted are pretty simple. You just push forward not much gameplay to be had. Now that's not to say those games are bad but rather to defend the idea that Mario and Zelda are only for children.

The thing about online is that I literally don't think Nintendo knows how to do it right. It's not that they are narrow minded, it's that they are ignorant. And that's really a shame. As for the Wii, Iwata has gone on record saying that they didn't expect HD TVs to catch on as fast as they did, so they didn't see a point in going HD yet. The awesome thing about the Wii is that the motion control technology is cheap as hell. In the $50 range. So they could have easily made the Wii cost $349.99 and made it an HD system AND dominated that gen.

You know, BG reported a while back that Sony was going to include a touchscreen in the Dualshock 4. Sony went around to ask third-party developers what they thought and they all told Sony no because that was not what they (Or the gamers) wanted. So they took it out and only included the touchpad. See where I'm going with this? Nintendo made a controller third-parties didn't want. That must play a part in why third-parties are ignoring the Wii U.

There is one major flaw in your argument. Even though it is not exactly true what you pretty mush said is that Sony depends on third parties to the point that they have to cater their console to them which we know is not entirely true. Nintendo as we know could absolute 0 3rd party support and we know they would do well. Handhelds would sell cause of Pokemon alone, and on the console side, Zelda, Mario, Smash Bros. enough said.

I've also felt the same way about Nintendo, Shok. Their own worst enemy is themselves. They strive so hard to be different, to set themselves apart, that they hamstring themselves in completely unnecessary ways. It pains and angers me that a company I love so much, one that I grew up with and will always have a special place in my heart, makes the same mistakes again and again. Nintendo is known for innovation, but I think it's time for them to swallow their pride and emulate. Microsoft and Sony are where they are for a reason. Their consoles, while lacking the same level of power of first party IPs, continue to do well because of the hardware and features they bring to the table. If Nintendo would meet them head on in that arena, I can't fathom them doing anything but crushing the competition.

I find it so strange that game file size does not matter very much anymore. Probably the single saddest thing about modern video games: the extra memory doesn't necessarily make games longer, just slightly prettier. I'd rather have longer games that are actually interesting.

Superb video and I agree on all points. I love nintendo but you'd have to be blind to say they are fine right now. If nintendo make another slow selling console they are guna be in bother. I just cannot fathom why they havnt announced a next gen metroid,starfox fzero or even a new ip. Seriously I love my wiiu and think it has some brilliant games,but to most all they see wiiu having is a mario 2d and a mario 3d with the future having a mario kart and a beat em up featuring-yes you guessed it-mario! Ok this is definitely nintendo's fault for not promoting it at all, but they do have a new ip coming out called X (just X), and it's like a free roam giant robot game. And wonderful 101 already came out. Honestly I think nintendo should start promoting each game as if it was a mario game (except for the remakes cause we all know how that turned out)

All I want is a Nintendo console where I'm not FORCED to buy another console JUST for multiplats. I just want a Nintendo console where I can enjoy my favorite Nintendo games, and have basic features like cross game chat, a chat system that dos t require me to have to go into miiverse, and the frigin multiplats that EVERY other system is getting but the Wii U. I want Nintendo to focus on making the Wii U as easy to develop for for 3rd parties as possible. Because multiplats are important if Nintendo wants this to be an all-you-need core gamers console. They've already got amazing 1st party exclusives (the best imo) and they're really making things easy for indies, they need to make things as easy as possible to have next gen looking games on the Wii U. I think the main problem with the hardware constraints is because they are just video game developers. They don't have the experience with strong hardware like Microsoft(Computer software manufacturing) and Sony(Computer, Music, Pictures, etc Enterntainment).

I wouldn't really have any expectation for Nintendo to use the Balance Board or Wii Speak in their games, because they are peripherals, and they can't be sure people who buy the games will have them. I thought Nintendo did a good job of incorporating the Wii remote into nearly all of their games with the Wii. Where the problems start is with the Wii U.

And they treat their employees HORRIBLY. Abuse of human rights, they take advantages of their people's passion and exploit it. That is why they're the worst company in America, the finest product of Capitalism's Bitch. The gaming industry is broken to its core. Being an Indie is ridiculously hard anyway. Nintendo refuses to have any part in that. They wont even fire their own employees.(Though their employees at their main office do work in a windowless building ._. ) See what happens when the industry chases that mobile dollar? You get people complaining about buying games for 9$ They need to fix their online structure for sure, but this focus on online has lead us to the point where are consoles are so damn online reliant they might as well be always online. There are a shitload of features missing or locked online (like with trophies on the PS4) Hell the PS4, like the WiiU doesnt even have features the PS3 has you know. The consoles arent like steam, we have no assurance for our games. They're stuck to accounts that are stuck to the internet. Shit Nintendo already has our purchases tracked, Im pretty sure they already have some wonky account/hardware hybrid system going on in the background . So what does that say man? It means we're getting screwed over in the long run and we let it happen. Seriously we're going full speed ahead with this internet thing as a society. But the truth is, we're going to hit walls, and more limitations. We're quick to pour our money into this stuff. But its going to cause problems.One way or another. And these will be relevant and serious problems sooner than you think. This cloud gaming bullshit is not going to be fully realized either. We got problems that need solving. This industry is DEFINETLY not thinking in the long term, from what I've observed, their plans to be "future proof" are no where near sound. Its a problem. And they think removing hardware from the equation because they exercise a loss leader strategy is a good idea. (Mind you this is NIntendo's first time they did that, with the WiiU) Look at Sony and Nintendo. Who's debt free? Nintendo. Who's got more money in the bank as a whole? Nintendo.All Nintendo does is games man, they're the one's who push software, that leads to them pushing their hardware. Outside of the few who bring true innovations in the PC space who do you see innovating with the consoles? Its always Nintendo. The investors may like fact that Sony is more "westernized" and are easier to sway and the fact that their stocks have more highs and lows but that doesnt mean they're business is sound. (We'll see how Kaz Hirai proves his mettle.) Why do they back Sony? Because Sony is easy for them to control, easy for them to manipulate. Its that simple. Dont believe me? Go back to May 22nd of this year and watch Microsoft's DRM fiasco unfold. Watch Sony come in and smash their nuts in. Gamers can change this. But they dont. Because in the end they're fine with it and they ENABLE it.Because it doesnt affect them. Hell as long as they can get a game on the cheap they dont give a shit what anyone else is up to. The third parties wanted that DRM, EA wanted to control Nintendo's online platform, much like Sony tried to with their disc's relationship. NIntendo told em to get outta there with that shit. Then Lucas Arts was shut down and THQ got ripped apart. THAT is why Nintendo's Triple AAA third party support situation looks so dire right now, Because the base that was there, was cut in two and they weren't ready so they relaxed their marketing push. ( That for a system pushing the core, the launch ads screamed the opposite >_>, trying to get the Wii people to come aboard without the software being there yet was a dumb idea) If you want to count on someone to make money in the long run, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone as adroit as Nintendo when it comes to that. Some publishers dont even think they have what it takes to be able to make money on Nintendo's platform and search for every excuse in the book, they can find. Nintendo doesnt need to be buttering up places like IGN. They should talk to the true enthusiasts. Fuck the mainstream game media. They're run by god damn entertainment companies. Just there to entertain you with "news" The mainstream "games journalism" arena isnt here for the consumer. They're to protect the industry. They are not real journalists. They're people who tell you stories, and the better stories they tell the higher they go in rank. And get cool shit in the process. If Nintendo wants to succeed with the WiiU they have only one task. To revitalize Japan. If they can do that, and they meet their own standards and their online services are acceptable (by my standards) they'll be golden. Dude it kinda is the truth. Just look at gaming since Nintendo came into the gaming industry. Look at Shigeru Miyamoto's quotes. He disliked Donkey Kong country because the Graphics were good (not exactly that black and white but you get the point). Sakuria does not want to make Smash as competitive as Melee was due to his own personal ideal for the franchise. Don't get me started on how Capcom possibly got to the position they are in, *cough* where's Mega-Man *cough*. In Smash bros. Nintendo had to step in to get us Mega-Man.

LaerHeiSeiRyuu Mega-Man games don't cost much money to make. They could have made a profit selling a little less than a million. Also isn't the reason they are in this mess because all the games they were trying to milk got stale and cost more money than they made. Mega-Man Legends probably would have done well. I am almost positive. WIth 3ds sales what they are now they could release it now and make bank but they won't.

I used to be a big fan, but jumped to sony just because of all the support they get from third parties. I hope, Nintendo learns to help them make more games. I also like to see them to be more open to making some more variety with their games. I'm sick of playing Mario 64 HD 3d after playing on their consoles. Spend more time with new games, that will give me the experience Mario 64 was the first time.
