I think a very important tip not mentioned was approaching with your putt in mind. Most people would prefer putting with the wind at their backs as opposed to a headwind or especially crosswind. Think ahead and when possible, throw your approach so that it lands to where you're getting a tailwind putt. Some more food for thought. We have to consider what a headwind is actually doing to the disc. A headwind makes the disc think it's being thrown at a faster velocity than usual. If you're throwing with a 50mph release velocity, but throwing into a 20mph headwind, the disc thinks it's being thrown 70mph, but without the added benefit of additional spin if you were to naturally throw the disc at 70mph. This is why discs flip violently in headwinds. The exact opposite is true for tailwinds. So with this in mind, you don't have to always go more overstable to fight headwinds. You can also choose a higher speed disc that isn't necessarily overstable and throw it smoothly, and the disc will have an easier time flying according to its numbers. And again, the opposite is true for tailwinds with choosing slower speed discs as opposed to less overstable discs.

Very true about the approaches! Approaching, trying to intentionally set yourself up for a tailwind putt is huge

Solid tips. I like the way you're thinking about fade against the wind. I've been thinking of that as the biggest adjustment. Knowing that the wind will mostly control the end of flight, which I can use to adjust my aim point.
@ApolloDiscGolf2 жыл бұрын
Yep! and it's a little more predictable when you are throwing with the disc fighting the wind rather than fading with the wind!

Fun course, very challenging in the wind. In the wind i always disc up or down accordingly. If I were to typically throw and mid, I would bump up to a fairway driver and throw smoother as you said and not overpower the mid. I agree with too much stability, I can throw Teebird3s about the same distance as a Firebird (low and hard) into a head with but with more control. Great tips!

I have been telling people. Your hot take is correct. I through hyzer flips in a head wind all day. Just got to give it more hyzer. I love throwing turnovers in a head wind too it flips the disc for me. But you do need to know your discs well to pull those shots off
@ApolloDiscGolf2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'm bold enough to intentionally throw a turnover in the wind yet! lol.. But yes! There are so many more lines you can throw when you go to other things other than the most OS disc you have.. it's not a bad thing if a disc turns a little in the wind...

i bought a teebird3 i was told it is more over stable then regular teebird but that thing would turn and burn unless i threw it so soft it would only go about 240ft like i need the teebird3 to go 300 with little skip into headwind so i now use the Thunderbird instead and seems to be doing trick for my 300 ft headwind shots

Yeah, the Teebird I have in this video is a pretty beefy Teebird! I really like the Teebird 3 stability! It's so good! Nice and stable, but still able to get it to go straight a good ways before finishing at the end.

There are times down here in Corpus where if something turns over at all, it's completely done. What would have been a 20-footer is now a 60 because the disc went left to right instead of the expected right to left.

@@ApolloDiscGolf yeah, a harp holding straight was the end of my trust, lol. Plus, I don't like the BT range of plastics. They beat in way too quick. Another tip that is missed out a lot in discussions is to bag and throw understable discs, why? Because on windy days you won't always get headwinds, you may get strong tailwinds and your OS discs won't cut it.

i cant seem to FOREHAND my mid-ranges into 20mph+ headwinds always turn and burn "backhand works ironically" even my over stable ones i end up having to disc up but then i get too much skip so i must be doing it wrong right but i throw so great forehand speaking with my mids into tailwinds ahh!?!
@ApolloDiscGolf Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have the opposite problem... I can give short forehands with mids and putters pretty clean on approach shots, but when I start forehanding drivers on longer shots is when it gets really shotty on the release 😂
