Shonda Rhimes is inspirational. I am Indian and I had never imagined any western production would show Indian culture and Indian women in mainstream. Mindy Kalling's show always portrays India as an ugly backward world with little to no admirable trait. But Kudos to Shonda, she not only gave Indian women powerful roles, she made them desirable and admirable. Kate Sharma by far has been the strongest female character I have ever seen. An extremely selfless and headstrong woman who is overprotective for her family. She was in distress but she certainly was not a weak damsel. More so like Bella from Beauty and the Beast. I was so satisfied by the way she handled our culture- an extremely diverse culture in itself. She included everything- a little bit of North with "Sharma" and "didi", a little bit of south with "Appa" and a little bit of east with "Bon". And the best thing is, they cast dark skinned Indian beauties. For long in ancient scriptures Dark skin have been coveted and desired. The colonial world changed that mindset and made us feel ugly. Now times have finally changed, seeing dark skinned women rock the regency glamour. How the blues and yellows and lilacs all flatter us brown people... I am extremely at awe by how much the world loves and ships them. This is what have been long due. Shonda maybe of another race, but at heart she is the most visionary woman on the planet.

Times have finally changed? Really? so when and if you watch bollywood or watch indian newscasters and anchors on indian tv, do you see dark skin indian women playing coveted roles and reading the news? How much of a fuss do you make about this? Is it important to you? Do you expect to see female dark skin news anchors and screen and film actors or is anti-blackness in india completely off your radar?

That’s the power of universality in stories. As a Black woman with such love for story telling and empathy in our humanness I can easily place myself in characters regardless of race language and geography. I’m proud of Shonda for being able to show this. Having said that and having grown up in a segregated society I still struggle with the integration in the Bridgerton stories 🤷🏾‍♀️ For instance, if it’s fiction, why not make everybody Black? 🙈 But great show and bravo 👏🏾

Listen Shonda, the characters ethnicities are important to understand the dignity that royal families of the Moors, and other wealthy ones that were spared maintained and even attracted White European Royalty by heirs that did not care about the CASTE system and even thought about gaining power in marriage that was impermanent in many practices among royal families in order to procreate within a certain purity exchange for monastic majestic perpetuation.

...hmm, Julia Quinn didn't know "how" to include diverse characters in her story? That sounds inconceivable. Just include human beings and stories different from what is familiar to you/your reality. You can do that by interacting with or reading/watching stories/movies about people who are unlike yourself. Smdh.

More than half of the media you consume is fictional stories based on real life people and events. They are often where writers get a starting point. I went to a musical about a King’s 6 wives and in the playbill they all had a real life modern day people that they were modeled after.

There love uniting society was so stupid. The racial elements were so dumb. I don’t mind the inclusivity but I despised the anachronising og history especially when Charlotte was real and was par Moor but that wouldn’t have been identified as colonized Africans. The whole thing was really all over the place.
