Along with picking your bird - take your time. If you have birds work in close like you should, make sure your draw is perfect and don't rush a shot. You have alot more time than you think when it's time to shoot

Great tip. I figured this out a while back myself. It's a great way to go hunting when you can't actually go hunting. It is amazing when you are watching a duck hunting video, focusing on one bird and following it all the way in, how often it is the one that gets shot first. Your mind's eye knows which one is presenting the best shot. Of course like Josh said if you are actually hunting with more than one dude you follow the bird that is on your side.

Excellent advice. Before I learned that I would blast away in the middle of the birds and couldn’t understand why no birds would fall. Since I’ve tried what you just talked about I’ve been able to hit multiple birds in one flight. Great thing to be aware of!

Good video Josh. Can you do one where you take several of your shots with shotkam and talk about the lead you take, why and how. Narrating the thought process of shots from different angles and considerations. This would really help and be appreciated by many. I watch all the guys in the Coop and I wish they would all do a shooting tip video breakdown from time to time.

Spot on advice! Focus so hard on your bird that burn a hole in it! Makes the first shot much easier and more productive!

This is explained perfectly. Now I know what they mean by picking out your bird. Thanks for dumbing it down to the root. Heading out tomorrow for some goose and to try this tip!

Great advice Josh! I've done my share of "flock" shooting and this strategy is exactly how to harvest more birds.

Great advice. My misses usually come from me rushing the shot. Tell us about that hat…looks like a ‘Goose Busters’ hat I got from an outfitter on the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay back in the early 80’s!!!

I believe the hat is based off of Rogers line of layout field blind.

Another tip, shoot birds based on blind position. i.e. if your on the left shoot the left side of the flock. Secondly if you start with the higher birds in the flock for first shot, the lower birds are still in range for 2nd or 3rd shot.

* That's important to always pick just one bird, but realize you must switch to another bird if the bird you have targeted moves out of your designated shooting area.

Absolutely fantastic tip on the subject at hand. I haven’t shot much lately training wise because of the lack of ammo. Well on the first hunt up in Alaska for brant, lessers and ducks with Bobby Guy and Preston that I won on a giveaway I used 13 rounds before getting my limit of 2. But later on it was much easier whether on the bank or in a layout boat to pick one bird. Even more important when you have a small limit of 2.

It's not always realistic to watch birds from that far out. Often times when we invite guests, we'd rather have them who arent calling to keep their head down. They can watch the person(s) calling to be able to tell where the birds are. Agreed once you raise up, it's important to pick a bird in your lane and squeeze away. Having everyone in a blind prairie dogging it will most of them time flare birds. Just another perspective on the topic.

Pick your bird, wait til the bird is at its easiest shot. (Close, and wings expanded, moving slow, and focuse) than aim small miss small baby. Follow through too!!
