I came here about ready to try to break it down, but I couldn't have described it better! For years, I hyped my daughter up about dance clubs, & how I couldn't wait for her to get out there once she was old enough. Unfortunately, she says that they're _nothing_ like it was back in my day. Wth happened?? How could something that good just not be a thing anymore?

German Woman here, 58 years old... OH! MY! GOOD! Whoohoo - this is by far one of my favorite songs of all time! I remember when my friends and I were at the disco and I lost track of them that night. I was standing there alone and lost on the dance floor when this song came on. I absolutely couldn't keep my feet still and started dancing around wildly... Suddenly a handsome, young black guy ran up to me and danced with me - just as crazy and wild as I was. Very quickly we had a huge circle of spectators around us, clapping enthusiastically... The DJ played the song 5 times in a row, the young guy and I were dancing alone the whole time and having the time of our lives! I went to this disco every weekend after that - but the DJ never played a song more than once again. And for a long, long time I kept looking for my fantastic dance partner, but unfortunately never saw him again... Too bad, I would have loved to tell him how great it was for me and how much fun I had with him!

My sons are 24 and 25, and I think I've messed them up with this song... Because to this day, the moment they hear the first note, they start wiggling like slinkies and do the weirdest and funniest dance moves while singing along just like when they were toddlers 😂😂😂 Same with Love Shack from the B-52s! LOL!

Yes, I was hitting the clubs when this came out and if you didn’t work up a sweat back then you weren’t dancing. Boogeying with the ladies in clubs in the 90s had me shift from only AC/DC, Metallica, and most grunge, to loving all types of music and bars, EVEN COUNTRY!! What?!?! Although this song got widespread play, Deee-Lite were definitely part of the underground 'Club Kid' sub-culture. Crazy clothes, all night warehouse parties, raves weren't mainstream yet, etc. So the mainstream culture of 1990 wasn't that interesting but the underground scene very much was. 1990-1995 was the last great gasp before everything got watered down, mainstream, and well ..... boring.

Nice to see someone else (besides me) that doesn’t just lump the entire decade into one thing. A decade is a long time and there’s generally a lot of differences between the beginning of a decade and the end of one. I’m glad you broke it down into 90-95 vs what followed. Same thing is 100% true with the 80’s wherein the early 80’s is a far different thing than the late 80’s. Lumping an entire decade under one moniker, like “the 90’s” or “the 80’s” just doesn’t make sense to me.

Everyone danced like Lady Miss Kier (the woman in the group) when this came on…she was a DJ, in New York, I believe, designed her own outfits. Going out to dance clubs in the 90’s was so much fun!…I mean, a lot of people were there trying to look cool, not smiling, just acting like they were “above it all.” And there there were the dancers…not to say that the dancers all had professional grade moves, but we DANCED. We danced hard and long and worked up a sweat and laughed and played off each other’s moves. I can’t imagine going to a club and not seeing people dance. I’m 54. I embarrass our children when any music is playing anywhere because that’s dance time, baby! The grocery store? Six Flags? A restaurant? The mall? When Dee-Lite came on? Groove is in the Heart? We. I'm a 50-year-old Gen-Xer, and to fully appreciate this 90s club hit, you have to know two things: First, the guy who does the rap section is Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Second, the bass player with the star-shaped sunglasses is bass legend Bootsy Collins, who started out playing for James Brown, before joining funk collective Parliament-Funkadelic. Also, though the song is from 1990, the visuals, everything from the background to Lady Miss Kier's outfits, are very 60's and 70's-inspired.

I loved how much you enjoyed this. The very late 80s to mid 90s underground party scene was incredible where I lived. Bizarre venues, mind-bending druqs, butt-shaking house, futuristic dnb and techno, cosplay-before-it-had-a-name... Holy crap I forgot how dope it was, I must be old because I miss those days

When I spin this track at the record shop where I work I can get people dancing in the shop! Yes, clubbing in the 90’s was the best time! We danced until we practically lost 5 lbs! SO MUCH FUN!!

In the 90's there was a throwback era to the 60's /70's, hence the psychedelic background and costumes

I feel like people were less self-conscious & less judgey back then. People would just get out there in the clubs & move however they were feeling it. And nobody thought anything of it. You just moved your body & had a good time. Club time was fun time. *Okay so drugs were also pretty rampant in the 90s so that may have been a factor. 😂

I grew up in NYC during the club era, which lasted from the 1970's until Giuliani got elected and started closing the clubs in the 2000's. We had a blast. There were big clubs, small clubs, theaters, houses, brownstones. You could go out at 2am and dance until noon. It was a special time. Not likely to happen again.
