I think this is what a lot of MBV emulators miss - there are actually strong songs under a lot of the Loveless tracks, shown by the fact they can be recognisably covered in completely different styles

I saw a video awhile ago breaking down loveless, and under the shoegaze they are basically just really strong catchy pop songs. It makes sense if you look at mbvs history, they started as a jangle pop band with a noisy edge, then basically just leaned harder into that edge

This cover is really clever, very fun. Highlights the lyrics too, I think. "When I look at you, I don't know what's real" is such a great lyric. It's over the top yet it so accurately conveys what it is to be completely messed-up on love--it's like the Beach Boys
