When you used to ride the Honda, you'd talk about how easily you'd make it thru these spots while the big heavy bikes struggled.

YES, it's definitely easier on the CRF300 Rally. I'm testing the limits of the BMW so that I'm prepared and confident when I take it into the outback and across the Simpson Desert next year. I still have the 300 and will be taking it out this weekend on a similar ride.
@cjeremie

@@ShonkyProductions you don't need the BMW for that. My crf300L did simpson, birdsville, oodnadatta,,,, plus plus..... I'm 46, 183cm tall and weigh 98kg. Pack light. Take extra fuel. I was solo and survived. Maybe the bmw with the extra tank/extra weight/higher fuel usage could be an issue.

@@cjeremie my CRF 300 Rally did the Simpson easy too. But the other 12 days on that outback trip weren't so comfortable on the 300 doing big kilometres each day.im interested to see how the BMW handles the same trip.

Great ride, taking the big 1200 is an effort but so good. I found that using a higher gear than you think is better for throttle control and let the big 1200 tractor up the hills.

Hey up! Beginning to wonder what had happened to the Rhinos Cousin, Envious of your playground, however due to health issues I am no longer able to do any serious off road, I miss the excitement and challenges, I use an oversized rear tyre on my GS for a little more tread spread, if you have a 150 rear change it to a 170, Mitas Enduro,..it's very annoying having to turn the ABS off every time you switch the ignition on but you are riding a very capable machine,... Thanks for the tip. I was actually testing a 140 rear tyre in that trip. To be fair, it was a little past it's use by date at the start of the ride. How did you find the handling with the wider rear tyre? I'm thinking about a wider rear tyre when I head into the desert next year.

Sorry bro should of mentioned that if you are going to play in the sand all day the Mitas Enduro XT or the E-10 would be more suitable, the Mitas Enduro fitted to my GS is a 50/50 road/dirt...Added Edit: The E-10 and XT are much better handling with more stability and traction.

Mitas E10, XT, Continental TKC which ever you choose to use for the Desert Crossing on the BM fit an oversize 170 to the rear and give it a trial run first, you will notice a huge difference.

That's an incredible place to ride.... you know with the conditions there & how drastically they can change due to rain, I'd imagine you could have a "unicorn" bike for different weather out there. I can't ride but a bigger pig pointed downhill for me would be one fast way to have the front end go out from under me. I'd almost trust a 300cc or smaller bike under these muddy conditions but we have the bike we have = we make them work. Cool place to ride, unlike any I've seen. peace & GB ALL

Happy New Year Shonky, just wondering how your doing with the CRF 300Rally, you haven’t posted about it in a while. I’m nearly about to order the Big Bore Kit Stage 4 and just want to get your feedback again, I suppose I need a bit of encouragement into doing the deed. Thanks

Happy New Year! My CRF300 Rally is still going strong. I will be doing some more adventure rides and videos with it soon. I still love the 301cc kit and Stage 4 tune for my style of riding and adventure riding. Depending or your intended purpose either Stage 3 or Stage 4 are great options. Stage 3 gives a stronger bottom/mid range and Stage 4 pushes the power higher in the rev range. I like Stage 4 because it gives be a better power spread when using the bike as an adventure bike as well as makes it better suited to highway riding when needed. Hope this helps, Sean

@ Thank you, I’m getting the Fantic 310 XEF, but it not a bike for the motorways, so I’m thinking like you, wanting more top end. Have you noticed any difference in Oil usage, do you think the service intervals will be the same with the Stage 4.
