76 years old and every year it seems I have to crank my bow down a turn or two. Have gone from shooting 80 pounds when I was young to 50 pounds now that I'm old. Last three deer I shot with mechanicals i did not get one pass through. Ran off with most of the arrow hanging out of them. One good blood trail out of the three but all recovered. I think at 50 pounds a fixed blade is much better than a mechanical.

Informative video thanks. Love the camera turn actions 🤣. I myself move away from all mechanical broadheads after one time of the o-ring not giving and the blades never opened. I recovered the doe after about a 1000 yards (of course through the nastiest jaggers ever). I knew I hit her good like 18 yards away, clean pass through. When recovered the arrow then the blades where open, saw good blood. After my son and I sat there and our sandwiches and BSing a solid hour, lets go get her. Wasn't seeing good blood but knew I hit her good. Well we bumped her 2x and then just sat again for 2 hours (nap time). We finally found her dead. Well after getting her back to pole barn and hung, started rinsing her out and looked. Neither entrance and exit holes had blade slices. So clean pass through and not opening until hitting ground behind her UGH. Sorry for long story, but never again used mechanicals. Look forward to future content, Rock on.

I'm glad you persevered until you found her. It can be tough, but not giving up can pay big rewards. Modern mechanical mechanisms seem to be more consistent than the o ring style. I've been particularly impressed with the rage NC system and NAP's blade hold mechanisms.

What's with all the tiny broadheads? I don't know how you go about picking broadheads to end up with so many small ones but I bet that's not the same way you pick out sandwiches
@Chestthumperoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I don't need to over compensate. XD On a serious note, you don't have to have a 2 inch cut to kill an animal, 1" will do more than enough if you do your part. Also more compact broadheads react better in crosswinds because there is less surface area. Lastly, for the most part mechanicals don't stack up to fixed heads in the reliability category and the reality is more people are shooting mechanicals than really should be based on the stats of their setup. When I make recommendations I try to make them in a way that the majority of people would see great performance selecting that broadhead. The one glaring exception in this video is the rage 3 blade. Although it performed well in my testing, it is not a great choice for most everyone.

I tested the slick trick SS3 and the muzzy one, both machined from a single pice of steel, the montec is also. The blade angle is the same on all of them and is the reason they dont get sharp. Innovative outdoorsman fixed the issue with his 413 sharpener.

Rage, after shooting 3 doe, broadside with them, will never use another one, ever! Mechanicals, I will never use again; especially with long bows, recurve and other slow shooting bows, and do not use on big game. Why the broadhead is bad, loses a ton of energy upon contact. The ideal broadhead is a cut on impact fixed blade. G5 is one of the best on the market.
