It's actually pretty easy to create a multi-camera video - I typically use two iPhones plus a separate audio channel. Editing, including switching between cameras is straightforward in iMovie, and in this video I'll show you two methods to do it.

Kurt, great tutorial! Which version iMovie do you use? Using 10.1.6 - every time I get the urge to upgrade to more current, I read horror stories about how Apple has made it less intuitive, removed features. Thanks!
@KurtPapke
@KurtPapke 4 жыл бұрын
I use 10.1.14, which is the latest. Apple doesn't mess with the user interface nor the look and feel between major releases. You should feel confident upgrading to the latest version since you're already on v10.

Thanks for the video, I liked the method one, it flows well into iMove limitations and workflow, liked the tips for multi cam to detect (I prefer to use side by side than PiP preview, just a preference) interesting cuts. I think that if you have fixed multi cam then you could mix method 2 first to merge your shots and then use method one for B-Roll added content to give more movements to the filming. nice tutorial, have a nice day.

Thanks for posting this video! I found it very helpful. I have a question for you...I did a 2 camera shoot of myself playing the piano with an iPhone, an iPad and then for audio I recorded in stereo directly to my DAW. I then imported the wav (audio file) into iMovie, lined it up at the top of the piece using the clap method with the two videos from the iPhone & iPad. The piece I played was about 6 minutes long. Everything lined up perfectly at the beginning but after about a minute both of the videos "drifted" and no longer lined up with the audio. One of the two videos drifted more radically than the other! I checked to make sure the frame rates on both cameras were the same and they were so that wasn't the issue. Might you know why the videos won't stay locked to the audio track? Thanks for your help!

Hi Kurt! Thank you for the clear and easy to follow instructions. However, I have a problem. I cannot find the multicam editing function. I have two clips - from iPhone and from iPad. I want to cut easily and use parts from one of the clips in the other clip which is “the main”. How can I do this? Thank you ✨
@KurtPapke
@KurtPapke 3 ай бұрын
Unlike Final Cut, iMovie has no specific multicam functions. My video is all about how to do exactly what you are asking about. Just chose which clip is your "main", then overlay pieces of the other clip on top of it.
@InnerCompassZoriStefanova
@InnerCompassZoriStefanova 3 ай бұрын
@@KurtPapke thank you for your reply! I understand this. However, I do not understand how to overlay, how to put the second clip above the main clip. When I drag it, it just comes in front of the main one, not above it… I guess there is something I just miss out on…
