This is somewhat of a repost from twitter @ggcncobtsbp I'll say this; i agree that my videos have become more soulless bc I am rushing to complete them. But my main goal is to be a gateway into the world of fs. Be that friend that you don't have (and i don't have) where you can turn to to talk skating. So if i achieved that for anyone I am happy ♥. Thank you to anyone sending me kind words & I promise I will try to be more informed in my future videos.

Kao Miura picked the music himself 😔✋ It’s the Attack on Titan soundtrack and the costume is also what they wear in the show. He’s stated before that he worked with the choreographer to blend his fav show with his skating, and that he tries to imagine the characters from the show while he skates. It’ll grow on you

I think it is in general important to know the story behind every performance (if there is one) bc it gives you a completely different outlook on the program. Same as yulia lipnitskaya skate at the Olympics wouldn’t be that impressive if people didn’t know that it was based on that movie. I know Schindler’s list very well but my cousin for example asked me why she was wearing that ugly red dress 😂🤷‍♀️ when you know what’s going on it gives you a completely different impression

Kao's free music was from Attack on Titan soundtrack. A hugely popular anime that ended recently. His costume was dressed as a scout from the show. I do agree it wasn't fully vibing for me but maybe he was a big fan of the show and wanted to show it some love. It is cool music if you get into it trust me. :3

Honestly, it seems like Kevin is going through some struggles with his mental health that are showing in his skating. In the k&c at French nationals, he was in tears… saying that every day in general is hard for him, that he is afraid that his career has passed him. Mental health is not discussed nearly as much as should be, especially in sports and especially amongst men.

Shoma's NHK skate apparently all his quads were called underrotated, to his and his coaches' confusion
@carolinea6769
@carolinea6769 5 ай бұрын
Okay so I just rewatched Yuma and Shoma's NHK free skates and, I'm sorry but the tech panel was too harsh on Shoma. They called every single one of his quads q when in reality, both of his quad toes were perfectly fine! I even put it at .25 speed, and the 4T-3T in particular was squeaky clean! The tech panel just made those calls up! Rewatch it if you don't believe me. Like I can see the first two getting called q if the judges are being super strict and calling it based on when the toepick hits the ice rather than when the blade bears the skater's weight. By that standard, sure the first two quads were borderline q. But idk, I thought the judges were supposed to make UR calls when it's noticable in real time, as in, you can see the blade pivot on the ice. Regardless, one less q call would have earned Shoma the gold, so the tech panel really did the most to help ensure Yuma qualified for the final. Also, the tech panel may have been checking like hawks for Shoma's URs, but they didn't call Yuma's Lutz edge which should have received an unclear edge (!) call. So... they were selectively strict imo. As are the people who harp on Shoma's technical flaws but don't have that same energy for other skaters.... Has Shoma had uncalled URs in the past? Sure, as have most skaters if we're being honest. But his jumps at NHK were not noticeably UR, and certainly not all of them deserved q calls. Honestly, I genuinely do not care about the nitty gritty technicalities, that's not why I watch the sport. But the tech brigade that's like "finally shoma's urs were called at nhk"... it's just like, did you actually watch the skate in question? So I decided to take it upon myself to actually look at the jumps since the people who claim to care so much about being tech sticklers clearly did not 💀
@christinethorp3684
@christinethorp3684 5 ай бұрын
Yes! I went back and watched all Shoma's jumps in slo mo, too, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. The fact that ALL those quads received positive GOEs in real time shows that the tech caller went in afterwards with a "gotcha" attitude and wiped them out, basically. It was the most blatant politically motivated result I've ever seen; just disgusting! I don't know how an investigation wasn't called. That tech caller should be banned from future competitions!

Yuma didn't need to win to qualify, he would have only needed 2nd and to win the total score tiebreaker against Shun. He could do that fine bar complete disaster, in which case there would have been no saving him anyway. I'm not saying they weren't harsh on Shoma's underrotations (it was a harshly judged competition on rotations overall) but implying they were harsh on Shoma solely to get Yuma into the final doesn't seem plausible. It would make no sense as a tactic, anyway, as Yuma's scoring ceiling is lower than Shoma's and he scored lower at his first GP assignment than Shoma did. Why would they be dying to get him into the final at Shoma's expense?
@carolinea6769
@carolinea6769 5 ай бұрын
@@aimee3845 you're totally correct that Yuma didn't need to win in order to qualify for the final. As far as the panel's motivations are concerned, I can only speculate. Whatever their reasoning, it's clear that their calls or lack thereof benefited Yuma at the expense of Shoma because the competition can only have one winner. Shoma already had a silver from his first assignment whereas Yuma had a bronze. By giving Yuma the gold and Shoma silver, that's a safe way to ensure that they both qualify whereas if it was reversed, as you pointed out, there was a possibility, albeit unlikely, of Yuma losing the tiebreaker. To me that seems like a plausible reason to score Yuma favorably and Shoma unfavorably-not necessarily to prevent Shoma from qualifying but to ensure that they both do. Otherwise, I'm left just as baffled as you as to how this scoring outcome took place. You're right, Yuma had a lower tech ceiling, and yet he still won. Why?Your guess is as good as mine.
@aimee3845
@aimee3845 5 ай бұрын
@@carolinea6769 if the unlikely event occured where Yuma lost the tiebreaker, his score would have dropped lower than anything they could feasibly drop Shoma's to after he'd skated, so it's not a scenario they could really defend against anyway. I think the tech panel had a point to make, but I don't think it was getting Yuma in to the final. As to how he won, Yuma deserved his score even if it's thought Shoma deserved more. His skating quality is second to none and he deserves his goe
@carolinea6769
@carolinea6769 5 ай бұрын
@@aimee3845 I see what you're saying, that Yuma was basically going to sink or swim regardless of how Shoma was scored. I get that, and I don't disagree. But I still think it's possible that the judges may have wanted Yuma to win over Shoma so that he neatly qualified for the final without even having to worry about tie-breaker scenarios. It's not logical, because Yuma would have qualified regardless, but it's a much tidier way to have both Yuma and Shoma qualifying by placing them 1-2 in that order. Since Shoma skated before Yuma, the technical panel dinging all of his quads opened the door for Yuma to take the victory, which he narrowly did. It's just my speculation. And I agree that, apart from the 3Lz, Yuma deserves his GOES even though I feel that Shoma was scored too harshly. You don't have to agree with my speculations, that's fine. But this whole situation is puzzling me, so I am curious what point you thought the tech panel was trying to make.

Petrosian cannot surpass Jia Shin, Ami Nakai or Kaori Sakamoto with only triples... She needs her quads because she doesn’t have very good skating skills and her jumps are actually weak. Akateva’s jumps are stronger but she got a stress fracture in the same leg for second time, I don’t think she will be able to return. There is also another Eteri girl named Daria Sadkova, she will be age-eligible for the Olympics but she is very inconsistent and rarely lands her 4T cleanly. Zhilina and Muravieva are much stronger, but they would never be chosen over an Eteri girl

@@sirena3470 This is ridiculous. Adeliia with just triples can beat them all. While you're thinking about Adeliia losing quads why don't you pray that Jia Shin doesn't end up like Haein Lee, Young You, and Yelim Kim by the time she also hits puberty at 17/18. Losing rotations on triples and popping all her triples and out of stamina like them barely at 20. Most Koreans lose their triple jumps by 17 while the Russians lose quads at 18 but keep their triples. Who's really losing here? Zhilina? Seriously? She is weak at consistency despite having the best jumps in the world. She is the most inconsistent russian skater with ultra-c other than lame Maya Khromik which is why she can't be "chosen". Alina Gorbecheva from a no name coach will be "Chosen" before her. Tell the girl to get stronger mentally because she's not delivering enough for anyone to back her. Alina G from a no name coach beat Zhilina with just 1 quad. That's how weak Zhilina is. Muravieva's jump content isn't good enough this season. She was good last season, but this season she's fallen mentally ill in terms of ultra-c and falls on all 3A attempts in competition. Her mental health is not good and is in the garbage this season she would easily lose to little Kaori. I do 100% believe Kaori would beat Muravieva with her current mental state.

The IOC needs new committee members. They never sanctioned Russia as hard as how they kept the Haudenosaunee Lacrosse team from entering their event: an actual sport the First Nation people (THEY) actually created. I know it's not about Ice Skating, but IOC has no excuse not to disqualify entire nations. Especially RUSSIA. Their qualm for allowing Haudenosaunee to enter their team is because they identify as a separate nation (from North America), flying their own flag. Apoparently a bigger sin than doping and waging wars.

Yes, ioc has allowed russians to compete BUT each federation makes the decisions about whom they allow into their own competitions and it's in those competitions athletes can get country places to the olympics. So, if isu don't let russians compete in the 2025 worlds and that year's nebelhorn trophy (that has been the last chance to get a country place previously), it's no russian skaters in Milan 2026.

I've been one of his fans and enjoyer since 2017, but it's no denying that he's infamous for underrotating his jumps and got away with most calls. I'd say that his placement in the Oly 2018 and 2022 should be down 1 spot because of the uncalled URs. So I think it's a bit overreaction from Stephane to call it a "scandal" from 1 competition where maybe 2 q calls are too harsh. Also not too mention that "4F" technique he keeps on doing over the years racking on points. I like his PCS sides but I would not defend his jumps.

I will never forget how Jun was robbed of Worlds gold. He's used to getting his horrible jump tech uncalled and this time too he thought he could get away with it. It's not a scandal. Everyone in the figure skating fandom who has eyes and is not biased to him can see his flaws.

@@HannahhRalte shoma has many fans too who will gladly overlook his uncalled UR when he’s winning/ on podium but when he’s apparently short by 2 pts to win, they will gladly click the replay button to confirm the protocol. I agree with you that WC2023 Jun should have won that cause in that comp, shoma was also getting away without calls.

Ummm . . . Stephane said some things he shouldn’t have. Shoma, after the first confusion of ‘what’s happening?’ said, “those are the rules and we have to follow the rules.” He acknowledged his under rotations, as he should, and said he would try his hardest to improve his jump quality by J Nats. He made a BIG point of complimenting Yuma, saying Yuma’s skating was great and he didn’t want anything to detract from Yuma’s performance. That’s rare in figure skating, or any competitive sport. Yuma’s dad said so too. Shoma is cool.

@@mariiie.B Every single quad jump of Shoma’s was called at NHK and given zero GOE. That’s why Yuma won, although I loved Yuma’s skate. So did Shoma, who raved about it after the competition. The regular judges scored his tech at 106, but the technical experts said every jump was under rotated. The craziest part of it was that all these outside people weighed in, like Johnny and Tara who said nothing was underrotated, and they weren’t even there! Other Japanese, like Tatsuki Machida, who was commentating, and Shizuoka Arakawa also complained about the tech judge’s rulings. It was totally crazy!

How was he disrespectful? Not defending him, just curious cause I don't follow japanese skaters at all. I feel like he comes across as confident, not necessarily arrogant. And a program needs to be acted out to some degree so as long as his demeanor while performing matches the music. I don't see how his points should suffer? Or is it about his demeanor off the ice? Again I don't know

it is very sad to see how the Olympic community uses Ukrainian pain and trauma for drama. there have already been cases of Ukrainians competing with Russians in other sports. Olga Harlan is a good example. there are no neutral Russian sportsmen, they are all trophies for Russian propaganda who will receive funding from the military, and by allowing Russians to return to big sports, you simply give the Russians the opportunity to fuel their nationalism, although now they have to go through moral torture because of the genocide that their country is doing for their money.

@@nataliapanchyshyn385They’re figure skaters, how are they supposed to stop their government? I think just not outright supporting (like the ones who wore Zs) it is what we can expect. It’s very hard to be a dissident in Russia and they depend on the government for their careers. The federation has to release them if they do want to change countries and they still have family there if they denounce it. I can’t understand how hard it is for Ukrainian athletes and we do know Russia uses sports as soft power so things get even messier.

Edit: Since this is already getting replies: I don’t want to support a skater who has made misogynistic comments (literally saying he strongly dislikes, even hates, women).
